  1. Yes, 3 of us were turned away as we presented our passports at the exit desk. There was no argument, etc

The New Immigration Office is on the main road, twice as far from the border as the old one.on the same side

I should have got the name of the Officer

Rikki , i have the same experience last week ,

i got refused exit @ Thai border Mae Sai by not so friendly lady , her boss then directed me to immigration for extension , wich i got denied because i couldn t show or proof my adres with my rental contract ,

i was on my last day of stay so i drove straight to Chiang Kong and crossed the Mekong into Laos succesfully there .

another thing , also no more vip pass for shopping in Tatchilek ,

leaving for Vientiane soon now to get new visa

  2. nice picture VF ,

yes Chiang Rai is biking paradise indeed , on -or offroad , with blue sky that is

you can find everything from shimano from xtr- dura ace to lower if you want , rest is also for sale but not all brands

no need to bring your own bike unless xl size

29 er no choice of tyres available yet

  3. another bridge picture on the Wawee reservoir , big project

    post-21441-0-86437800-1320634028_thumb.j

more then 5 hr ride ,

the new road downhill from Wawee to the kok river on Thaton road is already in very bad shape ,

and then we tried a shortcut on way back from Maesalong , not really recommended , a D-tracker or KLX would be better

cycling is ok as usual , have a testrace on 13th in phayao

o and we have a new french champion in town , less then 32 min up doi Thung on roadbike , amazing

  4. yes , good ride in good company in a green environment with lots of twistie roads , low traffic and a bit of gravel and potholes to make it more adventurous

great riding here up north ,

    till next time ,

    post-21441-0-06067800-1320590746_thumb.j

in the meanwhile i am also into dirt and cycling as usual

  5. hi Sven ,

a fun trip report with great pictures ( i 'm never around this time of year , some nice clouds there ) ,

and you sure know where to go

    & don ' t worry , i don ' t know your reputation really , but i guess it must be ok :D

( you still collecting the hash fee ? )

    cheers

  6. hi Limbo ,

i know you are very loyal friend doing your duty , but it looks not too boring

yes last weekend was international race again , a great event , ( thanks also to Fatfree )

mainly Japanese riders ( man - woman ) come every year again , just for a long weekend of fun mtb - trekking adventure ( it also involves walking up the mountain , because to steep )

i only was at start and first stage to supporter a bit

    img6115w.th.jpg

    then i left for this

    img6133m.th.jpg

but that ' s for neighbour forum , what a climb

    ( you like shirtcolor ? )

    cheers

  7. it was a very hard afternoon race , on a very challenging track with steep climbs and fun downhill but even on short flat section very bumpy ride so difficult to recover

many riders , even from Singapore ,

many different age categories for B , 2 laps

for A class ( UCI license ) same age categories but 3 laps

    and open class A 2 , 4 laps

i started in A2 together with another 25 riders , i was the last one to finish the 4 laps but 10 others didn ' t make it , is always funny cause they go like crazy in the beginning , but for a 2 hour race that ' s suicide

as expected open class A2 was dominated by japanese pro riders , here temporary on training

    here some picture

  8. Lucky me , i was in a small village visiting my wife relatives while they decided that morning to drain the village river and let everyone who pay 20 baht catch as much fish they can

    fun for whole village

the raised money is used to buy small fish and set them out again for the next year fun & fishing

location : near Wang Kaew waterfall , Lampang district , but closer to Phayao , north Thailand

    enjoy

  10. hi ,

anyone experience with changing the original engine to a different type , and with legal paperwork ?

for example NSR 150 , 2 stroke bike and change to a CBR or raider 150 engine , or bigger , FTR 223 , ... , or whatever engine easily availible , secondhand or new , maybe new Tiger boxer 250 engine ,

just brainstorming to build a hobby projekt , there are a lot of 2-stroke cheapones for sale , but i prefer 4-stroke

    tnx

  11. hi Luca & Phoo ,

nice story , you are getting famous now quickly in small town chiang rai , carefull ,

any new adventures planned yet ?

by the way nice " holiday " house ,

    ciao

  12. Hi, I am Thai, raised and borned in Chiang rai.

Best place with top rating massage quality, nothing extra, nothing fancy, but clean and pure skills.

