The last time I was there, collection was on the ground floor. If you can hobble in from the road, you should be fine.

Its all on the ground floor with one exception . For some reason they now ask for a photocopy of your laos entry stamp . not the laos visa but the small stamp which of course you do not have until you enter laos . Not many people know this until they get to the consul and have to copy it and they have a printer which is up a few flights of stairs but you can get the touts to copy it for you outside the gate

I am sure same day not possible.

I turned up there once on a thursday with a swiss girl i met at the border to find we did not check the holidays and it was shut on fri and monday so if we left our passports there we could not pick them up until tuesday . No problem for me as i live 20 mins from the border but she was on holiday and had a hotel in bangkok and a flight back from udon the next day . She begged the staff at the consul to do her a visa that day but they refused .
Went outside and the touts said they could get her one for 5000 baht . She did not have the full money but they would not drop the price saying they have to pay the consul 4500 and they get 500 . I lent her the money and a couple of hours later she got her visa. I went back to thai got a 15 day exemption and came back in 2 weeks , no problem . She sent me the money no problem .
Also beindgswiss she did not have to pay the $35 for a laos visa . free to swiss nationals as they have a free hospital in vientianne ?

So their fee is 800 baht. You're right, not really worth it to avoid a 1 hour queue.

no their fee is 1800 baht plus the visa fee .A guy in my hotel about 100 metres from the consul did it . Bit pointless as he sat outside the hotel having a beer he could just queue .Never been  as busy as people say i usually get there for 8am and have finished by 11am . Nobody there an friday as you would have to wait until monday to get your visa .
Lots of wrong info about closing . They close the gates   but the people already inside get seen .  I was there until 2pm a few years back when the filipas turned up .They do not close the counters when it is time to shut , just the gates . Mostly by 11am not many people left

  4. I think you mean the thai consul as the embassy is in a different place and does not issue visas . I been going there of on and on for 10 years . Most i ever seen was about 300 when a lot of filipinos turned up on buses .Longest i waited to hand  passport in was about 4 hours but usually 1-2 hours . e easy really . There are a lot of agents who for a fee  do it for you but not worth the money

That's never happened to me in 15 years either! I tell you what, if you've got a vendor who is overcharging you and telling you that they are just because you're a farang, you're doing something wrong somewhere.

Only come on her very couple of \weeks as i have a life outside thaivisa.
i used to live in west london and on rugby days used to drink in the prince of wales pub in earls court . When i went for a beer they used to try to charge me the extra for the fans but when i said i lived ther they dropped the price . When i first went to live in tenby  i paid less for my beer in the winter and found that they thought i was a tourist when i first went there in the summer . Ripped off by taxi driver in new york . Ripped off when i first went to germany and i lived there for 7 years . SO you mr chiang mai are saying one of the most corrupt countries in the world has never overcharged you. I will not say what i think i let it up to the thai vis member to decide whhat type of person you are

Wow.. you sure do have a lot of bad luck there.  You must be doing something wrong.  Maybe you look like you are super rich or something?

I have never had this happen.  I have been here more than 10 years full time.

You are just telling lies . It happens all the time  but not where i live . Perhaps you should get out more . I drive a tuk tuk . Yesterday went to a noodle shop charged me 45 baht but the price was 35 baht which is what they charged the 2 thai guys i was with . When i asked why she charged me more she just said you are farang . I sometimes go to the same shop and depends who serves me how much i pay . I DO NOT CARE so dont call me a whinger the amount is mostly tiny  but when it is 100% more i am not happy.
Do you think anyone on here will believe you have not been overcharged once in 10 years in thailand .They all now know you are a liar

