  1. Same story I heard about a Dutch man: house of 10 million, a block of rooms he rented out (worth about the same). Lost everything to his gambling wife (had 2 kids together) who borrowed many millions form loan sharks.

They were married for 25 years.

Now he is living in a room in the house of 1 of his adult sons. He doesn't have any state pension because he has been living outside Holland during most of his live. And his personal pension was in this block of rooms. Totally bankrupt, nothing left !

  2. A very dangerous precedent has been set by allowing people in this way. You should have seen the triumfant faces and V-signs the economic fortuneseekers were displaying when arriving in Munich.

All " refugees" should be registered and interned in the first country in the EEC they come to, period. If need be stronger measures than just teargas should be used. Islamic " refugees" refusing red cross packages, refusing help in general until they get what they want (ie to go to Germany) makes me extremely angry.

There is room, food and shelter at our eastern borders, if even Turkey, a safe haven already, is not good enough for these fortune-seekers.

Due to austerity measures in Holland for the last 7 years our pensioners are thrown out of old age homes, to fend for themselves, demented or not. The ones that are allowed to stay get a bath once a week, and 48 hour " diapers". Thousands of dutch people are homeless, many tens of thousands are actively searching (some for over 10 years) for a place to live.

There is no room, nor willingness (73 % says NO) to welcome more fortuneseekers - especially islamists- into our country. And I'm sure the same goes for Germany, no matter what "mother Merkel" is stating.

Quite disgusting to make a link between war victims and austerity measures in Holland. Those austerity measures have been implemented before the big waves of refugees arrived in Europe.

Most are war victims from Iraq, Syria and Eritrea (harsh dictatorship of Isaias Afwerki in Eritrea).

    https://www.washingtonpost.com/news/worldviews/wp/2015/06/12/the-brutal-dictatorship-the-world-keeps-ignoring/

It is weakness from Europe and USA not to send troops to Syria to make an end to the war.

Weakness not to thrown the dictator in Eritrea of his thrown.

Indeed there are fortune seekers from some West-African countries, they should be sent back.

  3. Seriously? The reward was given to the police? Why does that not surprise me.

The police should never be allowed to benefit.

    You are right.

But... it is NOT public money (e.g. from the Department of Justice), but (according to this article) from Royal Thai Police commissioner Pol Gen Somyot Poompunmoung and his friends as private persons. So it is up to them what do do with it. (How they made their millions is another matter.)

But in any normal western country this would not happen, because police is supposed just to do their job without financial rewards. Compliments, maybe promotion,an/or a bottle of wine... nothing more!

  4. '"Deputy Mayor Ronakit Ekasingh chaired an emergency meeting called Aug. 7 after government ministries forwarded letters from India and other countries complaining of continued extortion and intimidation by jet ski vendors who Pattaya City Hall repeatedly has failed to regulate."

    Failed to regulate ?!

In a normal country those jet ski scammers would have lost their license already after their first scam !!!

  5. Im Dutch.. so should have seen that one coming and i did not..

But those kind of ppl are crazy the shop making the curtains invested spend time and 1 day late.. just stupid to cancel because of that

    I am also Dutch...

Look at this sentence: What is police in Jomtien-Beach than good for? (In Dutch: Waar is de politie in Jomtien dan goed voor?)

    And this one:

So I took 3 photos with my mobile phone. (In Dutch: Dus nam ik 3 foto's met mijn mobiele telefoon.)

    And this one:

...and then my girlfriend called the local police in Jomtien-Beach, (In Dutch: ... en toen belde mijn vriendin de lokale politie in Jomtien Beach.

As you see the construction of these sentences resembles Dutch.

I wonder: will the shop owner go to the police to put some pressure on Rolf???

  6. Agree that German are in the wrong country if they think that they can call the police for such stupid reasons as they do at home...

That goes for everyone, not only Germans.

But come one people here love putting down Germans, forgetting they are the best Economy in the EU and make quality products.

Anyway the police was right this was just a domestic dispute. You can't just cancel if a delivery is one day late. Not even in the Netherlands where I am from. Would certainly not considered fair.

Im sure its the same in germany

He is NOT from Germany, but from the Netherlands!! 100% sure.

    - his first name Rolf

    - the construction of the sentences

And check an earlier post: he also has refused to pay management fees for the resort he lives in!!!

And Rolf: you have a contract! 1 day late is NOT a legal reason to cancel an order! In my opinion, your 'crime' is worse than theirs. First impression: they look like kind, good people.

In most countries the next applies:

It’s likely you’ve made a firm agreement to buy if you’ve:

    • signed an agreement, or
    • agreed a delivery date, or
    • paid a deposit or the full amount.

Once you’ve made a firm agreement with a trader, you have a legal contract with them, even if there is nothing in writing.

So be a man, pay the lousy 10,000 (??) baht for the curtains. The shop owner can not sell these curtains anymore... 2-3 days of work for nothing.

