  1. 1 What nationality is the "person"?

A 30 day "visa exempt" entry would be available to an Australian citizen arriving in Bangkok

    4. An Indian person could, with a confirmed flight out , obtain a VOA in Bangkok prior to approaching immigration (there is a big sign) for a fee of 1000 Bht.

The Indian who is coming to Chiang Mai will be getting a return ticket not exceeding 14 days, Delhi/Bangkok/Chiang Mai/Return. He will be bringing 1000 Baht with him for the 15 day visa on arrival. His flight will have a stop over of about 2-3 hours in Bangkok on route for chiang Mai. The luggage will be booked through to Chiang Mai.

Where will he get his visa on arrival 15 day visa, in Bangkok or Chiang Mai?

If Chiang Mai just before he picks up his luggage in the international terminal side?

Or in Bangkok Airport at immigration just before picking up check in luggage?

if there then he will have to leave the area where you collect your luggage and move up a floor to the departures area and walk to the domestic area where you check in luggage. He won't need to check in luggage because his luggage will be booked through to Chiang Mai and then enter into the domestic terminal and then go to his gate where his flight will depart?

  2. Unless the flight's ultimate destination is Chiang Mai there would be no transit through the airport in Bangkok. There is no transit from international flights to domestic flights.

The person in either case would have to clear immigration in Bangkok collect their luggage and then check in for the flight to Chiang Mai,

An Australian would get a 30 day visa exempt entry not a visa on arrival.

The Australian has a return airline ticket Australia/Bangkok/Chiang Mai/return. He will be flying through Bangkok with 2 hour change between flights. His luggage will be booked through to Chiang Mai so he will not be leaving the airport. Where will he get his 30 day exempt visa, Bangkok or Chiang Mai?

If it is Chiang Mai just before collecting his luggage? If it is Bangkok does he have to go through immigration then out of the airport and then into the domestic area and then catch his plane?

  3. The Australian has a one ticket Australia/Bangkok/Chiang Mai. So he will be flying through Bangkok. For him to get a 30 day visa exempt can he get it in Chiang Mai.

  4. I have two main questions (four parts)

Visa on arrival for Australian on route to Chiang Mai

    1. If someone was coming from Australia and transiting in Bangkok on route to Chiang Mai, can they get a visa on arrival (30 day) in Chiang Mai or they have to do it in Bangkok?

    2. If in bangkok do they do it at the transit area where they move from International to domestic terminal?

3 or do they have to go through the immigration section as if you will stay in Bangkok. After getting the 30 day visa on arrival walk out of the area where you collect your check in Luggage and then up to the domestic departures and in there?

Visa on arrival for Indian on route to Chiang Mai

    4. Where must an Indian go if they are getting a 15 day visa on arrival if they are travelling to Chiang Mai (they will be in Bangkok Airport for 2 hours before the next flight)? (the transit area between International and domestic or at Immigration in Bangkok)

  5. My son got a new passport and I need to transfer his study visa across to his new passport (He is studying at an International School).

    I have three questions

    1. Where do I do this is Chiang Mai (Immigration office at Promenada Mall or Airport )?

    2. What items do I need to photocopy and bring to attach to the application form to transfer visa to new passport?

    3. What Form do I fill out?

    Thanks for your help/advice

  6. My boy just recently got a new Australian Passport. His original Education visa is on his old passport. Australian Government stamped on his old passport that he has a new passport and asked that all visas will continue. His 90 day reporting is coming up can I do a 90 Day online reporting for him and if I do, do I quote his old passport number, or new passport number or both. Or I can't do it online I have to go to the office and get his visa transferred to his new passport and then get it done?

  7. I have a number of questions regarding 90 day reporting

    1. If someone's 90 day report is due on 22 August is it too late to do it online?

    2. What about posting it in, is it too late?

Where do you post it to if you live in Chiang Mai and what is the procedure?

    3. Last time I did a 90 day reporting I didn't need a certificate of residence.That hasn't changed has it?

    4. Last time my family arrived in Thailand 6th July the Immigration officer didn't staple our TM6 Departure cards into their respective passports. Now we have 3 departure cards but we don't know which passports they refer to. Should I go to Chiang Mai Immigration near the Airport or Promenada office to find out which one is which. When I lost one earlier this year I went to the office near the Airport and it took them only 15 minutes to get a duplicate TM6 and staple it into the correct passport.

  8. My family and I have a one year non immigrant visas. The boys are on Study Visas and my wife and I are on Guardianship visas. We are going overseas in the beginning of June for 25 days and I know we need to get re-entry permit before we leave. My questions are these:

    1. Can you get your re-entry permit at Chiang Mai Airport before you leave (I would like to avoid the immigration office since lost of people go there) ?

    2. How long do you have to plan for processing it (1 hour)?

    3. Can you get the permits a day before you your schedule flight?

  9. Three questions:

    1. If my children's study visa and my guardianship visa finishes on 16th June (which coincides with the end of the school academic year), how early can a person apply for an extension for another year (assuming my children's school fees are paid for next academic year and we have all the necessary paper work available)? I have had a number of people tell me different time frames (eg: 30 days, 45 days or longer)?