  7. Sorry but the op sounds like a sanctimonious get . I live off the beaten path and have never been to pattaya or phuket or many tourist area but i still get ripped off . He knows absolutely nothing about thailand .
A couple of examples from outside udon thani .  Small can of beer chang , phen , 90 baht . real price 35 baht , nongkhai road 70 baht same beer . Asked the price of  a hat nong khai market 300 baht , my wife asked 5 minutes later 150 baht . In a shop landmark udon thani . Asked how much for phone screen cover  . Girls says 300 baht , asked a boy in the same shop he said 150 baht . When i asked the girl why she told me 300 she said you are farang , you have lots money.
Bought a sheet of ply a few weeks ago with my wife 450 baht , went back alone this week 650 baht . I told him the correct price and i paid 450 baht
Its built into thai culture and is everywhere . Perhaps  he is to ignorant to know he is paying a higher price .
I dont get ripped off as i have been here 10 years and know the prices

You sure it is a birds nest and not your wig been blown off :)

Well i am a slap head but no not my wigs but may use as a wig as they were not much good as nests. The last nest that fell with the eggs in is already being rebuilt .
I dont think predators as right outside my house and the dead chicks were still there being eaten by ants . did see a cobra get a frog a few metres away but i dont think they climb trees .
I had a thought though . These birds have been nesting in the side of the shelter of my house for years and these birds are probably last years young and no room at the inn but they only know how to build house nests and not tree nests  or maybe i have had to much leo and should give up thinking

  9. I have about 3 rai of land which is  full of big trees and lots of nests as i like birds and encourage  them  to nest there . Very strange this week 5 nests have falling out of the trees for no apparent reason except bad nest building ?There have been no winds or anything . The nests are all the same just made of grass by a small sparrow .
The first nest i ignored as i thought the birds had gone but the next 4 nests 3 had young and the one in the photo had 4 eggs . All the nests are right on the end of branches  but  the grass does not seem to be bound or entwined around the branches ? Never seen this before . Anyone any ideas ?nest .JPG

  10. Hi , my wifes daughter came to me this morning to help with a person from london she had been chatting to on facebook . He said he sent her a parcel with $3,200 worth of gifts . She then had a phone call from a woman in phuket asking her to pay 28,000 baht to send her the parcel.
This guy was still on facebook so i started chatting in her place . He could not spell and was obviously a scam so i played with him for a bit . His so called name was eric donaldson and he told me he came from " man chester city , quensland , london "
I told him i was the police and was tracking him and with a few choice words he disappeared. Easy for me to see it was a scam and as my stepdaughter had no money could not send any but i am sure a few thai women without help may be tempted to send money to this scum who steals of the poorest people.
I doubt if it is his photo but if he is stupid enough to think manchester and qeeunsland is in london you never know so this is his facebook page if anyone recognises him

Why on earth would you expect 10 year old posts to be currently correct?

Why on earth would i expect a post on thai visa to be 10 years old ? I never checked the posting date even even if i did i would assume it has not been changed because the info was still correct .
Besides that it was incorrect 10 years ago , why is it not updated or deleted ?There are still people reading it and getting stopped at the border even today thinking they have on days grace ! Nearly all the info on that visa page is years old .

No my dear you went late you didn't like the fact you was chaises like a naughty school boy so you call the cop obnoxious. Now because I point this out to you you turn it around to me calling me the same 5555 . You were at fault end of. In fact you was a criminal you commuted an offence in the eyes of the law. Next time I bet you go the day before.

This post was about a guy overstaying and i gave my opinion and experiences . The only point to your post was to slag me off WHY?  What have i ever done to you ? Your post had nothing about the topic . I honestly do not know why people like you  on this forum just post to be abusive . Must be a sickness
    .
I am not a criminal in my eyes . The only reason i was late was on the home page of thai visa under overstay , it states you are allowed 1 day overstay and i believed that if it is on thai visa it must be true .
I have a police friend who works on that bridge and he tells me nearly everyday there are guys turning up believing thet they have 1 days grace because they read it on this forum as macthehat obviously thought .
5 hours and all the name calling was obnoxious not matter what you may think for something that most places takes minutes.
just a point which puzzled me . I keep reading stay away from the police and only deal with immigration but when i was at the bridge after giving my passport to the passport control , i was then taken to the police station and dealt with by the police  not immigration ?

