I will be in Bkk very soon after a year away and was wondering what the latest situation with regards to foreigners being stopped and searched by the local police is.

I know at one time it was quite prevalent, but what's it like now?

Haven't heard much about it lately- has it mainly stopped?

In near enough 20 years I've not been stopped at all. I usually stay lower end of Sukhumvit.

Any experiences of this would be interesting to hear!

Would it be possible for her to enter Thailand on the expired Thai passport and then get it renewed whilst she's there?

She would be staying for about 3 months.

Basically, would they let her in without any hassle?

Absurdly overpriced, IMO. I'd love to support the American owner but the prices are out of bounds. In addition, I detest pubs that advertise a price...and then you find out it's not inclusive of 10% service charge and 7% VAT. That's crap and I frequent places that engage in that business practice just once. After that, never again.

Everything is relative and subjective.

I personally don't mind paying a bit more if I'm happy with the quality of the food, drink and service.

As an alternative, there's always Cheap Charlie's on soi 11!

The Game on soi 9 - must be the best location on sukhumvit to drink and watch people!

The Black Swan- although I've found the morning staff to be a bit miserable and not really friendly.

Apart from the obvious attractions of the go go bars - which is another topic completely!, I was wondering which are your favourite bars/pubs?

High on my list would be The Kiwi, on Soi 8. Great service, good food- excellent sunday pork roast! and a very good breakfast.

Happy hour on all day- 99 baht for a pint of Tiger or Heineken.

I've been a couple of times since the opening. The first time, the girl wanted to see the TV app on my phone and in fact took the phone to the cashier to check! She then came back (thankfully with the phone!) with a revised bill deducting 15%.

The second time, I just mentioned the discount (to a different girl), and she deducted 15% with no problem.

I can highly recommend The Kiwi Bar on soi 8
