  1. Not just his travel costs, his bar costs and entertainment costs as well.

The only 2 farang style places I know of out that way are the Blue Parrot up on Ramkhamhaeng 164? and another place over by Seacon Square.

Dont know why he is getting a taxi to On Nut, he lives close to Pra ram 9, just get on that and head for Sukhumvit, turn left at Asoke and he is about 5 minutes from Soi Cowboy, taxi fare should be about the same.

Dont understand why someone who go to a farang ghetto and pay rip off prices when there are plenty of Thai style places out in the area the OP mentions.

He wont be called a hansum man, but then again he wont hear such bar girl talk as ting tong, cheap charlie or kee niaow.

There is a beer garden outside the Mall Bang Kapi right now, just round the corner from the OP.

I thank you for your post, just to answer some of your questions, we have just moved to here and i do not really know much about the place, i do know the Nana area, so that is where i headed to the one time i did go out, not so sure on the route so i took the one i knew for sure, hence Onnut BTS.

The Thai places you talk of, i am sure i could walk out the gate here and find one but pretty sure i could not communicate with anyone there so i am trying to find out if there are any places around here that i could find other like minded people to talk to.

Would i find farang people to talk to at the Mall at Bang Kapi??? i would seriously head there in the next 30 minutes if you were to say yes(please dont just say yes for me to look stupid).

Cheers for your info, off to look up this blue parrot now.

  2. Oh well, looks like i will hit Sukhumvit again, the problem is that is is about 130 baht to onnut, followed by BTS to Nana, and on the way home i get lost.

In your first post you talked about drinking in the SK 77 area, the second post talks about drinking in the Nana area.

As I remember it Soi Nana is SK 4, thats a whole world of difference to SK 77. I reckon your travel costs will be more than halved if you continue to frequent SK 77.

Travel costs are not the problem, its only 30 baht from Onnut to Nana, time and distance are the issues, probably 30 minutes to Onnut and only another 10 on the sky train to Nana, so no way would i stay in that area when i enjoy Nana area so much more, hence i am looking for options around where my new place is.

  3. It really depends on where you are flying in from, i work in Angola and have flown in on Ethiopian Airways, and you must go to the health check area and they stamp your arrival card, but if i fly via anywhere else, like Dubai yesterday it is not requested, i have seen people from the Ehtiopian flight stand in line for 40 minutes to then be told to go back to get the stamp.

I guess they know when these flights are arriving as it has only been on Ethiopian that i have ever been asked for it.

  4. Our family was walking through a garden center in the UK, father leading the way when i noticed something hanging out of his trouser leg, i was maybe 10 years old, so innocently i shouted to him that he had something poking out his leg, he then proceeded to pull yesterdays underwear out of the trouser leg and stuff them in his pocket as if nothing had happened, 20 years later and i still laugh when i think about it, even sometimes re-enacting it for the family in the house.

A friend of mine fell asleep at a party so we dotted his face with that shoe polish in a bottle, the one with a sponge on the end, he looked like a leopard, woke up in the morning and walked the mile home via the papershop and the bakers, nobody told him anything and only noticed when he looked in the mirror at home.

  5. Sorry for bringing up this very old topic, but it is the first i have managed to find which suggests SMA baby milk to be available in Thailand, we are moving shortly and the wife is already considering sending over crates of the stuff from UK, could anybody please confirm if SMA is infact still available?

    Cheers

  6. Hello everyone, been a member and reading here for a while but never got round to introducing myself, so here goes, i am simon from the north east of scotland, working in the oil business currently on a 5 and 3 week rotation in Luanda, Angola.

Been to Thailand 6 times in the last year or so but always heading for the nightlife of patong, now i need to slow things down and stop drinking so much, so will be visiting Udon Thani in the middle of next month.

perhaps i will meet up with some of you guys there.

Just go to Harry's,Steve's or the Clock bars and ask about golf. Plenty of guys down there will help you out.

Sorry to drag up an old thread but i was wondering if this advice still stands, i will be in Udon next month for 2.5 weeks and would like to get back into my golf instead of staying in the 19th all day and night.

    Cheers

    Simon