Well, I have sat on a bus from Udon to Nong Khai at least a dozen of times. About half of the times the bus has been stopped at the checkpoint and everyone on it had to show ID/passport. They flip through the passport, but I am not sure if they actually check the stamps.

But as I said, they mainly are looking for drugs and illegal immigrants, so it makws sense that they raid the south going vehicles more often. Also, to be honest, I think they are doing this more rarely nowadays. I recall a weekend, when I had to pass the checkpoint 4 times (2 on motorbike, 2 on bus) and got checked every single time), but now maybe 2 years without any checks...

Anyway, good luck to the OP.

Yeh the only time i was checked was either when he coup happened or the bomb went off in bkk but that was army not the customs police . That checkpoint is not manned by the police but guys in a sort of red and brown  uniform with vehicles with a lot of red on them . It is about 15kms from me so i pass there often . Most times i never see anyone . They also sometimes set up a quick one near my house . They have a guy sitting  in the trees with a radio telling them which ones to stop a 2 kms down the road . But again only heading south.Again never stopped me and having watched them they only seem to pull in specific vehicles, sometimes only 1 in an hour so i think both checkpoints get info from the bridge on suspicious vehicles . I dont think he has any problem there a unless something happens and they are looking for someone .

  14. Dont know what happend there . Clicked once  but saved for 10 minutes than gave me 5 posts the same ?
maybe but i have just been to the thai visa homepage and clicked on overstay . First the info is so out of date ! Why is it not updated ? It says posted by egroeg 14 /12 2006 i copied this from the page
" If you overstay by one day, there is no charge. After that, it’s 500B per day, so 2 days is a 1,000B fine, 3 days 1,500B etc… "
It again fails to stress this is only at the airport not at a border crossing and says there is not charge for the first day .
" Paying the fine is simple. When going through Immigration, they will notice the overstay and take you to a desk to pay it, taking about 5 minutes in all. Fines can also often by paid in advance at any Immigration bureau. You will not be jailed it you volontarily clear up your overstay. "

Took me 5 hours and i dont think it is a good idea to go to immigration to pay in advance . This is massive misinformation which could lead to the arrest of people

I really do hope that the police roadblocks are all closed during your travel to Nong Khai. There is at least one between Udon and Nong Khai, where they stop all traffic and check everyone's ID/passport. There is a chance that they will look at the stamps as well and arrest you for overstay.

I know there are such checkpoints also near CM, they all are 20-100 km from Burmese and Laos borders. Mainly the officers are looking for illegal immigrants from these two nations and drug trafikers, but really will check everyone, on buses, vans, private cars.

But as I said, hopefully they are not active tomorrow. Best of luck!

WRONG , WRONG WRONG AGAIN . I live on the road between nong khai und udon . I pass that fixed road checkpoint at least twice a month for the last 8 years and have never been stopped. They do not usually stop vehicles going north to laos but stop the vehicles coming from laos looking for smuggled goods . They never stop buses or any public transport and i have rarely seen them stop anyone except laos plates . I went to nong khai yesterday and nobody at the checkpoint both ways

"Arrived to late at the consul  ( which is why the obnoxious cop kept us there )"

Nothing to do with the fact it was your fault the policeman kept you there then. All the cops fault as usual. Poor farang victimised by thai police

Can you read ?   I never said it was their fault . It was my fault for believing the info on this forum was correct . I have read lots of times that you are allowed one days grace ON THIS FORUM . It is incorrect  . You are only allowed 1 day at the airport not at border crossings .
It was only 7 hours since my visa ran out , hardly an overstay !I have seen people at the airport pay 20,000 baht and get through in 10 minutes . There was no need to keep me there for 5 hours while he played with his phone .He told us he would keep us there until it was to late to go to the consul. Paying 500 baht and getting a receipt took about 2 minutes. He then gave us a lecture telling us how bad we were and that we were ciminals and thailand did not want people like us in the country.
At that time i had been in thai for 7 years . married wth a son, never been without a visa except that 7 hours . Never been in any trouble in my life but was being called a criminal. Yes he was obnoxious the same as you . I think you have been to deep and need to surface for a while

