  1. Hello,

Thai National Wife Is In Quarantine - From Korean Airlines Flight July 18th - LAX -Seoul - BKK - Non ASQ Hotel - Cinnamon Hotel

    Few Suggestions & Ideas:

    * I'll attach the Fit-to-Fly forms she used.  There's no standard form.  Both were accepted, but you probably only need one.

    * At LAX the Embassy had many staff members and were very nice, helpful and with FOOD!

    * Don't worry about the "tight connection" at Seoul.  The whole plane from LAX moves as a unit over to the waiting airplane.

    * Her flight cost $1,410 and then an additional $245 from Maui to LAX on Delta Airlines.

    * Her flight to Seoul was good and everyone was spaced-out.

    * Her flight from Seoul to BKK was packed.  Not sure why.

    * If you have all the correct forms completed, it is an easy process.  If you do not -- not quite as easy!

    Suggestions:

    * Have a lot of extra toiletries.  Her Non-ASQ hotel had just a small amount of everything.

    * All hotels are different.  No one quite understands this.  She/He may be able to order items for delivery, some hotels have restrictions.  They are different, from what I have heard.  My wife is on the "more restrictive" hotel side of things.

    * Pack some puzzles, snacks, food items, things that will make her/him comfortable.

    * Get an exercise band.  Need to emphasize stretching and walking in place during the long quarantine.

No One -- And I Mean No One -- can determine how someone will handle 24/14 quarantine in a single room with no fresh air and no visual contact with others.  No One.

Think - Plan - Act - The best you can and do try and Predict how someone will feel.

The more you put into the "Thought Process" before departure and what someone should take - is very important.

Forget About Clothes.  Pack stuff that will help someone Quarantine for 14 Days.

    Best Wishes,

    Steve

  2. Thank You BobTheBuilder65

"You're The ONLY One Here That Gets It."

Yes, she's not in an ASQ hotel.  All hotels are different.

She is able to order a few things, but they said "No" to many things she has wanted.

She tends to "Push The System" a lot and asks a lot of questions.

Until you've been in Quarantine (which no one here has), I think it's best to be less Judgemental.

Thanks so much to the "One Third" of you posting replies.

    Steve

  3. Aloha,

    * Both her parents in Nong Khai are in ICU and very sick.  She needs to get to NK quickly.

    * As one poster appropriately stated:  All Hotels Are Different.

    * I rarely post.  I was just trying to offer some suggestions.

    *  Geez. If I met several of you I'd pop you in the mouth.  I just don't understand "hatred" & "Ugliness".  Sorry you can't go to a Trump  rally.

    * She's been able to order a few things, but they limit what and how she can buy things.  She is NOT in an upgraded hotel.

    * She's the toughest ISAAN women in the world.

    * She was disappointed when they took her to this particular hotel.  She heard it was not the best.

Thanks to those that offer ideas and suggestions during these troubling time.

To the others -- just move along to your next ugly-filled thoughts.

    Best to all,

    steve

  4. Hello & Aloha.

A lot of good information here, and the gentleman above seems to have all the paperwork handy.  I think he's gone through this process.

NOTE:  We had the wrong last name on her application, that did NOT match her passport correctly. The Embassy LA said for things of importance, talk with the Thai Embassy DC.  So I did leave a voice message and sent an email, and they quickly fixed the problem.

While they encourage you to deal with your "local Embassy" like  Los Angeles for us --- the best,  quickest and most accurate information comes from Thai Embassy DC.  Their voice mail box is always full, but when I leave a message I do get a quick response.

I have no idea when I can  go to Thailand.  We are not legally married in Thailand, only USA.

Yes, Maui is nice but we are "dead as a doorknob" with no tourists.

    Best Aloha Wishes To All,

    Steve

  5. Most of the information came in the form of emails from the Thailand Embassy in DC.  The travel agents weren't  much help.

    I submitted for her - all on-line:

    1.  Copy of Thai Passport

    2.  Basic information about where she lives in Bangkok.

    3.  Basic information about her status here in the USA.

That was about it.  She got "qualified status" in early June.  But she was not ready to go in June, so she waited until July.  It took her a couple of days to decide on which flight.  Some of her friends left on the first Cathay flight.

She will be in 14-day Quarantine in BKK at a hotel to be determined.

She was 'ok' with all of this.  Her parents in Nong Khai are not doing well.  I think her Mother is waiting for her to come back so she can die.  But who knows.

I'm happy to answer any questions, but it was really easy.

Best wishes -- stay safe, salty and sane.

    steve

    • Thanks 1
  6. Hello,

There are repatriation flights from June 16 to June 26.  My Thai National Wife is on Korean Airlines #KE012 from LAX.  There are also flights from JFK & IAD.  3 different airlines - Korean Airlines, JAL, and Asiana.