    2. If one of my children's passport expires in March 2016 will the Immigration process our application for renewal of their year study visa in May 2015 knowing that one child's passport needs renewal in March 2016?

    3. When I got my children's study visa and our guardianship visa just a few weeks ago, a man who was on a retirement visa told me he got a new passport and he couldn't get his retirement visa transferred across to the new passport. He had to reapply for his retirement visa with all the paper work. Is this correct? If it is then we can't get our child's study visa transferred to their new passport when we get their new passport in March 2016, we will have to reapply for it?

  10. When applying for extensions for student visa and guardianship visa at Chiang Mai Immigration and they ask you "do you want single entry or multiply entry".

    1. Does single entry mean since you are in Thailand you can leave once and re-enter after that if you plan to go again overseas you have to get another single entry visa for Student and or Guardianship?

    2. If you have to get another single entry, do you have to get all the letters from the school, bank, etc and show them. Line up at Immigration office and spend a day there in order to get another single entry?

  11. What notorised documents must be brought with the extension visa for 1.our children's student visas (changing from 3 month non Immigrant to Student visa) and 2. our guardianship visas (my wife and I). I've heard notorised photocopies of the children's birth certificates and parents marriage certificate (however a friend said he hasn't had anyone from the Immigration office ask for his notorised copy of his marriage certificate yet)?

The reason why I'm asking is I'm going to my embassy to get my copies notorised before going to the Immigration office.

  12. I don't know where to put a new post to ask these question anyway here are my questions

    1. Is there a web page which tells the public when Chiang Mai Immigration office will be having a public holiday and their doors will be closed. For instance in March and April which working days it has been declared as a public holiday and their doors will be closed?

    2. If a person had his children come in on a 3 months non immigrant type O visa and is going to move their children over to a study visa (they attend an International School here). What forms do they need to get from the Immigration office to fill out for this (assuming the person has all the reliant documentation from an International School in Chiang Mai, notorised documents (birth certificates etc))?

    3. Similarly if parents had arrived in Thailand on a 3 month non immigrant type O visa and they are going to move across to Guardianship visa what forms do they need to fill out from the immigration office (that with their supporting documentation from the School, and bank, with notorised documents like marriage certificate and birth certificates of their children)?

  13. Please correct me if what I understand is wrong you are saying this:

for single entry non-im visa you have 90 days to enter Thailand otherwise it is made void. If you enter within that 90 days you have 90 days stay in Thailand to extend the boys visa to a year visa and the parents to Guardianship visa?

Or The visa starts upon getting it stamped in the book. You've got 90 days to get to Thailand and put the kids in the school and to get the Guardianship visa?

  14. I've got a question.

After I get the documentation from the school. I apply for

1.a. Non-Immg Education visa for my boys?

    b. What is the length of stay in Thailand for the visa (3 months or longer)?

    2. a The visa my wife and I will apply for will be Non-Immg. What sub category?

(we hope to move across to Guardianship visa after arriving in Thailand)

    b. What is the length of stay in Thailand for the visa (3 months or longer)?

    3. What is the validity of the visa after receiving it in which you then must enter Thailand or the visa becomes void (12 months or what)?

    a. for the Non Im Educ?

    and

    b. for my wife and I?

  15. What I understand from your post is I should go to Brisbane and apply for a single entry Non Immigrant O visa stating "After arriving in Thailand I will apply for a retirement visa". And also apply for my wife and children for an Non Immigrant O visa. Then after arriving and I get the retirement visa get extensions for them on the basis that I have a retirement.

But I thought to get an Non Immigrant O visa you need a sponsor letter from an organisation in Thailand?

  16. Do you have a visa from an embassy or an extension of stay you got at immigration?

If you are on an extension of stay based on retirement your wife and children can get extensions as your dependents. They will need non-o visas to apply for the extensions and if they don not have them now they will need to go out to a nearby embassy or consulate to get them.

The dependent extensions will be easier than getting the ED extensions for the children.

We are in Australia and considering the option of retirement visa since I'm over 50.

  17. Yes I know that we will need 500k for each parent/guardian deposited in a bank and in our case we also need 2 children attending the school. One child for one parent and another child for the other.

Question: Is the money in the bank account is still 500k I heard it has gone up?

So in regard to getting a school letter what should be stated in the letter?

  18. I'm aware of what is required for a Guardianship visa for a parent.

    1. One child attending a school in Thailand for each guardian

    2. Parent/Guardian enter Thailand on Non Immigrant O Visa

    3. 500,000 Baht deposited into a Thailand bank for at least a month

We have two children (non Thais, 5, 8 years old), my wife and I are non Thais (we all are Australian). One child is enrolled in a school in Chiang Mai the other we can enrol him.

The problem we have is how can you obtain a Non Immigrant O visa from a Thailand Consulate in our country for my wife and I (we are planning to get two guardianship visas one for my wife and one for me).

    1. How can you show a bank account in Thailand with 500,000 baht in your name if you are not living in Thailand? You can only get a bank account after arriving and renting a house.

    2. To get a Non Immigrant O visa you need a sponsoring letter from an organisation in Thailand. If the school writes a letter will that be sufficient?

Has anyone been successful in getting a Non Immigrant O visa using the school as the sponsoring organisation? What must be said in the letter? What about the bank account and money?
