It's getting better day by day and why bother about the 'free zones'?

There are 3 100 meter free zones along Jomtien Beach Road and just a hand full of beach goers can be found there.

The army and the police should make an inventory of real issues in Pattaya and create a plan of approach instead of this useless and annoying drills.

I'd never thought I would say this, but I left Patters 3 months ago and i don't miss it for a single day.

Where are you now?  I was in Saigon this year and it was a lot more free spirited than current puritanical Thailand.

And the beach vendors will obey - for a few days at least.

And then the Pattaya Police will do nothing more until the Army comes along again and kicks their collective backsides.

There are only two restaurants on CB.  We need more not less.  We need the piles of rubbish taken away and the motor boat disturbing the peace with all day mindless techno pounding out silenced.

Beach Rd. is full of Meth-Heads offering drugs. A wrong word at the wrong moment, especially if they are in a group can set them off. They have the iron bars from sun ☔ handy. Trust me. Many of them "take care" of some of the lower class girls nearby. Any other country we would probably avoid such an area after dark. MS>

In nearly 20 years as a, street wise person,  I have not seen what you are describing on BR any time of day or night.

worth noting that the super-rich branches away from the head office branch  near pratatum/the big C opposite central world trade BKK are franchises and the rate is not as good quite as good as in the main branch

In Jomtien I find Yenjit reasonably competitive here:

    https://www.google.co.th/maps/@12.8794618,100.892464,3a,75y,197h,91.82t/data=!3m6!1e1!3m4!1sl9mJ1MpmAVgPJqGijEQuqw!2e0!7i13312!8i6656

But TT exchange not far behind and more branches. For larger amounts you can sometimes negotiate a slightly better rate especially if you speak a little Thai.

Yenjit on WS... Two TT on second rd just aftet Pattaya Tai

The multis and supplements I buy are available at most of the pharmacies on the darkside.

FYI, the pills I take are Centrum multi, Mega B, Mega C, coenzyme Q10, turmeric (kamin chan) and magnesium - plus I boil a banana for 10 mins most nights for potassium and additional magnesium. Prices are swings and roundabouts, and the variation is so minimal that it's not worth the effort to chase around.

Ubiquinol is supposed  to be the best form of Coq10...but what dosage?

OMG yes. The pollution, trash, rats, open ditches, filth, stink, crappy views, no beach, broken sidewalks, broken pedestrian lights, crappy promenade with no shade or seats, shops closed, deserted malls, sidewalks broken and blocked, overhanging signs, speed bumps, overhanging wires, corrupt police, no metered taxis, arrogant hotel clerks, unsmiling cashiers, crazy driving, overpricing, crotch-grabbing ladyboys, gold necklace & bag snatchers, baht bus ripoffs, deserted condo buildings, deserted malls, Bali Hai desolation, ruined buildings, ruined pier, Waterford, jet ski scams, deserted bars, high bar fines, noise pollution, lack of overpasses on Sukhumvit, constant traffic jam, Chinese, Russians, Indians, Arabs and other non-Brits, runny fried eggs, haircuts with white sidewalls--to mention just a few critical issues. It's TOTAL CATASTROPHE. How can ANYBODY live in this cesspool??? Suicide is the only answer.

If you dont live here - not your business. Your point of view is so negative it indicates clinical depression.  Your view is very one sided and simply  not true because it is not the whole picture.  This is why hundreds of thousands of people visit Pattaya making it one of the most popular resorts/holiday destinations in the world.

I'm happy I read this. I had been planning on visiting Pattaya that week, but having seen that Pattaya will probably be as quiet as Chiang Mai I'll just stay up here.

The street will be mercifully  free of inane music but bars,  pubs, clubs etc will continue as normal as long as the music does not leak out.  Same as it was last october.

Overall, I don't think television is all that good at the moment. Back during the 2014-15 season, I would have said yes.  But a lot of programs have disintegrated. Some only had an idea good to last a season, others just lost their creative punch. The Blacklist has become, well, boring. Black Sails came and went and towards the end was ponderous. Fresh Off the Boat has too much Eddie in it. GoT is gone up its own backside. Homeland's lunatic star should have been shot dead two seasons ago. Penny Dreadful whimpered as it was dying. Hell on Wheels quit and went to China. American Horror Story has become its title. Into the Badlands is where that show's rating are headed. Halt and Catch Fire has become soap opera. The Good Place has already derailed in season 2. And Big Bang just needs to stop. House of Cards sort of describes the entire industry right now.

