It is hard to argue against the idea that the UK government is handling this issue in about the worst possible manner. Simply put, they don't seem to have a clue what the hell they are doing; it is shocking that such a major undertaking is occurring with such little preparation or forethought.

However, the reason that the UK is in this position is the incredibly foolish decision to leave in the first place. The EU, with all its many, many faults, was beneficial for the UK.

The UK voted to be small. That has ramifications, and I am sad for my British friends that they will be diminished for years/decades to come.

GB was diminished a long time ago. It has got worse for everybody in many ways due to the EU, rising violent crime, mass immigration, flawed drug laws, useless police, the betrayal of the middle  classes and the working classes and the politics of spite, envy and hate engendered  by the liberal left. It is now one of those shit hole countries that Trump refers to. It is do depressing to go back there.

That's fine for you or me or the guy standing on the corner, ....to speak our minds.  ....as long as it doesn't harm others or the environment.  None of us influence entire groups of people.

Another angle to Trump idiotic statement:  It further opens doors for other countries to enhance their international influence, while concurrently curtailing America's influence.

African countries in particular:  When they have to choose, for example, whether to go in partnership with a Chinese or an American company, which do you think they will now choose?

Just as Trump kicked American alternative-energy-related businesses in the nuts when he pulled the US out of the Paris Accords, so too is Trump going to lessen US jobs (and US reputation) overseas with his latest mouth fart.

But that presupposes corrupt  African leaders want their people to flee to democratic western countries. The Chinese invade Africa not just at multicorpprate level but at street level as in Rhodesia where they now own and control the small shops and the main local markets. This is resented by locals.

He asked a fair question, I wonder what the answer was?

These people from corrupt third world  dictatorships bring corruption and crime with them. In the UK we have Kurdish, Turkish and Albanian murder and trafficking  gangs. At a political we have local councils mired in corruption peddling influence between countries like Pakistan and the UK. Trump is telling it like it is. Those countries are unreformable  shit holes which is why people want to leave them. In Europe we asked the same question: why should we take care of corrupt, misongynistic, patriarchal, anti freedom, anti democracy disruptive groups by the millions? We should not and we can not.

With that kind of opinion, shouldn't you be fighting the jihad for Islamic State in a sandpit somewhere?

Based on 30 years experience in Thailand, going out at night a lot, talking to many Thai over three decades, travelling all round Thailand, watching my friends go on the hunt for a date at night clubs and Hi So venues and ending up with Hi So whores. Understand the subtext of peoples status and how they achieved it, self emplyed but with murky past. I knew one guy who dated a Thai women but he was chapereoned by her family for the first few dates before he married her. I know others and they still had to provide all the money - house etc. Others who thought they were on firm ground were being cheated on. The fact is: no Thai families want their daughter to marry a farang. They want a light skinned Thai Chinese boy.  In Thai culture women who sleep around may be lower on thesocial scale than whores. Get the stars out of your eyes lad!

Cute but distinctly bread and butter compared to the women to be seen around places like Thonglor and Ekkamai of an evening.

But not available to Farangs. And anyway: if they out unaconanied they are freelance whores just Hi So freelance whores who operate ina diiferent way to Bar Girls. More hypocrisy, self denial and less duties for the family.

not correct, as I clearly described in my post how I witnessed others being fined for not reporting back within 24 hours while I was at that immi office  in April 2017.

Though as of 2018, the requirement is obviously no longer in place

But we need to ascertain why kind of visas those people had who were being fined. From 2015 -Current day I have not had this issue at Jomtien IO.

Motorbike taxi from corner Theppressit & Thappraya is ฿40 to Outlet Mall. Unless baht bus looks ready to go I take that.  ฿60 for return to VT2. Usually about  ฿80 back from Makro.