The form she completed just asked:  Thai Passport <or> Thai ID Card.   The form is simple and it gives you 4 travel agencies in BKK to book your travel.  My wife is flying from Maui, Hawaii to LAX and go from there.

Biggest Challenge:  Fit To Fly document.  It must NOT be older than 72 hours.  The flights are $1,000+ USD.  My wife receives an email each morning with updates.  Most flights currently have 80+ openings for 200 slots on each aircraft.

Hurry!  The Thai Embassy Washington DC is trying to fill the airplanes.  My wife talked to Global Union (travel agency) and Majestic Travel (also travel agency).  She paid for her ticket.  She will have 14-day Quarantine upon landing in BKK.

    You need just 3 things:

    1. Purchase Airline Ticket

    2. Request A Travel Certificate  (easy to download)

    3. Fit-To-Fly Medical Certificate.   My wife's PCP can do this.  It is NOT a Covid-19 brain teaser test.

    There are email addresses for you below;

The Royal Thai Embassy in Washington would like to inform you that the Royal Thai Embassy Royal Thai Consulate-General in New York City Royal Thai Consulate-General in
Los Angeles and the Consulate General in Chicago have approved the quota to send Thai people back from the United States. Additional 1,285 people

  8. Aloha,

We do have 1-2 flights a day, sometimes no flights, but yesterday 40 tourists and 51 residents came to Maui.  She can fly to LAX easily.

WE just got a long email from Washington DC Embassy.  She has 3 days to decide on a repatriation (sp?) flight.  I've copied the flights from LAX here below.

Either JAL, Asiana, or Korean Airlines.  200 Thai Nationals per flight.

My wife is thinking about the 28th flight by Asiana.  She  would rather fly JAL.

    She needs only 3 things.

    1.  Ticket on one of these flights below through one of four travel agencies dealing with ONLY these flights for Thai Nationals.

    2. A signed letter from the Embassy.  Easy to get with the included link.

    3.  A Fit-to-Fly document.  Easy to get here on Maui, Hawaii.  Getting the actual Covid-19 test is different.  The FTF document can be done my her PCP  with HMSA here on Maui.  Easy

  9. Hello,

Yes, like many others, I've talked with the Thailand Embassy in Washington D.C. & Office in Los Angeles.  I've been told about this form for my Thai National wife that desperately needs to get back to Thailand (Nong Khai) to take care of very sick parents.

Here is the URL link (it's long) that we used.  She has already received a reply from the Thailand Embassy.

I hope this helps everyone.  It is my "understanding" it can be used by anyone trying to get back into Thailand with a work permit, etc.   Just explain your situation in detail, as the text block is (I think) the most important aspect of the electronic form.  The Embassy is getting tired of people calling.

It has worked for us.  I hope it works for you, too.  I am just trying to help a little bit.

  10. Hello,

My Thai National wife is desperately trying to get back to Thailand (Nong Khai) to take care of very ill parents.  She used this form.  I am not sure everyone can use it, but she did get a quick email response.

It's LONG URL!!   I believe it can be used by someone with work permit.  Just add information and comments about your situation into the big text box.

  11. Hello,

My Thai Wife's homeland is west of Tha Bo, which is west of Nong Khai.  We spend a lot of time there, from our condo in BKK.  Years ago on Mainland USA, I rode a Honda Shadow Aero (1100cc) many times each week all over West Texas, and I took the Honda 3-day professional motorcycle handling course.  Excellent Training as I am very comfortable on a bike.

Now, I want to explore Issan areas and west -- but on a motorcycle.

    * Is there a reputable rental place in Nong Khai?

    * Any experience riding in the Northeast part of Thailand?   Maybe go down to KK and over to Khao Kho?

    * Specifically, how long should I plan to ride to Nong Khai to Chiang Mai?  Where to hotel-up?  What to see?

    * Even Better -- is there, possibly, a motorcy Club in ISSAN somewhere?  I love to ride with others, too.

Please share your experiences and pictures if you have any.  I'd love to hear of your knowledge.  Tell some stories, too!!!

I'm planning now for the end of the year, if Thailand continues to open-up the country and control the Virus.

Thank You and Best Wishes for continued good health,

    Steve

  12. Aloha,

I know we are not the only ones in this situation, and there's not much recourse -- but my Thai wife is very upset.

    * I'm American USA.  She's lived on Maui, Hawaii with me for 4 years.  Has a 10-year Green Card & SS Number. I'm 66.  She's 57.

    * My wife's mother is in ICU in Nong Khai.  Her father is having medical problems.  They are doing very poorly.  Not expected to make it.

    * Maui, Hawaii is on Mandatory Shutdown.  Only 1 or 2 flights a day now.

    * I called the consulate in Honolulu, Hawaii.  I got a call back.  I was told, emphatically, that she needs a Virus Test to be negative and a legal document stating she is a Thai National.  He can get me the document.

