So the inevitable has happened. You'll never contain a virus with lockdown when it exists outside your own borders.
Time for a rethink.
Protect the vulnerable and let the rest get on with normal life

Knowing someone in a similar position I can say there is no way he would be allowed to fly until brain swelling had reduced and his skull replaced. The exposed brain can't take the changed in pressure experienced when flying.
And I imagine his job would involve stopping poachers rather than rich tourists.

Yes. Who would have thought the Aussiegovernment would be as crazy as the Thai one.
As for a 71% drop in tourists. That is nothing. Wait until you see the figures for April to September.

I'm more interested in when they will let those on NON O visas based on retirement back in. Many of us have lived in Thailand for years contributing to the economy, owning properties etc that we can't get back to now.

Rewriting history.
Dont expect any sane person to believe a word of this.

Hopefully the results of this survey will be reported in the mainstream media so those on power can see what we think of them.
I do think part of the reason Thais have become less tolerant is the type of mass tourist they have successfully attracted in recent years show less respect for Thai culture and ways. The model whereby these mass tourists pay everything upfront in their home country has much less benefit for the average Thai person.

Thailand's peak infection rate was probably in January before anyone had heard of Covid 19. It has followed the natural curve seen in most countries do rapid growth followed by a slow but steady decline.
Add in in very limited testing and it is easy to see that they haven't done any better than a country like Sweden that had very limited lockdown.
Damage to the economy is massive and will only be seen in years to come.

Ive lived in Thailand for decades but am outside right now. I have no plans to return while they keep all the hoops in place that I need to jump through. I can spend my money elsewhere more easily and that is what I, and I'm sure many others will do. I'm sure many won't bother to return once they get cp,for table elsewhere.

As I said elsewhere, this if confirmed is bad news for those of who would like to return to our retirement homes in Thailand.

Hopefully any extension will be short as there is little hope for those of us stranded outside Thailand being able to return while the amnesty continues.
It works both ways.

I wonder if the doctors advice extends as far as banning foreigners coming in for medical treatment?

Do you think Australia has handles CV well?
No immunity and no vaccine in sight. Can they keep the country closed for ever?
As the edit button isn't working for me this is how my post above should have read.

The UK is providing the corridors for countries which have reciprocal rules. Obviously Thailand doesn't have reciprocal rules with all the ridiculous rules they have put in place to enable people to come to Thailand. TAT is destroying tourism not creating it!
Not quite true. Countries like Australia are in the Uk list but do not allow People from the Uk free entry to their country.

WHAt natilnality eat the kids. That may be relavent when the bridge opens as well.

So you have an amnesty until the end of July.
Lets assume it ends then. Do you want to be going to immigration With all the others who used it to the full extent and repeat the crush every90 days thereafter.
Id be doing one now while it is quiet and be far from immigration when the amnesty ends.

I recently extended for another year and took the multi re-entry option. I used to leave/re-enter 8-10 times per year but now it is usually just 2-3 times. I could sane money by getting single re-entries but just don't want the hastle. And if were to leave at short notice the last thing I'd want to be thinking about was if I could get my re-entry permit before leaving.

Forgot to mention my last visa was done by Thai Consulate in my country not IO
IT is extensions of stay that are being discussed here, not actual visa applications.
For an extension you must 800k baht 2 months before and 3 months after the application. The rest of the time you must maintain a minimum balance of 400k.

I extended my extension to stay for another year based on retirement at Jomtien last week. Many others were doing the same. I also got a multi re-entry and did my 90 day report at the same time.
Why take chances when for most people it is easier (quieter than normal) to do it now if it becomes due.
I do get the OPs issues with inter island travel though.

Other nearby countries have decent hospitals.

But didn't China just lockdown another city?

It's a start. Hopefully many more restrictions will be lifted sooner rather than later as well.

33 comments already and almost all of them negative.
Why am I not surprised?
Hopefully they will actually be set up and maintained and be a success and more will follow. A little optimism doesn't harm anybody.- 1
