I just did this.  They DO move it now.

@ OP, you should also be able to get it done at immigration.  But they will do it at borders/airport.

I thought (as the gentleman above thought) that there would be no need to move it...but the officers stopped me at the window and had me get it moved before letting me proceed to leave the country.

This took roughly a half an hour.  Of course, the time it takes is gonna vary by where you are and how busy they are...so just plan for that time suck.

It was a 500 baht fee btw, as well.

*they asked me for letter from embassy but embassy no longer issues them and immigration is supposed to know this.  I did have a letter on hand because I got my new PP 2 days after the "no letter" rule and I begged since I knew there was a big chance of it coming up at the border.

Also, were you here on a visa at the time, or just a 30-day visa exempt?

They may also transfer your entry stamp .

Realize you have a 30 day extension however how did you enter Thailand. Visa exempt ?

At some point in future can you update your thread with exactly what was done by IO at international departure.

Yeah, I got a thirty-day visa exempt when I came into Thailand last time, then got the extension.

And sure, I will update this thread when this is all finished.

Thanks. So, did you have to go through this at a time of normal working hours? My flight is at 8 am so I am wondering if this has to be done, must it be done during a specific time (9 am to 4 pm for instance)? Or is this service available at the airport 24 hours per day?

Hat Yai immigration would not do this for me. Asked them twice.

I got a new passport last April and returned to the US in May. The immigration official is correct. The stamp from your old passport will suffice as to your entry, and then all you need is your departure stamp.

Thanks. So you did not need to fill out and use that form (can be found here: https://bangkok.immigration.go.th/wp-content/uploads/2021/08/Transfer-Stamp-to-New-Passport-Form.pdf) to transfer the stamp from your old passport to your new one?  All you had to do was take both your old and new passport with you and pass through immigration at the airport as one normally would?

  5. I just received a new passport and went to Hat Yai immigration to have my stamp (not a visa, just a stamp) from my old passport transferred to my new one, but they told me that I don't do this there, that it will be taken care of by immigration when I fly out from Bangkok in two days. I just have to bring both my old and new passports, the official said. He said he was completely sure that this was correct even though my embassy says to go to the local immigration office to do this. I am a bit confused and flying from Hat Yai to Bangkok tomorrow night, then Bangkok to the US in the early morning of the 8th, so just figured I'd check what folks think here. Thanks.

  6. Been using tourist visas for several years (have plans to marry my longtime girlfriend sometime next year). Usually go back home once a year and get a 6-month visa, then get another visa in the region, and then go back home again and repeat the process. Haven't been home in over a year, largely because funds are tight these days. Just got a tourist visa in Vientiane 2 and a half months ago, followed by an extension. Considering applying for another tourist visa in the region but obviously I'm concerned if I'll be able to get one. I was asked to provide no additional details the last time I applied in Vientiane but by reading some threads here it looks like they are becoming more strict. Any opinions would be appreciated.

  7. Hello all - I'm thinking about trying to go to either Penang or Vientiane for a tourist visa. However, I just had two recent overstays -- the first one was one day (because of an emergency), the second one I just forgot about my visa situation and was for 3 days (please spare me the criticism). I had had a 6-month tourist visa from my home country; last year I also got a tourist visa in Vientiane. Should I be able to get a tourist visa? I'll be going back to my home country for about 6 weeks in June and was even planning on booking before I try and get a tourist visa since I've read on these forums that it is often a requirement to show proof of a flight back home. Thanks.

  8. After looking over my current passport, I realized that I only have one tourist visa from Vientiane (back in January 2015). Before that I had two from Penang. However, Vientiane gave me the red stamp warning that I could be rejected another tourist visa. Since then I have only gotten METVs. With that warning from 3 years ago, could I have a problem getting one in Vientiane? Thanks.

  9. I was asked to supply a copy of my flight to get a METV. However, I have not been able to contact the consulate I applied at (via mail), so I'm wondering if I need to supply a ticket departing Thailand. I have a flight booked to return back to Thailand for the end of this month. Now I'm thinking about booking a ticket departing Thailand for May. Any idea if this is what the consulate wants?

  10. A friend of mine recently overstayed his tourist visa by 27 days. He had no problems coming back in to Thailand from Pedang Besar, Songkhla to start the second tourist visa (he got a double-entry in Vientiane), and now he plans on applying for an extension in Hat Yai. He's had several tourist visas over the past few years, in addition to one or two non-immigrant B visas from previous teaching jobs. Will the extension be a problem? Also, could he have problems getting another tourist visa in the region because of the overstay? Thanks.

  11. My current tourist visa (yes, I have had many) is about to expire on the 23rd. I plan on applying for an extension tomorrow, but on the 26th I'm flying to Malaysia and then to Japan, where I'll be traveling for 8 days, then back to Malaysia, and then will fly from KL to Bangkok on Feb 5. I have already purchased a roundtrip ticket from BKk to the US and back to Thailand, which I'll be doing beginning March 4. However, I'm still worried that I could have troubles at immigration when I fly back into Don Muang on Feb 5. I suppose I could apply for a re-entry permit, but because I'm not leaving Thailand again until March 4, I'm thinking that I'll try and just get a 30-day stamp when I fly in. Will I likely be allowed 30-day stamp at Don Muang?

  12. I had a red stamp on my last tourist visa (from Vientiane, not Penang) that says I could be refused another tourist visa.

Anyway, I've already purchased my flight back to the US, and tomorrow evening I'm flying from Penang to BKK. I kind of need to get to BKK anyway, so I didn't even bother trying to apply for a tourist visa with another agent. I didn't go to the Thai consulate here in Penang either.

Thanks everyone for your help and advice.
