That pretty much sums it up. I've had several young, attractive, well educated Thai women with good jobs ask me where they can meet nice young western men. They've had some experience with Thai men and didn't like it.

Unfortunately for me I don't meet the young criteria, and unfortunately for tourists these women are not interested in being someone's short-time girl friend. Unfortunately for these young ladies there is a shortage of decent, responsible young western men who aren't already taken; I couldn't offer the ladies any names.

Firstly, how could you say that his statement sums it up?

It seems that you are the one who is not educated enough which leads you to have this silly assumption of all "Thai men are <deleted>". You believe this because a few girls said that they have had bad experience with Thai men.

Secondly, just because these girls have had bad experience with a couple of thai men, they instantly assume that all thai men are the same. The mojority of Thais are parochial minded even the educated ones. They all seems to think all farangs are gentlemen or some other stupid assumption. This is obviously not the case; same goes for Thai men. Why have I mentioned this?

For example, Thais seems to think that all black people are scary, bad, have no manners or have bad personality just base on their experience with a few black people. Moreover, the most funny thing of all is that they still discriminate black people(especially black Americans) who is more qualified to teach English than any blonde hair, blue eyes, white skin farangs, and yet they would rather hire a back packer to do the job. I could give you millions of examples.

My point is that these girls that asked you where to meet foreign guys are doing it base on their assumptions nothing else. In addition, Thailand is a third world country. The people will either be narrow minded or naive.

Most thai girls I have talked to have had similar instances with Thai men that you are replying about. Cheating, lazy, insensitive, not romantic, and viewed their relationship with the woman as a boss. The majority of Thai men I have seen and met were mostly lazy and wanting to spend more time with friends than with their wife. They used their extra money for booze and partying or for when they felt you lazy to work or for their mia noi. Case in point my wife's sisters hubby. Works as a teacher and instead of coming home to his family he goes to his friends house. Most nights he is out all night. On weekends he spends his quality family time with a bottle and friends and does nothing to improve his families life or lifestyle. All the money he makes teaching is gone so his wife has to use coal for cooking instead of filling the 140 baht gas tank. The workers at my house spend more time talking and taking breaks than working which is why i refused to pay daily for their jobs.

As for your comments about American blacks of which you either know nothing about them or lived a rich kids life because most are not well educated and those that are for the most are not in Thailand.

Noo, but of course there are some a**hole Thai men out there: same goes everywhere in the world. But if you read the previous comment, he initially said all Thai men are a**holes of which I do not agree, but I do agree on your point on the majortiy of Thai men who are lazy, cheating, incentive and not romantic. But this also applies to many other guys around the world, it is not just confined to Thai men.

Again, as to why I said the majority of Thai girls are narrow minded or niave is that the majority of Thais ,genuinely speaking, are confined to the society that they live in. They will do the same as others, of to which I have referred in my previous comment that a black guy would be discriminated all over Thailand just because he is black. For example, I was at an agency and they told him that he will be paid less because he is black. Tell me please that is not narrow minded. This is not just one case.

As you can see that, this narrow minded mentality is set into every thai society. This is why some Thai girls want to date or marry a farang because they genuinely have had a bad experience with a Thai guy, and have this assumption of all Thai guys are bad and that all western guys are gentlemen, and will treat them well.

Furthermore, you have also mention that I have no idea about black Americans.... As I previously mentioned that "a qualified black American"; to which I was referring to only "qualified black Americans" will not be chosen for the job simply because he is black and a white skin, blonde hair, blue eyes back packer would be chosen for the teaching job. i am just simply stating that for the minority of black Americans who are well qualified are denied their rights. Again another hypocrisy by the all great Thailand. This country is full of hypocrisy. Every Thai hates the truth. Furthermore, even if the truth is revealed in front of their eyes, they still will not submit to the truth.

As a Thai you don't need a work permit nor a visa. You do need a teacher's license. A TEFL isn't any recognized qualification.

I don't know a single school that would hire a Thai national to teach without any form of degree.

You might get private teaching jobs especially if you are bilingual.

Hello guys

First and foremost, I understand that to teach in Thailand you will need a degree to obtain a work permit. But what I would like to know if it's possible for school to employ you if you have a Thai passport and a TEFL but don't have a degree.

Will the process be the same as the English speaking foreigners; in which, you would still need to have a degree to be qualified,or will there be an expection?

If someone could provide me with some personal experience, information or opinions on this matters, I would appreciate it. Thanks!

If they want to reduce road accidents, they should start investing more on safety roads, enforce the law, harsher laws for drinking and driving, make sure people " have obtained their driving license legitimately", and change the driving test so that it's hard to pass. The MOE in my experience is one of the most corrupt departments in thailand. You only have to look at how they employ foreign language teachers. They get money from the government to hire teachers. They then charge students extra for the privilege of learning another language. The agent comes along and pays the school for the contract. The school pays say 40-50k per month the agent then pays the teacher may 30-35k a month for nine and half months. If the teacher is a non native then maybe 20 at most. The other subjects are no better. Teachers often encourage gift giving to ensure a good grade. I could go on but with the standard of education in thailand. The truth is there for all to see.

I agree with you. Also they will not pay for work permits for the foreign teachers; moreover, I assume that the money,which they get to pay for the work permits, they keep for themselves.

These figures only apply to "heads of Thai households". The Farang price is around 5 times higher.

It has nothing to do with being 'farang' or not but solely on your 'influence' - some farang, and many long-term have this influence so pay the same or less than the average Thai. For 'farang' who choose not to integrate(learn language, join clubs etc), personally I think they deserve to pay more.

All the thai have this assumption or know that all farangs are rich or have money. That's why they have to pay more for everything.

My father is a farang and every time we go somewhere with him. He has to pay double the price or maybe more. This is from experince. The only time my father does not have to pay double the price is when we go to our local market.

You obviously haven't had enough experience in Thailand. Try going to a few tourist districts. The majority of time you will pay double. And then try and get a Thai friend ( if you have one ) to buy the same thing from the same shop, but get him to ask for a "Thai price". Garuntee your Thai friend will pay less than you.

People who come to Thailand are often confused. They see a Thai " policeman" in a uniform, and think he is like the police back in their home country. Who are in essence are tasked with stopping crime. The " police" in Thailand are much closer to tax collectors with a gun and who have extremely broad powers. The last thing in the world Thailand needs is more of these tax collectors.

Johnniey, i don't think you have lived in a western society, but anyway..... it's true that some form of corruption do benefits most of us, but you must accept this type of small corruption that benefit us is not a good form of exercise; let me explain why. By creating this type of mentality( by accepting small time corruption is ok) will lead you to an inherent cheating behavior.. like a bad habit if you would like. furthermore, this type of environment will have an effect on people around you, for example your children.As you can see this then becomes everyone's mentality which turns into an vicious cycle. This behavior you can see everywhere in Thailand in the university for example. students don't put enough effort in to their studies, and then turning to their solution(always taking the easy way out) of cheating to get a bachelor degree because he/she is taught from a young age that cheating and lying is acceptable.

This is why Thai's society fails, because the majority of the people are taught that cheating and lying is good. This also goes all the way to the official in the governments, and people see this, by which they think that if the police can cheat why can't we? i could go on and on about the way corruption affects Thai people, but i don't really have time to writing an article.

First they need to define what they think a "quality" tourist is . . . and from what I've seen over the years, their definition just doesn't exist out there.

I am British and often point out to Thai that their concept of rich/quality is based on their concept of appearance.

Go to a British bar and spot the rich/ (quality) person by appearance. Very difficult when all are dressed casually.. Check their vocabulary, a big clue!