A few good things persist or at least ended well: Indian Summers should have gone for a few more seasons. Victoria season 1 was good--season 2 not so much. The Crown is fairly good.

All in all, I'd rather watch DVDs of The Rockford Files or Magnum PI.

    This list might help

    People just do nothing
    Not going out
    Shooter
    A lonely place for dying
    Suburra
    Doctor Foster,

    Liar,

    Reillik.
    Slam.
    Stroke
    Dr Foster
    WA 14
    Top Of The Lake
    China girl
    Upstart crow
    Broken
    War peace
    My family and other animals

Sickening..... A better, more reliable, more honest service is available and in the face of competition the Taxi-Thugs who themselves have operated illegally (no meter etc) are supported by the Authorities after they have further proven their propensity for illegal actions in escalating to violence.

All that has happened here is to provide the Taxi-thugs with a greater sense of entitlement for them to continue doing what they do best, ripping of customers, but now do so with a greater sense that they can do whatever they want and get away with it....

Whenever a Pattaya taxi driver offers me service I ask him if he has a metre. When he replies no...I just say politely no metre no taxi....The solution is for these taxi drivers is to join uber.

Speaking of Thai nicknames, I just cannot get myself to call a guy "Boy".

Back home, that would likely result in a slap in the face, and (back in my school days during desegregation) a trip to the principal's office.

More Black sensitivity overreach. In my travels around the world 'houseboy' is a common term for male maids, cleaners and domestic assistants. 'Boy' was a common name/nickname in the UK. You can find it referenced in Evelyn Waugh and possibly Graham Green. The labyrinthine mess of American Identity politics does get everywhere but most of it is nonesense and seems to change on a yearly basis.  Clearly most 'African Americans' have never been to Africa. And using 'People of 'Color' to draw a pretend unity between Asians, South Asians,  Mixed Race, and Latinos to somehow affilliate them and their problems with dissafected Black youth in the USA is ridiculous. In the UK I'm not sure how Jamaicans feel about being called British African...!  Boy are we in a quagmire!

Color copies are always better. You can also use them to check in a hotel etc.. Worth the extra 20-30 baht for color plus laminate of 10-20 baht and away you go. I guess I'm never out at 3am so this doesn't apply to me but no matter, I always get a color copy of the front page and current visa, fold them, and laminate. No big deal. Size of my wallet, not a credit card size. Wears out? Just another 50baht but usually a year later when renew the visa anyhow. If you aren't drunk and aren't carrying drugs it's really not a big deal. Yes, Viagra is a drug FYI.

Drunk? Drugs? Viagra?  On a photocopy thread? Blimey! Talk about obsessive. You have some ax to grind.  Wouldn't like to be at yours on Christmas day! Fun Not!

i looked closer into the 2 words.

หลุม  = (lum)  Cavity, ditch, pothole, hollow

อากาศ  = (agat)  weather , sky, gas, air (outside) climate

Lum is a word you hear all the time at the Issan Rocket festivals where it is used to mean parachute.

Quite right David. Learning to read Thai is not difficult and it helps one's pronunciation immeasurably.

Back to learning one word a day

    สำออย  to whine, grumble ,moan

and then we can have ทำสำออย to spoil or pamper

    สำออย sampoi

Thanks gh, gf had a bad experience on a coach in the UK as a youngster, so isnt a fan of bus/coach travel in the UK, let alone in Thailand! We got a taxi last year from BKK to Ayutthaya and the driver was either beyond tired, or on something and she was a bag of nerves the whole way!   Kind of limits our travelling around LOS, am hoping shes a bit better away from the 3 and 4 lanes of motorway and taxis are a little slower once away from the main cities?

I travel by air , taxi and bus to and around Issan for all the major festivals and have a great time. I'll be going to Surin for the elephant festival this year. Although hotels maybe in short supply dont be fussy and you'll be fine. Although not in Issan I can commend the Monkey feast in Loburi. To get information about regional festivals you need to research deeper than the online TAT but their offices are usually very good. Happy trails...BTW ..try to arrive at least a day early..
