When was in school, it was definitely taught that there were only three races: Mongoloid, Caucasoid, and Negroid. Since then people have tried to add others, but at the root of it, it's true.

Within each race there are ethnicities. Asian is just one type of Mongoloid just as East Indian is just one type of Caucasoid. Arabs are Caucasoid. White people are Caucasoid.

I think you'd do a lot better to refer to the person as Asian or Thai. Mongoloid has also picked up the more derogatory meaning of someone who is deformed.

Not all indians are caucasoid. The southern indians are called dravids and if you care to notice the various indians and not just the "hollywood" type you would notice the vast majority of them don't actually have caucasian like features and those that do are most likely mixed.

Also indians are called asian in the UK because hey what do you know india is in asia.

These terms don't actually mean anything because when someone says caucasian he doesn't mean an arab or an indian he means a white european that is why farang doesn't mean arab in thai.

These very broad type of groupings are useless but people use them or rather americans use them for unknown reasons. Like asian means anyone from asia so middle eastern ppl can be included but they don't mean that. Caucasian means white person aka farang from europe that's why in dating sites they put white caucasian in there to avoid those indians, arabs etc from trying to pass off as white european.

Machines? Why not just say cell phones. Ironically it's the west that did this cause i believe they created these machines. Not only that they are destroying their own culture too. I believe western countries have people that do this too.

Judging by the quality of the Thai educational system, it would appear that bookstores are moot since few of today's students care to read (or are unable to read and comprehend anything with any depth). All today's students want are cell phones and TV. We will see the young Thai's minds turn to mush and with it the hopes of a better tomorrow for Thailand. Well done Thailand!

My students don't even know the latin alphabet, I gave them a worksheet to translate from English to Thai using dictionaries. They managed to finish 15 out of 30 words in one hour and told me that many of the words where not in the dictionary. So I showed them that if they just looked at the right place they would find them all in the dictionary, I checked (dictionary made in Thailand, not Oxford...) while making the handout to be sure as it was about agriculture and not common conversion... And these students are studying in higher vocational education (18+)!

Firstly, that JJ I believe is not a full Thai, but is half Dutch. Perhaps there are farang gangs behind these scams also? I think later JJ became a sort of celebrity and most of that ado was put on for the cameras. I am sure he either applied or was offered parts in movies in the States later on, but not 100% certain on that one?

It said; the world famous Thai jetski scams. If world known than why do tourists still hire these deathtraps and leave themselves vulnerable to the mercies of these thugs?

I would never venture on to such beaches that are controlled by thugs and if tourists begin boycotting these areas than eventually the authorities will grasp the message once the situations starts hitting them where is really hurts, that is in the cash department.

In the end it is the tourists who control the situation not the thugs, simply by avoiding these areas.

This seems counter productive since there is a strong need for this type of service and the people that can do it are very rare in Thailand. Falong could be able to help Thais in many occupations but the work permits are so difficult to get. I do not imagine that any Thai will step in to fill the void created by putting a Chiropractor out of business.

I think the whole 'face' thing is overrated and over estimated and misunderstood.

No one likes to be made to look stupid but westerners are mature enough to accept when they are wrong and understand that its part of life...Asians and Thais in particular just don't have that same level of maturity (in the same way that Children may not)...that is pretty much it....

A friend of mine a few years ago used to tell me some stories about bars he had been into around our small town and tell me about how he was abused or almost assaulted. A few days later I went to the same bars and ordered what I wanted to drink in broken Thai. Never did I have a problem in any of these places and even when they did make a mistake with the bill I just showed them the mistake and made a joke about it. The waitress altered the bill and all was good. I think sometimes bad luck follows certain people if they are unlucky or just push the wrong people. I have been here so far for 10 years and never have I had a problem.

Behave like a tawat and you will be treated like one.

I drink in mainly Thai bars and dont have the problems asociated with farang bars where the ex CIA, Black Ops, Spooks, SAS, SBS, Boy Scouts and Sally Army brigade always think they are up for one last shot at the farang Heavy Weight Championship of the world.

Theres at least one bar on Soi LK Pattaya I could name, but wont, best avoided.

The Thais will usually give the offender at least three chances before they pummel the shit out of him, first off they ignore the remark, then they laugh it off, then they tell him he is drunk go home, after that, well som nam na.

Let's just be clear here - Thais never (or rarely) first one-on-one. Try 20 of his mates too. If you get into a fight, you need to get out of there quickly afterwards, and never to be seen again.

I have noticed that many westerns are often hypocritically self righteous. They will say thais and asians want face but the fact of the matter is that many of them actually get into altercations pretty easily if they feel they have been disrespected. It is not difficult to find such incidents on western news. This shows that western people also like face. On the 1 vs many fight issue. It is the same you can easily find many westerners ganging up on a smaller group or an individual. If you see your buddy in a scrap i am sure you would jump in to help would you stop and consider it might be dishonorable and not aid your buddy? Well there you have it. They often do not see their own behavior that they accuse others of doing. Hypocrisy at its finest.

Because of the exchange rates between the USD and bht the costs would seem much cheaper for you.
