  1. Hi

Does anyone have recent (past year or so) experience in obtaining a tourist visa to Canada by a Thai national. I would like my 48 year old Thai girlfriend to visit my home in Canada. She hands a house and a college aged son but no regular job. I am wondering what roadblocks might prevent her from getting a tourist visa and how to get around these.

Any info or suggestions are appreciated.

  2. Greetings from -13C and snowing (Canada)

    I need travel info help!

I am making a quick trip to Thailand in March and I would like to find a nice beach that is:

    - less than 6 hour drive from Lopburi (we will only have 3 days / 2 nights for this holiday)

    - as uncrowded as possible (impossible, I know, but perhaps less crowded than Pattaya)

    - has discount hotels/resorts rooms under 1000B per night (maybe 1500B?). In March I'd like aircon

    - does NOT have wild and crazy nightlife (i.e. laid back and quieter - more family oriented)

    Many thanks in advance

    Pete

  3. Thanks to everyone who replied.

I have sent out 3 emails and none bounced.smile.png

If it gets picked up, great. If not, then I guess it is not such an interesting idea. The story is about my return to Thailand after 20 years and my much thwarted but eventually successful search for a man I befriended on my first visit 35 years ago.

    Thanks again.

  4. Hi,

I have an idea for a TV program and I am trying to contact a TV program producer. I have tried Googling "Thai TV contact" and other searches but the only email address that I found (for Channel 7) got bounced. I can't seem to find an English version of their Webpage.

Not sure if channel 7 is best option - the idea is for a real life 1 hour Thai language drama.

I do not have a Facebook account so cannot follow up on those links.

    Any ideas?

    thanks in advance

    Pete

what do you think to get for 'your idea' as it doesn't sound new to me.

I don't want to "get" anything. Just an idea, and maybe not so interesting. IDK. But I'll never know if I don't follow it up. smile.png

  7. Hi,

Is there a chess club or restaurant where chess-nuts hang out? I am here on Samui for 2 months and would like to find interested other players. I am NOT a master level player (not even ever rated) but enjoy the game.

  8. You can have the best curriculum in the world, the most up to date technology in the classroom, an administration that is free of corruption and self service, and a completely inclusive assessment regime, but if you don't have hard-working dedicated teachers who put the students' best interest first, NOTHING WILL CHANGE. Teachers ARE the cornerstone of education.

  9. Hi Again,

Thanks to everyone for the great info and the link to the past forum which looked at a similar theme.

I should have been a bit more specific, though.

I will only have 2 days - this Saturday and Sunday - to look around and my main source of transportation will be a rented scooter. Therefore I will be limited to about 50 km radius. Lots of ideas were much further afield.

With that in mind, could I get a few suggestions for the top 8 - 10 must see/do things in and around Chiang Rai. Is there a visitors info center in town where I can get a map and directions?

Also, any suggestions on where to rent scooters for a day or 2? How much should I expect to pay?

    Thanks

  10. I found it!

Well, not quite. It would be nice to go for an early coffee (I am usually up by 5:30 latest) but I have discovered a place that serves coffee by 7:30 a.m..

It is a little bakery across from the Isuzu dealership just a little past the little Big C (on the way out of town) but on the opposite side of the road. The cappuccino is pretty good (decent foam) and the assortment of goodies to go with it are great. Along with the coffee comes a free pot of mint tea. A great deal for 40B!

The woman who runs it speaks very little English but is really friendly. Definitely worth checking out!

The BEST cappuccino that I have found in Lopburi is at the bus station near Sakaow. I think it is called "We Love Coffee" and the coffee and service there are fantastic!

The new little shop on a side road near Noom's Guesthouse also serves good coffee, but the place is usually busy and I often have to wait. No big deal. I just order my coffee and go for a foot massage across the street (great massage!). They will bring it to me there.

Probably the absolutely best coffee I've had in Thailand is Coffee Tom, but the shop is way up at the Army Air base north of town.

    Enjoy the Java!

  11. I find it strange that so many people posting here decry the horrible violence and then propose as a solution even greater violence.

This is a horrible thing to happen.

    Koh Toa murders were horrible.

But is any violence less horrible?

Justice - yes. Vigilante revenge - NO!

Remember that it is gun-toting Americans who have one of the highest (maybe THE highest) per-capita murder rates in the developed world. Are guns making their land safer???? Is downtown LA or Columbine classrooms safer than Udon?

  12. HI,

Is anyone in the Lopburi area interested in getting together now and then to play chess (western, not Thai chess). I am planning on making a trip out to Saraburi or Singburi sometime soon so if you live there and want to play contact me as well. I am in Lopburi until the end of December 2014. Contact me through email is probably easiest: <<<< E-mail removed, use PM function to contact >>>>

  13. Hi,

I will only be here until Wednesday Oct 29, but if anyone is interested in a friendly game of chess I will pack up my board and meet you somewhere. I am located in Nathon.

  14. Hi,

I am new to this forum so I am hoping this is an appropriate post.

My girlfriend and will be spending the month of August in Chiang Mai taking the CELTA course. We are looking for reasonably inexpensive but NOT a dive accommodation in Hang Dong

    International House Chiangmai

    131 Moo. 7,

    Tumbon Sanphakwan

    Amphur Hangdong

    Chiangmai 50230

I think this is about 1 km southeast of 108 and the southern Ring Road

Ideally we would like a separate little bungalow as we will be playing music (guitar and flute) and don't want to be bothering people in neighboring rooms.

Any suggestions? SO far I have come across 2 options - Teak House and Nugent Waterside. Any info on either of these two places would be appreciated.

    Pete
