Basic assistant rendered to a road accident has to start with securing the parameter

of the accident area with red cones and lights and people to direct traffic around

the spot where the crew are working to help, non of the above ever has been set

up to the best of my knowledge and from what I saw in other road accidents...

In other countries rescue workers are trained to take safety into account at the scene of all accidents !    But hey! This is Amazing Thailand!

So sad to see innocent rescue people die because they haven't been given some sort of basic safety training.

Well sweating is body's way of cooling down, and remember that most Thai people don't naturally sweat as much as us Farangs.
So there is a certain logo as to why hot countries such as Thailand have a spicy cuisine.

Sent from my iPad using Thailand Forum - Thaivisa mobile app

I also read somewhere recently that eating hot spices and chillies actually kill bacteria in the food  ,...therefore making it possible to eat safely things that to westerners are a no no!

I guess you were not scammed

Definitely a scam!!  But ,.The wording does  allow for a misunderstanding ,..especially As Most Thais that can actually read English do not fully understand it's. Meaning!

They probably read only the first sentence which states no liquids over 100mls.

What I find frustrating is I will find a product I like and then when I go back to buy it again it's all sold out and stores never seem to re-order anything.  A few years ago I found a 2 seat dining set that was perfect for small condos--good quality table, very comfortable chairs that swiveled, good price.  Bought 2 sets but when I went back to buy again the store owner told they were very popular and all sold.  Well, hmm, if they are very popular and selling like hotcakes why not order some more?

Makes perfect sense to us,...but Thai logic is just not the same as western thinking!

  5. I don't regret shipping ny stuff from Aus.

I definitely  couldn't buy most things here of the same quality !

second hand  items don't have much value in Aus. ,...everyone wants a bargain!

customs was fast tracked with a bit extra tea money!  My container was never opened and inspected by customs!

Agree. I transfer largish sums twice a year to a Thai bank account to finance my living costs here. The Centrelink pension is paid into an Australian bank account.

To try and make it clear: If you are overseas for more than six weeks, you lose the pension SUPPLEMENTS, about 8-10% of the total pension. The BASE pension is still paid if you have resided in Australia for more than 35 years.

DO NOT get married here unless you enjoy a world of angst from Centrelink.

As usual, Ubon Joe's advice is sound.

You actually need to have WORKED in Australia for 35 years!

RIP Mr Melzer. Once the tire of his bike touched the foot of the wall, it was game over in terms of control.

Dave66: the footage doesn't cover the initial hit to the wall so one can't really know what happened but to me it seems likely that his front tire touched the wall and then the bike made some sudden strong movements and threw him off. I don't think it would be easy holding on to the handlebars under these conditions and the forces pushing him outward are enough in even such a relatively slight bend. Also his left leg surely touched the wall which causes quite some pain I'm sure and also puts force on his body to move over left.

BTW again (like nearly always) the bike identification is completely wrong. It's not 1200cc and not even a Yamaha. It looks like a 400cc Honda CB400, about 20 years old. Not sure why they are obsessed with reporting cc numbers and brand names and then get it in so many cases wrong.

I haven't taken much notice before but it appears .the foot design of the barrier looks too high and is not bike friendly!  Once tyre contact was made it would be game over !  sadly mr  Melzer didnt get a second chance to learn from his experience. RIP

As an old EMT, I would like to point out to some of the responders here, you are jerks

Ambulance should ALWAYS have right of way, in fact you should pull over even if it is coming from the opposite direction....

Remember, likely one day it Will be your sorry patute on the gurney....

Anyone who obstructs an ambulance should be jailed and car impounded for a good long stretch

I agree ,,..all emergency vehicles should be given right of way!

Not all drivers are selfish and ignorant,....some are just totally unaware of surrounding traffic ,..and their mirrors are just for decoration!,.....really some drivers just don't have the brain cells to figure it out!

So it looks like the are not taking the reduction in carnage

on Thai roads seriously, I thought after the mass deaths

and injuries over the New Year, they were going to get tough

on issuing driving licenses, but make it easier !

    regards worgeordie

You should already know by now,..those with the power to make a positive change to the road carnage don't really care about others!  Maybe  when it affects them personally they may feel some compassion. .They  also really just cannot see what simple measures need to be implemented to start reducing road deaths.

Sadly the reality is ,...it will be many years before anything changes.

For those of us falangs that drive here,..we all just need to be aware of the ME FIRST attitude of Many Thai drivers  and drive accordingly ?

Have spent the last year setting up exactly this.. From a few years ago buying 5 rai for the grand villa and maybe a bunch of rental homes around a pool (estimated 30 mil inward) to dropping off extensions back to a ME visa, going and setting up a fall back home in the west, starting a biz back there, and the full lifeboat option to be on a plane in a day or two without any real interruption to my life just in case..

What I discovered this summer was

    1) the UK is probably cheaper, for the life I lead and the things I consume these days than Thailand is

    2) theres sooo much to do that I had forgotten I loved (track days, racing calendar, flight lessons, music festivals, bands, etc)..

    3) making money is so easy back there that not only is it not costing me anything, its set to me making me multi 100k doing it.

I am younger than some at 43, been 'retired' here since I was 28.. Allowed myself to become brainwashed by every expats complaints of trips home, the self validation of 'how great it was to be back' or holiday makers gushing over how lucky it is to be here.. Sure it may be fine at 60 to wind down and live slow in a semi decent climate but this last year has me enthused with the action of being back in europe, my only problems involve the wife / travel / our dog / etc..

Of course its cold and dark in the UK now.. So I am here.. Counting the days until the winter is over to get back. I am really wondering if I wouldnt do far better having a villa in portugal for the winter rather than here. The biz I have started can easily pay for that cost without touching any of my nestegg.

Many of us expats only dream about having that much wealth at your age,... well done we are all so proud of you!

Having been here for 19 years, I have seen this modus operandi of government before, and not just in relation to immigration rules.

Ministers are informed of a need for a sector of the economy or problem needing to be solved. Thailand is very top-down in management style. Minister gets some proposals through cabinet BEFORE they have been properly thought through.

Relevant departments are then ordered to put into effect the changes but there is no infrastructure. Civil servants on the ground have no process notes, no training, nobody to refer to. There are unintended consequences because it was not worked out in advance. The public is greatly inconvenienced. Government officers take out their frustration on members of the public implying they are stupid or criminal for not following the brand new regulations.

Eventually all the mayhem is passed back up the chain and a workable system is cobbled together in the first 12 months with luck.

With regards to this new visa (??) we are not in the initial 'complete ignorance' stage. Planning occurs AFTER the launch in contrast to other countries.

The people taking the responsibility for making decisions in this country sure could learn a lot from other countries,... but seem to prefer not to take this route and  would rather battle it out on there own.

Presently I would guess about 20 years behind many other countries ,...and sad to say but they will never really catch up until their mindset changes!

As far as I understand it is for the owner of the hotel you stay in or the owner of the house you are renting to fill the TM30 form and bring it to the immigration. So this guy may have been fined for someone's else "mistake".

    It is quite possible!.

I have checked into several hotels in Thailand after booking online in my name,..at the check in desk the staff were not interested in registering me, they always asked for my Thai wife's ID,...I really think that they just can't be bothered doing the foreign registration !

  16. I know we all like to compare home country currency to the Baht,...but ,..if the exchange rates were 1 for 1 ,....none of us would be laughing about cheap bills.

Just think many Thai people only earn 300baht a day!!,....if power and water bills were much higher these people wouldn't have much left to buy food!!

Most prices are all relative to income.

So really the only fair way to compare a bill or service is to calculate it as a percentage of average income earnings.
