How is it for number plates ... daytime and night time.  Also did you buy it here in Thailand?

Can it be powered from just a USB socket oe does it need the cigarette lighter socket .... thanks

It has very high resolution so reading number plates is no trouble as long as your window is clean. It plugs into a 12v cigarette socket. There are accessories to hard wire it into your car with a battery backup option now available too. Everything is on their website.

    I bought mine in Germany.

  2. Thanks for the helpful comments. I went in today and tried for the 60 days since I thought I had all the paperwork but they asked for all the originals including the marriage certificate which I left at home.

Anyway, the officer was very helpful and said its better anyway to get a 30 day extension because after I could still apply for a further 60 days after. If I was to get 60 days first no more extensions will be given.

Anyways, 30 days is what I really needed and this I got without marriage papers as suggested above by ubonjoe.

  3. I walked into Hua Hin immigration alone to get my marriage extension with the documents listed below which was not enough:

Thai Marriage Visa Requirements (sourced online):

    1. Application Form (T.M. 7)

    2. A copy of your passport

    3. Financial proof such as:

    4. The applicant’s 2×2 inches photo.

    5. Bank Statement together with a certified letter from the bank if using 400,000 THB money as a financial proof.

    6. Copy of Marriage Certificate.

    7. Copy of House Registration. (Thai National Spouse)

    8. Copy of I.D. (Thai National Spouse)

    9. Proof of address

    10. Signed map of address

    11. photos of the house with the applicant and wife in all rooms of the house and some photos takes outside the front door showing the house/flat number.

    The officer explained:

    - my wife needs to be present

    - i need a thai witness to accompany me with a copy of their ID and book.

    - two copies of everything.

    - update marriage document from Amphur (can be obtained every year she said).

    - additional 4 colour photos to the 4 i already have of our wedding house etc.

    - we must be wearing same clothes in photos as when present at immigration for extension.

    - make new (better quality) photocopies of my entire passport.

    - draw map (which i already did).

I'm supposed to try again. Anybody else needed to bring all this or more?

  4. Cheers for the tips. I'm gonna go for a new chlorinator from the forum sponsor.

Our estate pool guy probably just used standard salt I am assuming and there is plenty in the pool. But i will order some good quality salt for next time its needed.

The salt chlorinator should indicate when salt level is too low.

My current chlorinator doesn't indicate this anymore, the unit is faulty. I ordered testing strips to test my pool water salinity and there is more than enough salt in my pool.

My new chlorinator should arrive tomorrow and i also have some Zellbrite to replace the sand in my filter. Excited.

  5. SUMMARY: My wife has instructed her family that I do not like/want family/friends to drop by for a social "get together" and definitely when we move to Thailand in 2017 "NO" Thai family will use our home as a place to crash (neither for a night or longer). Don't care if it causes a problem with the family but I/we are consistent that our home isn't a bed-n-breakfast hotel.

My wife understands I don't like any surprises and no drama. I am consistent and firm with these ways, no exceptions.

As she has two (2) great boys from a prior marriage, we have discussed to push them for a strong education and when old enough to attend college at our cost. Post their college graduation, they need to find a job and look for their own funded residence.

Post they getting married, we will not be taking care of their kids. If they need to have kids it is up to them to raise them in their home, not ours.

BACKGROUND: My wife & I have been married now for 5-years. I am from the US and she is a Thai National. Since our marriage, we annually travel back to Thailand where she has a nice house about 1-hour north of BKK (in Nakon Nayok). When I/we retire to Thailand in 2-years, I/we will be buying a house fairly close to an Expat community. We don't drink alcohol or smoke, and like sports.

I previously worked/lived in Thailand for 2.5 years and know the Thai family ways of wanting to crash at a relatives house and eat their food.

Look up the word narcissist.. And count how many times you said the word " I"

Lol spot on. Must be a fun person to hang out with. Personally I always look forward to visits from my in-laws and being able to accommodate them in our guesthouse.

  6. I have a discontinued endurochlor sc 25 ts cell thats about end if its life.

Currently my Chlorine output is set at maximum yet my pool does not have a high chlorine reading.

My pool water capacity is approx 46'000 litres and i have a family of 5.

So which chlorinator is ideal? I'm been told the Zodiac TRi Medium would do the job, but looks like it produces 24gram/h whereas I assume my old one did 25grams and was on the limit.

Should i look at the large version that does 40gram/h and just turn output back to match?

  7. After careful thought,it is sad but what's even more sadder is the fact that the nation mourns a superstar who has died due to dengue fever while countless other folk go unnoticed.

I hope this sad event may bring the issue to light for those running the show, although I feel that may be highly unlikely.

