  1. I just renewed my US Passport this month (November 2019). All the information you need is on the US Embassy Bangkok Thailand website including the forms to fill out & the cost. You will need to make an appointment for services on the calendar located in the passport section of the website. My appointment was on 4 November and I picked up my new passport on 14 November. Passports are picked up on Thursdays only. I chose to pick mine up because I needed to keep my old passport with me for travel purposes. If you want your passport mailed to you, you will be required to surrender your old passport the day of your initial appointment.

I've been here 6 years on a retirement visa/extension and live in Choeng Mon. when I first came here, the bars and restaurants in Bang Rak were jam packed, now they are deserted. Selling one's house is a major challenge as one agent put it "there are more people leaving than arriving". So it seems that there are fewer tourists and residents. A bit of a contradiction is that the flights in and out of Samui are nearly always fully booked (despite the monopoly fare price of Bangkok Airways).

The major challenge with selling a house is a vast majority of those selling are still pricing their property as if there is still a "boom" on Samui. The asking prices are way to high for an island in decline.

As for Bangkok Airways being fully booked.... my wife and I often fly from Samui to BKK for doctors appointment. On Bangkok Airways website the plane will show full with only a few of the higher priced seats available, (non economy), when we board we find many more seats empty than was shown on their website. There were even a few times only business class was shown to be available.

  3. I'm looking for a minimum of 1 rai (1,600 sqm) in either Lamai or Hua Thanon. Prefer flat land, on government road, with utilities on site or near. I will entertain other than flat land if the location & price is right. Chanote only no nor sor 3 (I have already experienced changing nor sor 3 to chanote & do not want to go through that again). If you have pictures and a map that would be great as not to waste so much of anyone's time.

  4. Everything has been completed for an agency to list the home. Detailed description of the construction & materials used & photos of professional quality. While I have never been paid for taking photos I do have over 25 years of photography experience, which I guess would make me a darn good amateur. Everything is in place & done properly. Maybe as you stated before the market is saturated at the moment & our property just doesn't stand out enough.

  5. My wife & I had a home built for the purpose of selling it. The construction was finished over 4 weeks ago & we started contacting real estate agents on Koh Samui, well before the holidays,  to list it on their web sites. We contacted 11 total, 4 replied, & as of today only 2 have our home listed on their site. We just can not understand why these agencies will not even return a phone call or answer an email. It is in a good area and a beautiful design with landscaped yard. It's not a grass hut or in a bad neighborhood. This whole experience has us puzzled. Anyone have any insight into this?

  6. Wife sold ladies blouses on Ebay for about 1 year. Had her PayPal account set up through Kasikorn bank. She shipped all over the world from Koh Samui. Just make sure you explain the shipping details such as item ships from Thailand and will take some time to get to them. I believe she wrote 6 - 8 weeks. Never had problems with Ebay or PayPal. Keep good records and learn how to track packages. We had problems with people complaining they never received a package, but the tracking information showed delivery was attempted several times. With this evidence the negative feedback was removed. Everything was going great, she was averaging 60K baht a month until other Thai sellers on Ebay found out she was making "big money". Then one day about 5 of them started selling the same things she was at almost cost and ran her out of business. She researched their profiles and all 5 are from the Bangkok area and 2 owned the shops she was buying her inventory from. Moral of this story is; sell something that is unique or not easily accessible to others.......good luck

  7. I am looking for a certified massage therapist, preferably someone who studied at Siriaj Hospital in Bangkok. The wife has migrains and severe dry eye problems. Spent 1 week with a massage therapist at Siriaj Hospital and her conditions were getting better, but we had to return to Samui. After many doctors, several different medications, and massage "professionals" this has been the only thing that has even come close to healing her and we would like to find someone on the island who has been educated at this university. Thanks in advance for any help with this.