I use a lady to process all my visa's and she used to work at immigration for 10+ years.   I'm on a retirement visa and last year after returning from a short trip to KL friends we talking about this 'new 24 hours report' after returning from any trip outside of country.  I couldn't / didn't believe it so i called up my visa lady and asked if it true... unfortunately YES was the answer.  She said immigration are tearing their hair out over this as much as the foreigners.  So think bout this.... you arrive in country and you fill out your form upon entering with your address.  Then within 24 hours you have to go to immigration and do the same thing again....<deleted> are these people thinking???   Fortunately for me my lady came to my house next day took some pics of my PP and said leave it with me i can sort this out online for you... which she did.  So there ya have it....

We all seem to be having different experiences! Could you ask her if the rule applies to only leaving the country or leaving the province also?

I am against violence although in this case, I think you're spot on. I've been to several Pattaya biker bars and all went well but I don't go anymore given the many choices. I think for many of these biker blokes, it's just a hobby and to have a sense of belonging to a community that has a uniform. Everyone else is all dolled up in their Harley clothes, so you do it too. Some are quiet family men and the bike gives them a hobby.

The article is about The Hells Angels not 'biker blokes'. I wonder if The Thai HA were in fact actually chartered or just wearing the colours?

When I extended at Bangkok yesterday I signed three extra forms, one of them was entirely in Thai and was for a guarantor to fill out, at least she didn’t insist that I guarantee myself. Another was something about me stating that I knew the penalties for overstay. Who thinks this stuff up? I am on a retirement and have been for eleven years.
What I find irksome is that every year they treat you as though you are doing it for the first time when with all the information they have seen, they should be able to take the form, look at your bank books and passport amend your file and sign off on the extension. It took me two visits because my fixed account passbook was only six weeks old, I provided the details of that account last year and the figures were carried forward but they can’t look that up, knowing is not the same as having a photocopy of the page. They even took a photograph of me at the desk, that probably gets printed and added to my file none of which will be ever referred to again!

But had you left the province or country within the last 90 days? If not then you are on the wrong thread. But if you had the left the country or province in the last 90 days did they fine you for not reporting back within 24 hours or do you always report back within 24 hours.  This is the issue being explored on this thread: not 90 day reporting nor yearly renewals.

I am happy to do my 90 day reporting in any manner that is available. I am not asking about 90 day reporting. I am trying to ascertain if there is any obligation to report to the authorities shortly after arrival. There is not. It is an erroneous idea that I picked up from confused threads written over the last few years on related subjects. I started this thread for purposes of clarification so as to prevent a needless visit to the IO.

Regarding 90 day reporting on line (not the subject of this thread): However, when I mooted the idea  in June at Jomtien IO I was told not possibe - not yet - not working- referring to 90 on line reporting. But anyway, I started this thread to throw light on the idea of reporting back within 24 hours to the IO every time you leave the country or province. AFAIAK leaving behind one's permant residence is not moving house - is not changing your home or housing situation. As for the CM IO - just another reason why not to live there .

That is not 100% correct. For the most part of 2017, you definitely DID have to report your return to the regular registered address after having left the kingdom. In April 2017, I did exactly that, and was almost fined 4.000 Baht, because I only went to the Jomtien immi office 5 days after re-entering Thailand. But I had stayed in BKK a few days upon arrival and could produce an online reservation confirmation which was sufficient to avoid the fine.

But while waiting in line, I witnessed how others had to pay 4K Baht fine as they did NOT report their return within 24 hours. At that time, there was a huge sign at the entrance to that small section of the office, reading "Reporting return to the kingdom" so people knew where to queue.

As of 2018, this requirement has obviously been dropped (thankfully!). They may have realized they cannot handle the daily assault of "reporters" creating a chaos in that tiny sardine can part of the office every day.

I was one of the probably Thousands of Expats who returned to the country in the time frame of Dec 29 - Jan 2, when the immi offices were closed for five days. In order to keep my sheet at Thai immigration clean, I nevertheless showed up at the first day after re-opening on Jan 3 (and yes, it was not only a zoo, but the godfather of all zoos) and queued up at the information counter (the queue covered much of the parking area all the way to Soi 5).

