  1. A off topic and unhelpful post plus the resultant replies to it have been removed.

A 30 day visa exempt entry can be extended for 30 days at the Prromenada immigration office. It can be applied for during the last week of the entry.

    Thanks Joe,

We can extend the anywhere right?.

My friend arrived yesterday, knowing he will stay beyond the 30 days, it would have been more convenient to extend the visa at the promenada as I know where it is etc etc.

If he can extend anywhere (which I am sure he can) do you have a list of immigration offices in Thailand with addreses?

  2. Not sure what you mean by child dependency.

If you are a parent to a Thai child you get a single entry non-o visa based upon that with only you name on the birth certificate at an embassy or consulate. Some will also issue a multiple entry non-o visa.

To apply for a multiple entry non-o visa at some locations or to apply for a one year extension of stay based upon being the parent of a Thai immigration you will need to legitimize your parenthood. See: How To Gain Parental Rights As A Father

In bold, not required in Penang. For one year non O they are asking for details of Thai Bank account and copies signed by the Thai parent also.

  3. I have a friend who is married to a Thai. He works overseas and returns to Thailand on a regular basis using VE entries. He can never stay longer than 28 days.

This man was challenged only once by an IO. He explained his situation provided evidence of being employed abroad and demonstrated access to adequate finances.

He continues to use VE entries and has never been challenged again.

Anecdotal - yes - but also true !

Correct me if I am wrong but would n't denying your friend entry to visit his Thai wife be against international law as it would be denying him his right to visit his wife?

  4. "Of course Thailand is concerned about their guest's funds in the banks. People who have little to no funds are a liability for the country when it comes to public hospital medical expenses, incarceration expenses, crime concerns, etc."

And yet Thailand is not concerned by what some government employees* have in their bank accounts or how such massive amounts were obtained and the possible criminal activity involved or the negative impact that may have?

*government employees or rather wealthy citizens who have never been employed or worked a day in their lives. Or military personal that amassed a 597M THB fortune while on a paltry salary, by comparative measure.

As for the comment about hospital expenses, immigration could quite easily oblige travel insurance or medical insurance to cover their stay. No insurance, No visa or no visa extension or 90 day report rejected! Simple.

  5. Love it! So Thai immigration is assuming that every foreigner uses social media and communicates in English on such sites and not their native language.

Loving those silly comments, to the effect of "if you don't like it go back your own country, Thailand is still great place".

It's not a case of Thailand being a great place to stay (or not). We may be aliens/residents/immigrants/tourists/whatever/spouses & parents of Thai nationals . There are still laws that Thailand really should adhere to, civil rights, privacy, human rights and so that do apply to foreigners. Just because we are not from Thailand it does not mean that laws do not apply to us or for us.
