  1. Just walk across the road from the big Charoensri Grand Hotel in the center of town,

  2. A few years ago bought my b/f a Honda Phantom (which he loves) for about 86,000 B.

Am thinking of upgrading him to a Harley Davidson model FLHTC Electra Glide classic (as a birthday present) cost about 627,000 B according to Harley dealership in Bangkok.

Is there a BIG difference between the Harley and Phantom other than the "mystique" and status of driving a Harley? Is the Harley worth it??

I know nothing about motor cycles other than I'm afraid of driving or even riding on them.

Anyone knowledgeable & experienced with Harleys out there that would like to comment about this upgrade??

You must be joking, comparing honda against REAL BIKE.

  3. Hi

I have no idea about isuzu, but Chevy has always offering 0% intrest IF pay 50% of new Truck price as downpayment

rest should be payed with in 2yrs, i got my zafiral last time like that and they offering Captiva witht the same deal plus the extras as well.

I went shopping today to buy a new truck for the company. I am gonna buy a Isuzu NKR Price around 920.000 THB. I noticed 2 things

    1) There are big price differences between several official Isuzu dealers, up to 90.000 THB.

    2) There is also a big interest rate differences between the several finance companies.

Anyone have updates of the current finance rates? I know if the dealer arrange the finance, they will get a part (kick back) of it. So I think it's better to go to my own bank

    Thanks :o

  5. thnks for the info guys..you know everything on here..Mny thanx Bill

At about 600 per night, the Sri Isaan Hotel is very pleasant - I like the decor and the beds are very comfortable, they also include breakfast. Again, not a GH, but to give you an idea of what is available. Of course there are also the large hotels...

    Cheers,

    Mike

P.S. If you need directions to any of these places, let us know, someone will be able to direct you.

Yes I've stayed there. Place was clean and pleasant enough - nothing flash, but what you'd expect. I can't comment on the breakfast as we didn't have that. Not much to do around that area though and getting taxi's proved quite difficult.

Is there anywhere to stay nearer the shops, bars, etc?

Regent hotel is BEST AND CLOSEST for bars and entertainment,, Wrong way is other end of the town,, so not so close..

but like said here earlier make sure your room is not above karaoke,,,they even can communicate with english very well,,

IF i would be looking for place in Ubon i wuld stay in REGENT

  6. Hi all,

I have also posted this on the Pool forum but as we know there is nobody as helpful as an Issanite.

Its getting to a stage where I am thinking about a pool and have surfed and searched to try and locate a builder near Khon kaen city (although I am 100 km west) but havent had any luck.

There must be someone out there who has had a pool built recently in the area who can offer some advice or leads.

I may have to go down the owner/builder track but havent had any experience and the DIY sites seem to only explain the American way of construction with the spray crete.

Any info gratefully recieved or even some working plans, drawings, DIY experience, perhaps some home drawn guide by an owner builder or someone with time on their hands to put together a step by step guide for us guys in remote locations.

I know there would be a demand for working drawings in English using Thai construction methods as there appears to be a lot of potential DIY type of people enquiring about pool construction.

    I am just thinking about a basic 8m x 4m rectangular job.

Also, my wife did get a quote from a guy recently who wanted to drive 30 odd piles in the ground first, is this standard practice? The ground has been built up but after excavation the bottom of the pool would be on original surface. It seems excessive to someone who knows nothing about it. Me! :o

    Thanks in advance

    Khun Andy

    Hi Khun Andy

I know b****r all about building pools but my next door neighbour is having one installed about the same size you mentioned.

He has had 36 piles of about 2 meter length driven into the ground, so far that is all that has been done but he assures me this is necessary due to the excessive ground movement during wet/dry seasons.

I think the moral is better to be over the top than have one which cracks!!!

    TBWG :D

  8. Hi

Does anyone know where, and how to get a motorcycle that has been imported into Thailand, registered and given a green book here in Thailand? I've been told there are two different charges for this, 50000 and 80000, when the higher charge is made the bike is usally inspected. If anyone has any more information about this two thier charge and any info about the inspection, please let me know. Also what paper work for the bike and myself will i need to register it.

Where to start???? First, used motorcycles are not allowed to be imported into Thailand unless you are the owner and have been for over one and one-half years before permanently moving to Thailand. You must have the title from the country you moved from, the export-import papers and a letter from the Thai Ministry of Commerce giving you permission to bring the bike into Thailand. However, used bikes are smuggled into Thailand all the time, some are bikes broken down and called "spare parts" others are whole bikes brought in by other means. One way or another some of these bikes get registered. None of it is legal. Nuff said.

I got Spare parts bike registered totally legal 50000+10000=60000 with green book and insurance and tax paid, no worries.

must be depenst of additude when one is registering that....

