  1. Thanks for the response. I'll have to look up Crystal Design Center... Never heard of it. I actually tried to place an order with Amazon last night and almost every item had an alert that said CAN NOT SHIP TO THIS LOCATION... What's up with that? I'm going to have a friend back in the states take all my items and ship them to BKK for me. Some things I just can't find out here.

I finally found some good coffee now I want a cheap, portable coffee maker and grinder!

don't by anything electrical,i have had to bung 2 coffee machines in the last 5yrs.nearly 4,000bht.

now I am using a nice small French press bought in the mall for 360bht.

coffee already ground from duang dee hill tribe,if you buy 5kilo's it will be sent to you.

Thanks for the reply. Funny I went to my local foodland and I saw a small French press that costs exactly 360 baht... Maybe we are speaking of the same one? The one I saw looked like cheap crap that would break apart in a week. I will continue my search. Maybe take a ride to the Crystal Design Center mentioned in the earlier post. I love the idea of the aeropress since I move every few months so I can just toss it in my bag and hit the road. I don't want some big machine.

In regards to coffee, I have 20 kilos of fresh roasted beans coming from Laos. Should be here Wednesday. I don't want to promote my business here but PM me if you want more info. How much do you pay for the hill tribe stuff? Also, have you considered grinding your own beans? Once you try it there's no turning back.

I have 2 french presses - a 2-cup and a 4-cup - they are both stainless steel bought from isetan and Paragon bangkok - they are insulated double walled steel - can't break and they are marvellous at keeping the coffee hot whilst brewing (5 mins) unlike the glass ones. Not cheap at about 1500 for the big and 1200 for the small but i wouldn't do without them. I use a severin burr coffee grinder from paragon - can't remember the price but not cheap but was cheap for an electic burr grinder. very good for course grinding for my french press but not good for fine grind for expresso machine. I use Aroma 100% Arabica and it is great for my parameters. the thing about french presses is that you can vary the strngth and volume - not easy with an expresso machine and you can also take it on holiday. Woukldn't do without it. there is a wonderful shop in JJ market BKK that specialises only in coffee apparatus - there is an electric Italian style percolator that I have my eye on but no need with my french press. You can also buy the hand grinders same as as you want too at 1200 baht.

Awesome, thanks for the heads up on JJ Market. I knew there MUST be places that sell coffee gear around BKK but spending hours wondering around malls and markets is not my idea of fun. I found a really nice French press for 1500 baht at my local coffee shop. Quality glass, good fit and finish. Those 300 baht plastic ones look like complete trash that will snap apart in one month and I'd end up spending the 1,500 after that... The only thing I can't find is the grinder! I guess everyone buys their coffee ground here. I just want a small manual burr grinder. I'll check out jj market this weekend. It's been a while since I've been out that way. Take care. Enjoy your coffee!

  2. A few days ago I used a Krungsri ATM machine and attempted to withdraw 10,000b. It took a long time then finally read an error message about the transaction timed out and spit out my card... Did not spit out the cash or receipt. I left the machine and checked my account later seeing I was down 10,000 baht. What the hell happened there? I'm thinking the machine spit out the cash after I walked away? Either way it's gone from my balance and didn't make it into my wallet.

I don't know what do about this so I have done nothing yet... If I'm going to blow 10,000 I can think of many better ways then leaving it hanging out of an ATM machine and walking away.

Man, you should have called the help line phone number, which is usually attached to the machines. Go back and look for it. It's not always front and centre. Give them the details and ask for the refund, They should have found an extra 10,000 baht one night after the machine was resupplied. BTW, if you ever seen the techs who open the ATMs, they remove and fit a completely locked unit and take it back to the bank's offices. There should be some evidence of machine trouble.

Thanks. I will do that now it's on my street. I saw a website and I was going to try to contact them online and give them the location... I'm not sure if the cash never came out or if it spit out 10,000 after I walked away? I figured I just bought the local taxi gang there a case of whiskey. I'll go check for the number now.

  4. I find it amusing how you go to any major shopping centre and there is a metal detector at the entrance, while people stream through it, the machine is going bananas beeping at just about everyone and the security just sit there day dreaming

Yes that is funny... I always carry some type of bag and I always set the metal detector off and just keep walking... Most people walking into MBK carry some type of bag and that machine just keeps beeping. I never see anyone stopped. The funniest part is the guard with his flashlight on using it to wave people through. Seems like a waste of flashlight batteries among other things.

  7. Greetings,

I'd like to make my own coffee at home. I like the looks of the aeropress. Anyone use one here? I'm off to hunt at the local malls. If that fails I will try ordering on Amazon... Which is another topic entirely but I hear it's fairly reliable shipping to LOS.

What do you use to make coffee? I'd also like a Hario grinder. Both cost 1,500 baht total on Amazon. Lord knows what is will cost to ship.

Any help would be greatly appreciated. I'll make you a cup. Cheers! biggrin.png