    * I called HMSA -- our Hawaii medical provider.  They basically said:  "No Way".  There are not enough tests on the island now, and they will NOT give her a test for any reason.  I fully explained that one of her parents may pass shortly.  They were nice -- but no go on the test.

Airlines to BKK from Honolulu are few.  She would have to go through Narita (Tokyo) or Taipei.  United Airlines has few options.

I know there was a 14-day quarantine, even for Thai Nationals.  But now there are no flights allowed into Thailand.

Any other suggestions or ideas?  I'm exploring all sorts of options -- with no luck.

My wife wants to be there on the passing of one, or both, of her parents.  They are both in their late 80's.

Best Aloha Wishes & Blessings For Good Health To All Of You!

  13. IF ONLY!   I had the floaters on a Friday night at age 60.  The next day I had a detached retina and have now had six (6) major surgeries.   If only I had gone to an eye specialist earlier.  Forget about Doctors.  Go see an Eye Specialist.  Only he/she can tell if the retina is weakening.

I now have very limited vision in my right eye, but thankfully, Dr. Wee in Honolulu at the Hawaii Retina  Institute is doing his best to keep some vision.  I still have a BUCKLE holding the retina together.  Dr. has taken out the block and the oil.

    Don't mess with your eyes.

(Don't pick up heavy objects.  Don't squint.   Keep your eyes relaxed.)

  14. Hello,

Just back from a month at our condo in BKK near BTS Saphan Khwai station.  My Thai wife and I go 2-3 times a year.

YES!  I AM STILL SICK!   SHE IS, TOO!

Lot of coughing. Headache.  Feel horrible.  Somewhat "Flu-like" conditions, but Maui, Hawaii doctor ran tests.  No FLU. No pnemonia.

    Just BACTERIAL.

My Maui Doctor has been to BKK and has these suggestions for when I go back to BKK:

    SUGGESTIONS FROM MAUI DOCTOR:

+ Before going to BKK, load-up on Vitamin C.

    + Wear a mask.  (ugh)

+ Forget about the B1 Shot.  It's worthless.

+ Load Up On Vitamins.  It won't hurt.

+ 1 Teaspoon of Apple Cider Vinegar, twice a day.

+ Drink a LOT of pure orange juice and pomagranite juice.

+ Get some "Moxxie" at Thai pharmacy.  Excellent antibiotic.  (I love this stuff!)

+ Definately wear a mask on flight to BKK and on BTS Skytrain.

+ Keep your hands clean and out of your mouth and nose.

+ Wear A Mask Even If You Don't Want To.

+ Buy an air purifer for our condo.

My Doctor here has been to Thailand and she got sick, too.  These were her suggestions.

  15. WHEW!  Just got back to Maui, Hawaii from BKK.  I spend 2 months there twice a year with myt Thai wife in condo.  Was sick for last 2 weeks and still sick for 2 weeks on Hawaii.

I cough a LOT.  "Almost flu like" conditions.

    SUGGESTIONS FROM MAUI DOCTOR:

  16. Aloha,

As a semi-pro photographer, I've used Canon DSLR's for a long time.  I sold my big Mark II and all the lenses.  I now shoot with a Samsung Galaxy S10+.  Three lenses.  Shoot with tripod.  Also, shoot in 4K.  I use the timer, and can say:  "Shoot" and it takes the picture.  I use "Pro" mode, and change the aperture, shutter speed and ISO.

Now ... I am starting to shoot a lot at night, and now miss my full frame camera.  My dinky Canon G10 and G12 point-and-shoot are not doing it for me.  So, I am considering a Canon M50. Reasonable in price.  About $695.00 here in USA.

By the way .... I am a Big YouTuber -- with multiple channels.  My Maui Travel Videos channel has over 35K Views, and I only shoot with the Galaxy S10+.  I just bought a Samsung Galaxy S8+ for my back-up.  I use an external lavalier microphone, and several ND filters.

It just depends on what you want to do.  As a YouTuber, I am very good with Smartphones.  You can even sell on Shutterstock and other stock photography sites.  I also use a Zhiyun Smooth 4 Gimbal.  Quite nice and don't have big lenses and big body to carry with me on my travels.

Just some insight here.  Either way is good.

Best wishes and shooting.  Remember -- it's not about the equipment.  It's about your ability to frame an image that tells a story.

    Good Luck.  Steve

  17. My Mother (USA) said to me often:

"There Is Nothing Worse In This World Than A Woman Felt Scorned".

I Don't Think It's Much Different Throughout The World.  Go Through A USA Divorce And You'll Understand.  I Am Sure It's The Same Everywhere.    The Woman Will Go Out-Of-Her-Way To Make The Man Look Badly.  She Will Say And Do Anything .... To Her Family & The Kids, To Make It look Like It's Not Her Fault.

It's The Same As "Losing Face".

    I Believe.