  9. LoveDaBlues is correct, insurance offered by Toyota is not standard throughout the country. hel_l, the two Toyota dealerships here in Pattaya don't even offer insurance from the same company. Never assume that anything in Thailand is standard throughout the Kingdom, try visiting a few different immigration offices and you will know exactly what I mean.

REALLY TOYOTA DO NOT OFFER INSURANCE in pattaya when one buy a new car? if you buy it cash full ammount i wud understand that but when one is buying in downpayment 1st class insurance is copolsory, just incase of accident toyota will get money back from the car if ist crecked...

and correct what emperor_tud comment, total ass if i may say so, but what im try to say that whole issue is bit off the road, that basically promote drunk driving, kind of insurance advertising,, We quarantine when you drive drunk and have your car crecked, you will get full refund..."

he was using V insurance company...you know what it is...

Ubon Ratchathani Airport warns floating lanterns pose aviation hazard

UBON RATCHATANI: -- The Ubon Ratchathani Airport has requested that local residents refrain from releasing floating lanterns in the vicinity of the airport during the Loy Kratong Festival due to possible aviation hazards to airliners.

The Director of the Ubon Ratchathani Airport, Mrs. Ampawan Wannago (อัมพวัน วรรณโก), revealed that during Loy Kratong Festivals local Ubon Ratchathani residents typically released large numbers of floating lanterns, many of which entered the airspace of the airport. Mrs. Ampawan said that the lanterns pose aviation hazards to airliners and may cause accidents.

The Director of the Ubon Ratchathani Airport is therefore requesting that local Ubon Ratchathani residents cooperate in preserving life and property by not releasing floating lanterns in the vicinity of the airport when airliners are in operation during the time periods of 7-8 AM, 2-5 PM, and 8:30-9:30 PM.

I thought Loy Krathong was November 5th, not April 1st :D:D:D

  14. What you think would be his punishement of ILLEGEAL ENTRY TO KINGDOM??? iF HE COMES...OR FIND OUT LATELY THAT HE IS ALREADY IN THE COUNTRY..

If Thaksin was in China to "meet friends", it could be that his entry was arranged by these same Chinese friends (handed out a generous donation) without the Thai Embassy's help. Of course , the real reason was to meet the Thai PM unannounced.

He's sneaky, has money, will never change.

"Foreigner Arrested For Wildlife Trafficking At Suvarnabhumi"

after that it shows Japanese man....

    This is so typical,,,

when something bad happend,, Japanese are considered as "Foreingners"

when headline is Foreigner,,,it's alost every time thought that is some farang again,,,,

headline would not sell so much if it would be JAPANESE MAN arrested.........

when it come to bail,, 40G...they spend that in few hrs in karaoke any how,,

to protect wild life in thailand,, there should be same treatment than in Drug's,, im sure that would help.

Japanese arrested for wildlife trafficking through Bangkok airport

BANGKOK: -- A Japanese man has been arrested for trying to smuggle slow lorises out of Thailand through Bangkok's new international airport, a wildlife group and an official said Saturday.

The suspect, 34-year-old Yogohari Takashi, was apprehended Friday at Bangkok's Suvarnabhumi airport for concealing nine slow lorises along with one Malayan snail-eating turtle, both protected species under Thai law, in his luggage, WildAid Thailand said in a statement.

Nirat Nipanan, the anti-wildlife trafficking chief at the airport, confirmed the arrest.

"The suspect was handed over to the police and he has bailed himself out," Nirat said.

Takashi confessed to buying the slow lorises at Bangkok's Chatuchak Market, where a number of endangered species are on sale, at 6,000 baht (; €129) per animal, WildAid said.

It was the third time this year that slow lorises have been confiscated en route from Thailand to Japan.

Nirat said the suspect faces charges of smuggling protected animals out of the country and could face the maximum penalty of three years in jail or a 40,000 baht (US$1,099; €858) fine.

  17. just checked out,, UBC has 22 empty channels for the "future programs"

why canelling 2 channels is so important that they could not place those thai music channels for those empty slot's?????

    Dear Mr. ********,

Thank you for your e-mail below, Regarding to your complain about removing MTV and VH1 channels, we would like to clarify you that UBC-True has a policy to focus the content to knowledge-base programs to fulfill the subscribers’ demand and viewing trend by launching several new channels. For music channels, based on UBC survey, the popularity of Thai music has been constantly growing; therefore, UBC has introduced Majung and True Music and decided to stop broadcasting MTV and VH1 in order to reserve the channels for future programs

We appreciated that you have sent all valued suggestions to us to improve our service. We have no intention in taking advantage over UBC subscribers as we had launched new channels with the recent addition of True Music (30) game channel G-Square (22) as well as Explore 1 (61), Explore 2 (62), Explore 3 (63), movie channel Movie Hits (53) and another music channel Majung (34) without charging any additional monthly service fee. Sorry if this caused you any inconvenience.

Because they would spoil the bar scene :o