    Sanctions

It is illegal to overstay your visa as it is a violation of immigration rules. Needless to say, you are also breaking the thai law. Overstaying is sanctioned under thai immigration procedures. Even if you overstay for just one day, legal actions could be taken up against your person. Usually though when you overstay for one day, it doesn’t carry a fine with it. The fine of 500 baht per day of overstay only begins after the second day, so if your stay expired on the 15th of March and you only reported to the immigration by the 20th, your fine will only be 4 days of overstay or 2,000 baht.

However, just avoid getting yourself caught by the immigration police at all means. If by any reason they will stop you in a random check-up on your way to the airport, they will imprison you regardless of the length of time you overstayed, even if it’s just one day! You’ll be confined in a jail until you can secure your flight outside Thailand or you can provide the money in payment for the fine. It remains a question though about you fixing things up when you’re actually inside the jail, in that case just keep hoping that some friend or lawyer might assist you through the ordeal. Amnesty International observed that thai jails are “cruel and degrading”, so as much as you can do not attempt to overstay in the first place.

Looks like you will be held in custody until all monies and exit flight is paid.

WRONG WRONG WRONG AGAIN . Why so much misinformation on this forum .?
I read this before about 1 days grace and as my visa run out on a sunday i thought i would got to vientiane on the monday . Arrived at the crossing 7 am . 7 hours after my visa ran out . Was arrested and put in a room with about 5 other guys who had done the same thing . Was kept for 5 hours , Paid 500baht given a right rollocking by a thai cop who told me you only get 1 days grace at the airport as sometimes your flight is after midnight but your visa can run out before midnight .
Arrived to late at the consul  ( which is why the obnoxious cop kept us there )and had to spend an extra day. GET your FACTS right before you post as it can  make it bad for somebody who follows your advice as in my case .

  18. Not difficult to work out . I was told this on this forum when i went to laos when my thai visa run out on a sunday. Got stopped arrested and kept there for 5 hours with another4 farangs all who thought they would get 1 day . I was there at 7 am so am so only 7 hours overdue Fined 500 baht but no stamp .
was told by the thai police that at the airport you might be there at 10pm but your flight is after midnight so you are allowed one day at the airport because of this reason and no stamp . At the border you cross straight away so no need for this 1 day grace

  19. Most Thai people who work for a living pay taxes that financially support the government provided services, like maintainance of parks and other attractions

Most farangs living in Thailand that I know pay no taxes to support the Thai government at all.

Is it really discrimination to be expected to pay for the services you use?

I know many farangs are here to TAKE ADVANTAGE of Thailand and the lower cost of living in Thailannd...but please, be reasonable!

seriously, some farangs have really earned the nick name " Cheap Charlie"!

You really need to think before youpost. Very few thais pay tax . In my village only teachers and government workers pay tax. None of the street vendors or rice farmers etc pay tax . When i had an internet cafe in my wifes name tax was 600baht a year .

Tax in thailand is raised on goods which is why some thing are so expensive. The more money you spend in thailand the more tax you pay which is why a flight to uk cost 100% more from bkk to london than london to bkk and why a tin of beans is 70 baht in thai and 10 baht in uk. Tax on beer is very high and as i dink a lot of it and probably spend at least three times more than most people in my village i pay more tax to support the thai government than most thais.

  20. Not being hypocritical. You were a soldier. That is different. You didn't have a choice. These guys were basically well paid rent-a-cops.

I think if there were mitigating circumstances, we would have heard about them.