When I finally reached the desk (Kudos to the immi folks as the queue really moved quickly, despite a lot of foreigner-morons who came completely unprepared or/and behaved improperly), the officer at that desk basically sent me away. I told him I want to "report my return to the old registered address after leaving the kingdom", he then said "ONE YEAR - NO PROBLEM" (referring to the one-year-extension-of-stay stamp I showed him in my passport). At the same time I noticed that the sign I saw in April 2017 leading to the small section of the office where those case were being processed had disappeared as well. So, as of now (of course as we know, things can change in Thailand every day without much prior announcement) there seems to be no more such reporting requirement, but there definitely was in much of 2017.

Would be interesting to learn how the situation is as of 2018 in offices that are known to be overly strict CM comes to my mind)

Thank you for your input. I wonder if the 12 month extension makes a difference? You say you saw people being fined 4000 baht but did you see what kind of visas they had? I can only speak of my own experience from 2015 to present day whether travelling out of the country or out the province. It has never been an issue. I heard of people getting 1600 baht fine which they were to told to pass on to their landlord.  But the sheer imparcticality of processing everyone who has done a border run, been out of the province over night or out of the country on a home visit is just not feasible, not practicable.  Also it is kind of obvious that staying at a hotel is not the same as changing your address. However TIT etc.

The 3-4 Hell's Angel farangs / expats I know are nice fellows. Go beyond the "façade of tattoos and toughness" they're normal blokes. Yes, there are always a few "bad apples" in a group so it is up to the "farangs" to throw out (or tone down) the ones (Australians in this case) that are misbehaving; for, it should not be "us" verses "them".

THA MC is an international criminal organisation and recognised as such by all major police forces. Money laundering, violent crime and of course drug dealing especially meth. I met Sonny Barger once. I kept my distance.  Hunter S Thompson Wrote the definitive book about them and got battered in the process. The killed a man at the Altamont festival after which they stopped being used as security at pop festivals. They also attacked and beat people at various parties, love ins and concerts. Whether Scandinavian, USA or otherwise a member of the International Hells Angel is a violent criminal.

I'm certainly no expert as it seems the requirements change with every visit even with the same laws on the books.

Anyway, I believe the TM 28 form is used for a change of residence.  Of course I would check with your local immigration office first as they might be interpeting the law a little different there and who knows, maybe there's an updated check list for TM 28's.

Thanks for your input. So what is a TM 30 and #6 referred to in this thread? BTW one of my friends went to his IO to report that he had just arrived back in the country and was told to 'come back in 90 days'

I am unclear why the issue of 90 day reporting has arisen. I know I have to report in 90 days.  The issue I want clarifying in the context of the original information I submitted when starting this thread: Am I obliged to report to my local IO 24 hours after leaving the airport having just returned to the country to my permanent residence?

And the answer is no.  Not in Pattaya. You do not have to report to your local immigration department after travelling abroad or travelling out of your province. But you must inform immigration in the correct way within 24 of changing address/moving home to another permanent location. Hotels and guest house are temporary and you are registered when you check  in and out. I recently did my first 90 day renewal having been in Europe and Bangkok. I had also traveled around Thailand to places where I was registered by the hotel and places where they did not bother. At the IO in Soi 5 Chom tien there was no issue at all. What was more interesting was the long queue to get in which reached back to the soi. However the queue moved rapidly and once inside I was processed within minutes. I was told Mondays and Fridays are always more busy. Also notable was 'paddy wagon' in the queue with probable over-stayers I guess - all asian except one large European Guy. That was my experience in late December a couple of weeks ago. So to reiterate: leaving your RESIDENCE to travel abroad or visit other parts of Thailand does not count as changing your address. That's my take on it based on personal experience which has been consistent over the the last 3 years.

For high season its pretty slow in Pattaya.

one good thing i noticed all those noisy loud bars with their music all been toned down which i think its positive.

Could you be more specific please? There are thousand of bars spread over miles. To where are you referring? WS? SB? BR? SR? 3rd Rd. May be less people now the height of holiday season is over.  Go to SB or WS at midnight and see how busy places are and BR in the afternoon. Whether Pattaya is busy or not busy is a matter of perception and wishful thinking/confirmation bias depending on what the person wants. I think its pretty busy.
