The chinese took over Thailand decades ago, all of Thai gov and cooperation here are Thai Chinese as are the ruling elite. However, as much as they like Chinese temples and traditions they regard themselves as better than the Chinese and wont allow them to take over the country. Likewise the Chinese probably think the same and will want to expand their empire of which all they have to do is wave some money around at their long lost brothers and bobs your uncle:

this is all about the property market my friends... its almost like clockwork, each year it happens, starts in phuket and a couple of stories emerge, as a result many farangs cack their pants and sell up cheap, it lowers the market and clears many houses, prices, condos etc. the bubble although will never bursts deflates a little to accommodate the poor economy. it also pushes certain foreigners out of the country permanently, usually those who have spent everything and then made a huge loss selling property cheap. Or secondly they pay tea money to be left alone until the following crack down.

Do you all honestly think this is about doing the right thing in Thailand?

this is a very interesting topic, i just wish there were more experienced posters here.

So what i am interested in - is actually not the THAI based insurance companies, because i wouldnt trust them for one and doubt they are cheaper here.

For those of us staying here long term, surely getting travel insurance back in our home country for say 6 month periods will actually be cheaper and more geared up towards getting us out of dodge should a serious problem occur, which we probably would not want to be in any Thai hospital should heart surgery or a stroke occur.

Secondly i would much appreciate knowing more about the credit card insurance options, as a backup. What good credit cards actually provide insurance?