Yes i understand that but even the uk army has civilains working for it in various roles and i am not condoning what they done but i do not believe governments have the authoriy to kill innocent men women and children which they do on a daily basis and civilians are not . Should not the law be equal to all and if a drone attack which has happened kills a whole family they are equally as guilty as blackwater who may or may not have feared for their lives while the drone pilot has no such fear

  21. Just curious, what kind of NON O gets a 60 day extension ?

    imm O 90 days based on marraige gets you a 60 ext./

The immigration people are contemptable evil people who abuse the power they have over you . They know if they say no you have to perhaps as in my case leave your home and your family.

I live between udon thani and nong khai so easy fro me to go to laos for 90 day imm o visa which i did the first time a few yaers ago.

Went to udon imm for a 60 day ext and the well known corrupt woman said she could not give me an ext as my wife was not with me. I pointed out that this was an ext to a visa i already had and my wife was not in laos when i got the visa or was not with me in uk when i got a 12 month imm o multi so why would she need to be with me for the ext.

Told her i would come back with my wife and she replied "give me 500 bahts and i will do for you" I paid her and got my 60 days

Next time came with my wife but this time she told me only allowed one 60 day ext per year (no such rule)but if i gave her 1000baht she would do for me. I refused so she refused my visa and basically was making me leave thailand just for 1000baht. Is she not evil?

Thought i would try nong khai imm office . Got there and the infamous police seargent told me i had to go to udon.

I told him i was refused only allowed 1 a year (which he replied rubbish no such rule )and she wanted a 1000 baht. He asked me did i want to complain i said no i just want a visa. He phoned udon imm and told her to give me a visa. Went back and she said AGAIN ! she would only give me 30 days unless i gave her 500baht . My normaly placid wife then lost her temper with her and i got my 60 days but was 300kms on a motorbike and a lot of hassle and this woman is still doing now and a lot more than she asked me for.

First time i went to vientiane for visa i wanted 1year imm o multi . Their website says they do it , had the form and the price i phoned the MFA in bangkok and was told can get one at any consul outside thailand which was the correct rule . Any embassy or consul outside thailand should issue you with a 1 year imm o multi entry visa as long as you meet all the criteria. Went to vientiane , refused when i showed her the document from the thai MFA saying they shoudl she replied they say i do , I SAY i don`t .She personally doesn`t and still does not obey the rules of her government which is why some place like savankhet do and other places do not.

How can these little evil people do this i have no idea.

  22. Myself i dont really understand . Having spent some time in in the army in northern ireland the fear when you are walking the street knowing the ira scum could shoot you or explode a bomb at any time was extreme and was easy to shoot someone by mistake.

I imagine was a lot worse for these guys in iraq so sitting in your armchairs , same as the judge and condemming them is easy. To be there not so easy

To me if a pilot drops a bomb and kills innocent children how is he not guilty of the same act ? Basically it is lawfull for the armed forces paid by governments to kill innocent women and children which even today they are doing but not for merceneraries paid by the same governments . Very hipocritical

  23. I tell you something for the dog lovers who hurt their dogs . Aircon is not good for dogs , better just shade with a good fan and lots water. I used to be a gardener for over 20 yrs and obviously my pet hate dog mess on the garden . I used to do poor and rich peoples gardens.

Poor peoples gardens dog mess hard and dry dogs never many medical problems except fleas mainly fed on dry biscuits and tins of dog meat . Rich peoples and silly dog lovers gardens , dog mess just a mound of runny horrible smelly dog faeces . Dog always have a bad stomach always in the vets , always sick and most die early Killed by their owners diet. Fed on human food including steakes pork , ice cream chocolate etc. Not good for dogs . Ice cream or choclate is one of the most obnoxious horrible food anyone could give a dog and will make a dogs life horrible but the nutters till do it thinking if they like it their dog must even though it could kill their dog .

Sleep with a dog or let it lick you. Disgusting . Hope you dog lovers never complain about dirty food places in thailand.

My pet hate a dog walking up to my kids and licking them in the face or sniffing my privates. 2nd pet hate the dog owners screaming when i kick their dog.

As i said before you dog lovers dont love the dogs or you would not have one in thailand you need them for your own inadiquate lifes to fill some gap.Is it only a dog will sleep with you.
