  1. I only found out that my girlfriend used to be a bar girl after I was dating her for about six months. I really would never have guessed, because she doesn't speak a word of English, she's extremely shy, and she's not particularly great in the sack either. But the story came out later...

It was a big shock to me because I've always had a rule that I won't date bar girls. But hey, it's a rare case where I didn't know that before, and her story was convincing enough that I have given her the benefit of the doubt. Apparently, she was bullied into it by her narcissistic, drug-addicted mother who constantly demands money from her and puts her under a lot of pressure to do it. She lasted about two months, absolutely hated it, and had 2-3 very bad experiences, judging by what she told me.

Not surprisingly, she doesn't like talking about it at all, but fortunately she seems to have moved past it.

Find that very hard to believe. I can't even imagine the circumstances where 50 yo farangs would 'rub shoulders' with young Thai girls in Isan

I've lived here for a while now and never encountered anything of the sort.

It's BS. I lived in Buriram for 3 years, it never happens... They're far too shy for one thing, they don't speak any English at all, and they have plenty of younger and better looking Thai guys to choose from anyway, especially if they're attractive.

  3. As mentioned, how the hell did he get her into the condo? Why would she go with him willingly if she knew his intentions while sat in the car? And then why did he, after apparently making a huge effort to force her into the condo, suddenly relent at the last second when he probably had a stonker on? To me that seems like the most unlikely time a would-be rapist might suddenly give up and say "okay, I'm sorry, forget it".

I think she's full of crap, maybe she felt she didn't get paid enough...

  4. Im sure it's just the same as Buriram, absolutely nothing to do in the village. I was lucky that my girlfriend's dad had a pig farm, over 200 pigs. I helped him scrape out the pig poo every day with a shovel cos there was literally nothing else to do. But your son will probably enjoy it, with all the wildlife

Could these so called 'traditional' drivers not join a ride-hailing app?

problem is they pay less than what motorcycle taxi drivers used to make a few years ago before they became so popular. It's probably about the same now, if you drive for Grab or drive a proper "win" motorcycle taxi, you'll maybe make 300-400 per day, which is peanuts. Before Grab et al, they could make more like 600-800 a day (though it varies based on the location). I know because my girlfriend used to ride one and she's friends with lots of drivers.

So it all boils down to the fact there's no recourse. Grab is taking a hefty cut and you can't beat them or join them without accepting the same lower wage.

    Religion of Peace!

My wife’s cousin was stationed down and around  there for 5 years  . He was glad to get reassigned up to Issan.

    He said it was scary!

One of my girlfriend's friends who was conscripted apparently volunteered to go down there. He said it's preferable to being an unpaid house boy at some rich officer's gaff in Bangkok.

She should have a word with the motor bike taxi guys, apparently wanting 2000 baht for a short ride along Sukhumvit.

Good for them, normally they make peanuts. And to be honest, it's just basic supply dynamics. Apps like Grab and Bolt were charging four-times the usual price because the demand went through the roof. But people were obviously paying up, because most couldn't even get a ride

I'm always amazed to see how 'flimsy' these buidings under construction look. But surely it's the Architects for the project who specify and monitor construction and their necks may be on the line.

The THB 258 million reduction in the project quote could of course be connected to some criminal corruption.

Perhaps the structure after investigation, will be found to be in line with normal standards.

Or maybe unbeknown, the structure of the ground deep below made that spot, is particularly vulnerable to earthquake disturbance - not everywhere shakes to the same extent during an earthquake . . . .

Pity and R.I.P. the poor souls caught up in this.

But the architects have to assume that the builders will use the specified materials. But they probably didn't...
