Where does one obtain a certificate of residency in CM these days?
I heard that a new immigration building has opened near the airport.
Thanks.

I will do that TG,
I can never have too many documents when doing such applications.
Thanks for the advice.

Okay Ubon,
Vientiane.
That sounds good.
Thai police clearance and med check are not a problem.
Bankbook and anything else I can bring such as bank statement in case they ask for it..
Thanks to all for your sound advice.

S.
I plan to live off savings of 5 million that I will have in my Thai bank account.
No pension. No other source of income.

Hi ubonjoe,
I will have no such proof apart from savings.

Hi ubonjoe,
Are you referring to the now defunct affidavit declaring proof of pension payments from my home country?
I would not be using such a letter as I will have 800 seasoned in a Thai bank account.
Actually, I am only 57 which is now considered too young to retire in Australia.

Thanks ubonjoe,
How do I show proof I am retired?
Thanks,
S.

I see,
Thanks to ubonjoe and others for the info,
I need to apply for the non immigrant visa first which I will do at a Thai consulate outside Thailand thus avoiding
the foreign remittance requirements.
I will have 800 already sitting in my Thai bank account ready for changing said visa over to an extension based on retirement in Thailand.
So, what are the requirements for applying for a non immigrant visa outside of Thailand?
Can anyone recommend a suitable Thai consulate within the SE Asian/NE Asian region to apply?
Would I be better applying for the non immigrant visa back in Aus?
I am an Australian passport holder.
Sorry for all the questions..Newbie
Regards,
S.

I see J,
This is where my ignorance on the topic comes in.
I do have a Thai bank account and can deposit the 800 thousand in there after I have brought it into the country.
From my understanding of what you have said, this money must show as foreign remittance coming into that Thai account. Thus no other proof can be used.
Correct?

Thanks for that J,
How about bringing the cash in, declaring it at the airport and using the declaration as proof of foreign remittance?
There must be another way other than as you have suggested...
Hope,
S.

Hi All,
Ah, yes..Retirement visa requirement blues. Will it ever end?
Can I withdraw money in Thailand using ATMs and use the ATM receipts as proof of foreign remittance
in order to apply for a retirement visa?
Thanks in advance,
S.

Sad indeed.
Just trying to help the wife out with some of the dirty work..
Oh well, time to hang up my rubber gloves I guess.
No heartbreak over that-ha ha!
Thanks for the responses!

Hi all,
My wife has recently opened a small fast food franchise.
It is, for the most part, a one person operation.
However, I do like to pop in and help with things such as cleaning.
I never work at the counter as a cashier.
I am on a tourist visa.
Am I asking for trouble by helping?
S.

Yeah, that's what I figured.
Thanks Ubonjoe.

I heard a rumor that the Thai embassy in Vientiane is no longer issuing double entry tourist visas.
Anyone else heard about it?

Hi,
Is the border crossing at Mae Sai open for regular business over the New Year?
I plan to cross over on Jan 3rd in order to utilize my second entry.
Thanks in advance.