It just goes to show that an event such as this may just educate the uneducated folk.

I bet now that someone famous has died many more Thais will take Dengue seriously. They might not be as pro-active about it as they should but it will probably prevent many more cases that would have otherwise happened.

Because let's face it, right now they do absolutely nothing to prevent the spread of Dengue. Just doing anything to reduce the risk is a start. A famous person dying from Dengue is the most education the whole of Thailand has ever had on the subject so let's hope his death makes somewhat of a positive change.

I'm not sure that it can be stopped. Last i heard it was breaking out in europe with cases reported in germany, switzerland etc.

  8. They like to nest in roof eaves and ceilings. I doubt this is coming from bats in the bushes. They are in your eaves/ceiling and probably a lot of them. They don't nest outside if there is a nice shelter nearby.

With time bad odor will come and if no action taken eventually the guano will soak through parts of your ceiling requiring whole ceiling to be replaced.... I speak from bitter experience.

You need to get rid of them, and it is not easy as they are extremely stubborn once they have decided to live somewhere. Based on my 2 year battle, during which I tried everything, the only things that work are:

    1. Put some sort of strong mesh over the space where they are getting in. When you do this, be sure to nail it down after sundown as they will be out. If you completely secure it in daytime they'll be trapped inside. If need be you can secure part of it in daylight but leave a good opening until nighttime. They fly out at dusk and return just before dawn.

    2. Install lighting up in the relevant part of the ceiling. They only like to nest in dark places.

Thats freaky. I'm not sure if there is an opening anywhere in my roof but I will check it out if I can get up that high. There is a door in my ceiling leading to the roof space so guess I'll try that first.

Most of the houses in my estate are built similar so could be a neighbour that had an opening too. Some of my neighbours also have these markings.

  9. Looking at the picture you could just about predict the point of origin of the "squirt" if that's what the offending creature does when defecating.

That 300mm x 300mm white post has tell-tale fecal squirts on both faces, rolleyes.gif and their shape has a trailing tail showing the direction of travel and the marks on the railing are simple blobs having just fallen there, and on the floor too.

Looks like there's a roosting place right above where the pic was taken so do the marks on the other wall add to this theory?

Imagine using a water pistol from the same suggested roosting place, and getting the similar results?

    Q. -- Aren't bats nocturnal so wouldn't they roost there during the day so wouldn't you see it/them?

Or if not; Is there a night time light there that attracts insects that they feast on?

They usually live in noisy colonies so would two be the minimum at your house?

Maybe another creature is diurnal and just sleeps there at night?

Q-- What does Tokere(?) gecko droppings look like? You would surely hear their loud call. They are big enough to make a big droppings if indeed they are wet ones.

Good luck and hope this helps you "Chuckles".

P.S. Worth a chuckle >> It would be in the best interests of bat-design to "squirt" when defecating considering they roost upside down. rolleyes.gif

Also-- You know what a flat battery is but did you know that "bat flattery" is the sweet nothings that a he-bat utters to a she-bat when hanging there.

There is bushland/forrest/swamp to one side of my house so perhaps they are hiding in those trees but im not going in there thats for sure!

Or they could be coming from further away. I heard there are caves here somewhere in Hua Hin.

Several of my walls are squirted so perhaps they hang off my guttering.

  10. Bought several houses over the years but never thought I'm ready to die !!!!

Here have took great delight and a lot of pride in building a house which we now live in no rent to pay as my old man once told me rent money is wasted money.

Rent is only wasted money if you are a young man. Over 50, rent is not wasted money compared to building or buying in Thailand.

Agreed that buying is not for everyone. Especially if you are new to Thailand renting makes much more sense until you are sure you want to stay.

  11. If it is bats, there will also soon be a tell take stench.

Saw this article if they are bats: bat guano

Just a word of caution about droppings. They can carry a fungus known to cause Histoplasmosis. Don't breathe the feces and avoid contact with them.

We would have never thought about bats but now that you mention it we are certain as the splatters are the same (also hard to get off) and we have the hard bat droppings everywhere in our garden.

Unfortunately my young son being curious as he is has picked up some of the droppings and even attempted (may have succeeded) in putting one in his mouth.

He has been sick with flu like symptoms so we are taking him back to the bangkok hospital tomorrow to check against this bat disease just to be sure.

Odd, because the balcony hand rail is clean and you haven`t shown below the post on the floor. Is there stains on there too?

Noticed on the roof of the house opposite there are pigeons, but it doesn`t look like bird droppings or bat droppings or any animal droppings. It seems to be that someone has tried to throw some substance off the balcony and some of it has splashed onto the post.

I had it on other walls too. Also on the floors.
