  1. I gave up on that office after tree trips with answers like "a farang can not get a drivers license in Thailand". I ended up with getting it in Pattaya. Then i went to Sa kaeo to renew and they insisted it had to be fake, and back to Pattaya to renew. Last renewal i went strait to Pattaya.

ok thanks for that local info. was wondering if you actually needed to have an address in the same province as where you get the licence so obviously not. thanks again.

yes there is a significant amount of obfuscation from significant segments of the population in this region.

but could be a language issue in this case.

i don't think it is a language thing, i speak Thai and that didn't make any difference.

    hmm ok noted,

  4. If you want a driving licence, go to your nearest DLT office and get one.

yes einstein that would be about right. first you have to find someone who speaks english. then there has to be knowledge of the office location. then you have to assume that you are actually getting accurate info. remember too you aint got a vehicle to follow blind leads willy nilly.

if you know where it is or how to locate it do tell..

Here's your reply simple easy, google is your friend I'm not, and who the L is Einstein, maybe he is one of my descendants.laugh.png

  6. About 5 years ago I did a "visa" run to Penang and decided to make it into a bit of a holiday. We spent a week at a hotel on the beach. The first day it rained pretty heavy and the runoff from the river was disgusting. No way were we going to swim in the ocean.

I had a friend staying in the main town, so we visited him a few times, but traffic is pretty bad. We walked around the old town a bit, and it was OK. Food was kinda nice in that we could sample some good Indian and Chinese, but it was fairly expensive. Good Indian food here in Thailand is also expensive, but harder to find.

We thought it was OK, but not a place we'd go back to, as there are so many other options. It was funny to be on the beach, wifey in her bikini, and all these muslim women in their burkas. They'd just sit there and stare at her. Kinda strange.

I don't know if there were less Muslim women in burkas when you went, but now Batu Ferringhi is packed with them.

if you see women in burkas in malaysia it is 95% sure they are not malaysian. lots of cheap flight from middle east now.

pickpockets on the free buses are an issue.

you must also first visit the chow kit market early morning, opposite the police station on penang road. get a load of halal in action, you will then be a vegetarian for your whole stay.

  7. BS there doesnt exist any room on the ground floor anywhere in thailand that doesnt have a metal window grill. so in phuket you absolutely gotta be joking.

You might want to take a look at the 2nd photo in the link from the OP. Those are quite common throughout Thailand and would be surprised that you haven't encountered them.

hard to further argue BS when there is a picture

but yes have these type of windows on my ground floor room but there are bars as well.

this is obviously inside a building so the bars would be on the external windows not to mention security cameras. and human gate watchers too

  8.

And what is the warning -- don't take methamphetamine, ketamine, diazepam and alcohol at the same time?

i would have though it was, dont buy drugs from tuktuk or taxis, they are NOT your buddies and dont ever forget it. obviously it was the tuktuk who sold then told the police. or he was if fact police himself

police would know absolutely that you cant pull 400,000 baht out of an atm,

40,000 baht ok. prolly bad enhanced reporting by sensationalist journalist

  9. How one does a border hop by train? Gets down at the border stop then wait for next train going back ?

Tickets bought where? All the details that make a difference.

I agree that the OP is quite assuming in his writing.

How one does a border hop by train? Gets down at the border stop then wait for next train going back ?

That's what happens. About a 10 hour wait for the international train back if I remember correctly. You can shorten the wait time by taking a bus back to Hat Yai and getting an earlier train. Thai railway stations have this thing called a ticket office where you can buy tickets for travel up to 90 days in advance. It's all in the guide books/ online travel guides

penang train going meets with KL train coming, so an hour turn around and back to hatyai by train. have done this cross a couple of times.

if you miss there is as mentioned buses that go past outside the thai checkpoint at padang. about hourly. also songtaews to sadao and minibuses too.
