  1. Hi all,

I will be in Bkk very soon after a year away and was wondering what the latest situation with regards to foreigners being stopped and searched by the local police is.

I know at one time it was quite prevalent, but what's it like now?

Haven't heard much about it lately- has it mainly stopped?

In near enough 20 years I've not been stopped at all. I usually stay lower end of Sukhumvit.

Any experiences of this would be interesting to hear!

  2. I think Bully's just past soi 4 is worth a mention.

Absurdly overpriced, IMO. I'd love to support the American owner but the prices are out of bounds. In addition, I detest pubs that advertise a price...and then you find out it's not inclusive of 10% service charge and 7% VAT. That's crap and I frequent places that engage in that business practice just once. After that, never again.

    Everything is relative and subjective.

I personally don't mind paying a bit more if I'm happy with the quality of the food, drink and service.

As an alternative, there's always Cheap Charlie's on soi 11!

  3. Come all the way to Thailand to drink in pubs from back home?

Sunday roasts. Cooked breakfast. Sportsbars. Expat Bars. Oh what fun!

Parking Toy at Lad Prao Way.

    Brick Bar at Kowsarn.

    Saxaphone at Anusawari.

    Beer Garden at On Nut.

    Coco Walk at Ractathewi BTS.

You have to do something in between temple tours, floating markets and shopping!

  4. Apart from the obvious attractions of the go go bars - which is another topic completely!, I was wondering which are your favourite bars/pubs?

High on my list would be The Kiwi, on Soi 8. Great service, good food- excellent sunday pork roast! and a very good breakfast.

Happy hour on all day- 99 baht for a pint of Tiger or Heineken.

  5. I've been a couple of times since the opening. The first time, the girl wanted to see the TV app on my phone and in fact took the phone to the cashier to check! She then came back (thankfully with the phone!) with a revised bill deducting 15%.

The second time, I just mentioned the discount (to a different girl), and she deducted 15% with no problem.
