  1. I live in Lam Duan, there's no 7/11 as dave says no farang bars, thre is a little resort that has just opened up, and the Lam Duan restuarant ,it's opposite where the teusday market is .

Thanks for some local knowledge Marleen.

Obviously Jeff(ZZAA09) was joking about forums, but I could not mention any by name, as I fear another whip-lashing

    Thanks matey

    :jap:

(hope I got away with this one)

  2. Forget it Dave, YOU wouldn't find it even with a St Bernard and a barrel of brandy.

    (let alone sat nav !)

You supply the barrel of Brandy and I will prove you right (or Wong)

    Hows the glove-compartment,Big Boy?

  3. The steak is beautiful to so says my gf...

Isaan is a big place toffo9 and I suggest you 'put more meat on the bone' with regard to what you are trying to tell us?

What city did you get the steak/pizza in???

  4. Are you SURE its a cable TV wire, as, although I do not live in Buriram, I have heard nothing about it on the local forum.

I live 8k out of Surin and have adsl 6meg but thats very rare in most places outside of town.

  5. Yes, there is 100% less in Lamduan.

I am not aware of even one 7/11 or a single farang friendly place there.

All my mates around there, drive into Surin for nearly everything including basics like milk.

In Sangka there is a nice little restaurant/watering hole owned by Frank, a top German guy.Thats worth a visit.

I may be wrong, so hopefully someone who actually lives there can also respond.

  6. Can any Sangkha locals recommend a guesthouse or hotel in Sangkha town? I'm visiting next month with a view to finding some long term rental accommodation so need a place to base myself. Also, is there a place I can hire a motorbike for a few days?

Any suggestions about rental property would also be welcome. My girlfriend's mother has mentioned a new project just completed called Utong/Sirin Ton or something like that, 2km from the town centre. And another new one near the bus station which may have some rentals available. She's not a local so unfortunately the info is a bit vague.

    Any help much appreciated.

There is a newish estate called Sirinthon which is 2km from SURIN town.

I do not know of any hotels/guest houses in Sangkha (other than basic motels/ ST rooms)or motorcyc hire shops.

If you decide to stay in Surin, I can suggest answers to everything you ask.

  7. It's must be pretty good for it to remain so top secret.

If I told you it was in Buriram, would I have to kill you?

(This tape will self-distruct in 15 seconds!)

  8. Udon was around long long before the arrival of Farand, and will be there long long after Farang depart. This cultural self-importance thing baffles me.

True, but you are on a farang forum Jeff, so most would expect a farang outlook from your fellow farangs.

    :jap:

  9. I can see the scrap metal dealers jumping up and down rubbing their hands.

If you squint your eyes you can see a white van with a mobile phone number on the doors, racing to the scene.

There is also someone in the 'flatbed' throwing out the tarmac and slate roof-tiles off the back.

  10. After reading this does any farang residing in Surin feel that he is living in an asylum?

If the good folk of Surin are feeling stress I would tend to think that living in crap housing, having an unvaried and deficient diet, and having inadequate schooling or medical facilities while fed a diet of trashy soaps and TV advertisements where everybody owns a Benz, lives in a palatial home, owns and uses a variety of weapons and quarrels with everybody within reach, might have something to do with it.

    Well said Bagwan

or spend their days lonely and miserable staring at a PC

I can think of many 'nut-jobs' around the Surin area and the only war they know is with their waistline! ;)

  11. There is a very good and well equiped tool/equipment shop near to Surin Plaza. I have bought a number of S/pumps from them over the years and found thier aftersales service very good. The Chinese boss speaks engrish too. Go across the bridge next to S Plaza, turn left and when you reach the main road, its the second on your left.

  12. I spent six months looking and eventually gave up. Anything under 1m/rai is either 20km out of town or in a terrible location. Sellers will not budge one inch on price. Most of the sellers weren't told that a farang was involved.

All the land I was interested in still seems for sale. Pattaya is ok but is not worth it at 1.5m or more per rai.

I have a contact(Thai) that not only lives in the area mentioned, but works in the business of buying/selling land/premises.

They have a 'special' arrangement so that they get first offer on 'Repo's' and I have seen some first hand, so this is not BS.

    PM me if interested.

  13. Your question reminds me of the clever lyrics from a Thin Lizzy track

"There's going to be a jailbreak somewhere in this town"

Sorry, I'll go sit back in the corner of the room!

  14. A lot of my American mates go to Rich man Poor man and I would also recommend the Fantasy Bar, Lovejoys OR The Country Club which is on the same side of the road as Lovejoys but before you get to it. Good band from 9pm every night and its friendly and laid back. Been going there years.

Going in the opposite direction on a Baht Bus and turning off the coast road at the police box, towards Sukumvit Rd is The Purple Space Monkey. Its sort of a tex/mex biker bar/restaurant/shop and is a great night out too!

  15. If it's too late and you left the door open and your house is already full of them then try this....Hold a bowl of water about 1 foot underneath the light that they are buzzing around and they will eventually all fly into the water. It works pretty good if you want to get rid of them quickly.

Better still place a bowl on the floor, directly below your outside lights (the bigger hte better) and the reflection will make the critters drown in the water, thus leaving your drinking hand free to sup another cold one!