You ought to be ashamed of yourself !!!

TV members: shall we do some 'crowd funding' to pay a lawyer to force this guy to pay?

We have the pics of the shop owners, probably from Thepprasit Road, so easy to find.... --> easy to find mr Rolf !!!

(Even better: addresses are in one the pics.... anyone who can translate so almost full identity of mr Rolf is revealed?)

  7. Since about half a year can't get Thai price (= free) anymore by showing my Thai driving license at Floating Market, Pattaya .
Same for going up the Pattaya Waterpark Tower.

Underwater World Pattaya can still get Thai price when showing Thai driving license

  8. Last year, Euro was 44.5 for one baht, because of the problems caused by red and yellow shirts ; maybe, if other political problems happen, we can have 40 bahts for one euro, but not 44 anymore

Personnally, as many Europeans, I hoped for a grexit ... but for people who think Euro will not last long, it will be difficult to leave Euro, it's more than money, it's a symbol ; many problems to solve, but we are attached to €

in the list given above, the guy who gave northen countries forgot Italy, France and Benelux : you can't think of Euro without these Euro founders

    That was I.

On purpose I left out France and especially Italy !!!

Those countries do NOT have budgeting discipline, especially Italy.

Both countries have a budget deficit more than agreed.

And BeNeLux is not a country: I did mention Belgium, Netherlands and Luxembourg

  9. Thank the Lord us Brits never joined it. At the time we were told we were doomed if we didn't ,just like they keep telling us we are doomed if we leave the EU ,didn't believe them then ,don't believe them now

Great Britain did more quantitative easing than USA and EU!!!! British pound went down from around 70 to 52 baht, which means: you get ~26% baht less.

Euro went down from roughly 46 to 37: ~20% less.

Between March 2009 and January 2010 the Bank bought £200bn of assets, equivalent to about 14% of GDP to help breathe life into the UK economy following the credit crunch. Then in October 2011, faced with growing warnings of a double-dip recession and a eurozone crisis, policymakers voted to resume QE and pump another £75bn into the financial system, increasing the QE budget to £275bn.

But I agree: 1 currency for so many different countries has been a stupid idea

The stupid idea was letting Greece (and Italy, Portugal, Cyprus, etc) fudge their figures so that they were allowed in, without actually dealing with their productivity issues and huge public sector and the related over-spending.

The Euro itself was actually a good idea... (I still think)

That's what I mean with "many different countries"

Euro for countries with more or less equal economy,~ equal working spirit, ~equal pension age, ~equal fiscal regime,~ equal disciplined government etc.

Germany, Belgium, Luxembourg, Scandinavian countries, Netherlands, Austria, Great Britain, Ireland.

In this case maybe even Switzerland, Norway, Denmark, GB and Sweden would have joined, earlier or later.

But still, Europe was doing fine without the euro.

What we see now, is that GDP grow of 5 last years of EURO-coountries is worse than in England, Switzerland, Norway, Denmark and Sweden !

  11. Having observed the social phenomenon around the Chinese who get into the market, I would say that it's more likely to affect the Chinese tourist traveling to Europe or the USA and not the kind of 'zero profit' Chinese Tours that come to Thailand.

The market is still presently at a substantial gain over where it was last year, even after taking into account the present 'collapse'.

Both John Suddworth and Linda Yueh on BBC World tonight explained the situation and both would not agree with your viewpoint. They interviewed a tailor who has lost just $2000 but to him it was a big thing.

The stockmarket is still higher than end of last December, BUT so many people started trading this year, in May alone 14 million :

Retail punters account for 80-90 per cent of trading in the Chinese equity markets. Many of them are new to investing — in May alone more than 14 million trading accounts were opened. That means millions of people trading stocks have little or no direct memory of the 2007-8 stock market bubble and crash.

  12. A doctor in Jomtien (Pattaya) treated my GF for 4 diseases (4 types of bacteria) she didn't have (knowing she had a foreign BF with money)! This without doing a lab test. I asked for doing a lab test... , no bacteria!
Medicines priced double, 500 baht profit on the lab tests.
And the doctor was a liar: said that she (lady-doctor) wanted to do a cheap treatment (no lab test) because she didn't know my GF had a foreign BF.... but the proof of her being a liar was that she gave my GF a letter in English for me with the schedule of further treatments. So disgusting !!!

Then I tried to fiel a complaint with The Thai Medical Council.. no response. So disgusting!

  13. Whatever you take: not TOT !!!!!! Shocking experiences with their customer service (via telephone on hold for 45 mins and then getting disconnected, and this happened 10 times a year); in evening mostly very slow internet - may depend on how many people on 1 line in a building).
And also TT&T gave me bad experiences.

This was until 3 years ago, maybe it is better now, who knows!

    I am happy wit 3BB for 900 baht/month.
