  1. I have been to Koh Chang by car many times already, but I am thinking about taking my bike instead on my next trip ????

    1. I am an "experienced Pattaya city rider". But is this kind of trip actually doable/advisable on a 150cc scooter? Has anybody here attempted this already?

    2. Would I need "special clothing" or would be jeans, long arm shirt, and gloves sufficient? Would be a ¾ helmet with visor ok?

    3. I noticed that Trat often had rain when I drove through (even though Koh Chang was dry). Would be a "25 baht 7-11 rain coat" enough to get by in case of rain? I would obviously try to do this kind of trip in the dry season.

    4. I guess the trip would take significantly more time than by car.  Maybe one hour more? But at the ferry pier ...  do bikes actually have (significantly) less waiting time than cars normally?

    Any other thoughts?

    Just brainstorming ????

But, crucially, they made the error of adopting 'Belt in Oil' (BIO) to drive the cam.

My advice to any car buyer is to avoid any turbo-triple engine if you intend to keep the car much beyond its warranty period. Also avoid anything with BIO.

Thanks for this great answer. You confirmed my concerns. There is a lot of info on Malaysian websites about  the "1.5 vs 1.0 turbo" topic, because Malaysia did not get the turbo version. And some reviewers wrote basically that the 1.5 liter engine was the better choice (for the reasons you mentioned).

So I guess the Yaris is the better choice (for me).

    PS

The Yaris has a "timing chain" (just in case anybody was wondering).

It's quite fast and could do with a brake/pad upgrade.

Hard acceleration and you will ehar the 3 cylinder thrum. But its not that annoying. But higher speeds its fairly quiet. It could do with more insulation though, as sound creeps into the cabin. That could be done at an audio shop.

I've not seen any reports in city facebook pages about problems with the turbo/gearbox.

The brakes are btter on the ativ, as it has rear disc (unless one gets the city hev)

Thanks for this detailed report (and thanks to the others as well).

Many like the Honda City, I guess, because the previous generation has that smooth four cylinder 1.5l engine.

I will definitely test drive both cars. (Still waiting for a callback ...)

  4. Hi motor experts!

Both are good enough looking cars in my opinion, but I was wondering about the "under the hood stuff". What are the "pros and cons"?.

Obviously the Honda City looks more powerful on paper. 122hp. But it has a three cylinder engine. The Yaris has a smoother four cylinder engine, but only 92hp.

At low rpm three cylinder engines are louder (more vibrating) than four cylinder engines, I read. Is that still a problem nowadays?

And what about long term durability/reliability of the turbo charged engine compared to the "regular" engine in the Yaris?

What are your thoughts? Are they any other "pros and cons"?

I like the Honor 8X for people interested in a nice mid-range big screen phone.  I just wish loginwith would post what $220 phone he is interested in so we will know what style of phone he is looking at (compact? big screen? etc).

    How about sharing, please, loginwith.

The phone was not relevant to my question :-)

Anyway, in the end I purchased a Mi Max 3. Nice phone, very good battery life, good price (9000). But also - very important - rootable with Magisk and has a decent "xda" community. I also looked at the Poco F1, but the notch was too big (and in my test the scrolling performance in Firefox was better in the Mi Max 3, despite the 636 in the Max 3 vs 845 in the Poco F1). Only downside so far: It is not stock Android, so it feels a bit more bloated. The Mi A2 (Android One) is very nice phone, but the battery ...

  6. Hi,

Friend of mine has to catch an International flight which departs 4am (in the morning) from Suvarnabhumi.

I guess she should leave here around midnight. How is the traffic around that time?

And how is the traffic around 2am to 3am in Pattaya (coming back from the airport)?

I guess it should be ok?

    Thanks!

  7. Back in Pattaya and I noticed that Supalai Mare is finished now. But there is "suddenly" a new building next to it now "D-Luck cinematic theater". Not quit finished yet. When does that open? Another thaivisa topic mentioned "December" but I guess there will be a delay?

Does a theater like that decrease the value of the condos in that area? At least 500 units face that new theater directly. I guess they will be able to hear the show every evening - for free :-)

  8. Normally this wouldn't be an issue but since property prices have fallen recently ...

When purchasing a condominium in Foreign title holding, the foreign purchaser must bring in 100% of the funds from overseas in a foreign currency and will need a Foreign Exchange Transaction Form (FETF) from a Thai bank.

It looks like the minimum amount for an FETF is $50000 (according to the sticky topic in this forum). But if the condo is just $30000 (e.g. a Park Lane one bedroom in Jomtien ...), will the foreign purchaser still have to transfer $50000?

  9. @NightRider70

Thanks. I checked out Speed Sound. However I couldn't find SK Audio (I must be really blind ...). But thanks to you I found a "Ung motor shop" (auto parts) near that location. The Thai guy in charge speaks excellent English (085-6605570).

    @KittenKong

    > If you want product choice in any category go to Bangkok or look on-line: you wont find it here.

I guess you are right. If you happen to know a store in Bangkok that has decent stock please post here. Thanks!

  10. I have been to "Boy Air and Sound" (www.google.co.th/maps/@12.9907666,100.9253942,3a,75y,97.14h,83.39t/data=!3m6!1e1!3m4!1sEE8J-fCB12T0E8YwHamOGg!2e0!7i13312!8i6656 - they now have a "faded kenwood sign" on top of the shop which is not shown in the google streets view ...). But they didn't have anything (and most items they have are like 2011 or 2012). But I read many times that they are pretty good at installing stuff (although inside the small store it looks pretty messy).

    > You can't walk down Suk without falling over car audio shops

I did that four times but maybe I am blind. In that case could anybody post a name and a google maps link please? Thanks!
