  1. I read elsewhere that it's not the cost of the holiday that the issue, as the Cameron's were paying for that themselves. The problem is the £50,000 cost of security.

Whether you like Cameron and his party, or not, he's still the British Prime Minister, and as such the PM has a right to protection. I think it's pathetic that the press are saying taxpayers would be up in arms at expenditure like this.

Can't see other Presidents, Prime Ministers etc etc foregoing their holidays for reasons such as this.

Probably cost less than what it costs in Motor Car Escorts, Police, Time, Road Blocking, Traffic Hold Ups and all the delays when a membber of the Thai Royal Family goes to Hua Hin for The Weekend.

  2. To me it looks fairly straight fwd. the day you try to enter, they look back 6 mo's and count the number of days you have been in the country on stamps started in that period. ie: if on oct 1st, you had a stamp in your passport dated May 30th but you left on June 29th, those days should'nt count because you were stamped in more than 6 months ago. So if you timed it right you could actually be in the country 4 out of 6 months. This would make it easier for offshore guys. I am fairly certain this is how its going to be. If it was the number of days in 6 months they would have just said that. If it was simply 3 stamps in 6 months they would have just said that too. I am hoping anyway

I have a 6 year old 96 Page Passport with 90 Pages now Full, around 30% of my Passport features mainly BKK in and out Passport Stamps somewhere in the Region of 100 Sttamps....How long will it take anybody to check all these. So much for the promised 20 seconds Immigration Service at Suvarnabhumi

  3. What does this mean for those of us who go to Penang for a triple entry tourist visa twice a year?
The tourist visa is not mentioned in this announcement. Therefore, this announcement means nothing for you.

However, if you are working illegally in Thailand you should nevertheless do whatever is necessary to get legal. The basic policy seems to be the removal of foreigners working illegally in Thailand and if this new rule does not stop them the government may have other ways to do so.

    Maestro

Personally I do not understand the excitement of several members this forum caused by the new tourist visa on arrival regulations.

The typical tourist will come to Thailand most probably twice a year in maximum.

“Tourists” who are seeking other activities than normal tourists normally are looking for, should apply that visa type suiting their activities.

In Europe you have to play by the law, why not here in Thailand?

You are guest of this country - behave accordingly and you will have no problems at all.

By the way, the “new“ rules are just a consequent follow up of the spirit of old rules and visa regulation. Unfortunately the applicants over stretched old conditions too much.

These kinds of posts are really starting to annoy me. Can you please open your eyes? There are a significant number of people living in Thailand who do not seem to qualify for any of the visa options UNLESS they are going to permit endless tourist visas. What visa would you suggest a 40 year old retired American apply for who is not married to a Thai and does not wish to work or do business in Thailand?

Maybe the same Most retired 40 year olds get for the USA, 90 Days and subsequent Visits can be denied. Seem very similar to what the Thais are proposng.

  4. A short History of the Pattaya Gay Scene.

After the end of the Vietnam War, Pattaya saw the arrival of the First Mainly British Gay Visitors.

The only Gay meeting places were a Bar Attached to the Fish Restaurant at The Fishing Pier, [ Walking Street] some of it is still operating as a Fish Restaurant, forgot its name but it begins with a 'T'. Gays also met on the nice Beach where the Bali Hai Pier is now and long before the Boats which arrived in the early 90's.

Our Gay activities were watching the Fisherman Shower and some Bangkok freelancers at the Bali Hai Beach. Highlight of the week was the 16mm Straight/Hollywood Movie show on a Monday at Pompet Guest House..recently Red Lion now Beer Bars. Then came some Mixed Discos..The Ocean Floor at Siam Bayshore and the 15th Floor at Regent/Montien. Followed by Little Duck a more Gay Mixed Disco.

What was probably the First real Gay Bar which opened in the late 70's was also near Bali Hai- called The Original Tiffany's a small hotel with a Bar at the front which held about 30 people and Fridays and Saturdays we had Katoey Shows, these were expanded with the addition of more Straight Tourists and then moved to a Larger Building in the Same Complex where you carefully negotiated over the swimming pool. After the show some of the Katoeys would drink and cruise at The Terrace Bar of what is now Au Clair de Lune Hotel.

The show then moved to a small pupose built on its current site. Around the same time we got our first all Gay Disco/Bar..Fire and Ice on Beach Road somewhere above what is now Chaplins Snack Bar area. This only lasted a short time.

Finally a single shop house called Cockpit opened, with a prior owner to Michael, they also did on-site Short Time Bois upstairs. It was here at the bar on New Years Eve around 85/86, I first met Jim. Who had escaped from Gordon and The Royal Cliff Gala Event. Jim. Myself and A Japenese or Korean Gay guy were the only 3 customers. Then I believe Michael bought the Bar and it became a 2/3 shophouse unit with a Travestite show.

Meanwhile Gentlemans Club and another Gar Bar [Why Not?] opened in the ajoining Pattayaland 1, before Big Time Gay comes to Pattaya with the Opening of Boys...The rest they say is History

And Jomtien..well thats all another story.