It is in a TEMPLE behind Sunkong kidergarten school, near chiang rai hospital.

100 baht per hour, minimum of 1 hour.

They have 5 years experience and up.

    confirmed , only daytime , 9 to 5

  13. Today in our village , we try to form a cooperation for the whole village of 500 plus people mosly from the akha people . Income from the homestay program and sales of handicraft will go back to the village to help the less fortunate . Good respond and hope to get some help from members here to come and stay . Pm me if anyone is interested . We are offering whole package including picking up from the CR airport . Any enquiries are welcome . Thanks in advance .

    ok , good idea

just don ' t expect too much of it , it is introduced at many places before ,

    like ( San Khampaeng mountains : www.mae-kampong.com/index.php?lay=show&ac=article&Id=394953 ) ,

i think not many Akha speak some english overthere ,

for sure when i visit , i will support your program and not stay at shin shane gh ,

no need to pick me up , i ride bicycle everywhere , .. , when i get back in shape ???

  14. hi Rinrada ,

thanks for your detailed description , i agree this area " Mae Kampong, a so-called eco village " is really great , for nature lovers , motorbike or cycling enthousiasts , and still free

    post-21441-1214772250_thumb.jpg

in december i was passing by the sign " mokfaa waterfall " ( Mae Teng area , direction Pai ) , ok i went out to have a look , but turned back after the ridiculous 400 baht fee , it was 3 pm at the time

since then i try to avoid such a situation

  15. yes , you can bike to chiangrai in one day , 9 hours if well trained , this is the short 186 km busroute

yes , there is still a lot of road construction , narrow-dirty-dusty , not safe , all before cabbage & condoms resort

alternative : first bike to Prao , very quiet road and second day direction wiang papao to chiangrai , beautifull scenery on this trip

    bon voyage

  16. What happened to the Challenge in 2008? I can't find any information about it.

    hi Gagabel ,

i put the topic in community events

    http://www.thaivisa.com/forum/index.php?sh...0&start=100

    http://www.acutech.co.jp/mtb/english/index.html

    so tomorrow the next race

japanese professional won today and thai chiangrai rider ' Tee ' got second ( see picture , Trek shirt )

    post-21441-1202549263_thumb.jpg

    just before crashing

    post-21441-1202549181_thumb.jpg

pictures are taken steep downhill from Akha hill

  17. indeed one of the steepest paved roads i ever found are in that area ,

    very beautiful scenery

easiest way is from san khampaeng and follow green sign : Ban Mae Kampong Homestay

after the coffeeshop it gets realy steep

anyone else who manage to bike whole the way to the top ?

    post-21441-1197633535_thumb.jpg

then further downhill to '' Jae Sorn National Park '' , see map post-21441-1197633852_thumb.jpg

  18. you can buy a giant , merida or trek for 8-10.000 , then you have a basic but reliable bike

depending of the angle of the headset and steer you can change your position a bit

i wouldn ' t advise anything else , unless if it is just to ride at and park in front of the bar

  19. Honda FSX 150 for sale

engine is same like NSR model : 2-stroke

completely overhauled last month from dealer where i buy from 2 year ago , in Chiang rai

tyres , chain - sprocket all in good condition

reason for sale : buy of road bike

    post-21441-1197021360_thumb.jpg

    post-21441-1197021473_thumb.jpg

    asking price : 25.000 bath

based in chiang rai , can deliver in chiang mai

  20. just discovered this interesting topic

my experience a few days ago : Chiang Mai , mae thaeng district , MOKFAH WATERFALL

    entrance foreigner 400 bath

i just wanted to visit maybe one hour : no exception , pay full price for a day pass

so i refuse , i don ' t want to be treated as another stupid tourist

20 to 400 bath = multiplied with 20 , compare this in salary : thai salary 15.000 bath or more to 300.000 bath ???

i spend lots of hours cycling in the most beautifull scenery , doi saket - san kampheng mountains , and allover chiang rai province : for free

and i prefer to support local small business instead of all this government projects

talk about this subject to thai people , they also say it ' s crazy policy

solution : i just avoid these places from now
