You will get a 30 day visa exempt entry. It has not been 15 days for nearly 3 years now.

Then you can apply for the non immigrant visa (category O) at immigration.

    General requirements are here. https://www.immigration.go.th/content/service_79

Chiang Mai will want at least 21 days remaining on your 30 day entry or the 30 day extension of it to apply.

There's the missing pieces of the puzzle I was hoping for. I was unaware of the visa exemption being increased and couldn't find any reference to the time required by Chiang Mai immigration to process the Non-imm "O".

All of the other general requirements shouldn't be an issue considering we just finished jumping through all the USCIS hoops for green-cards and visas for the wife and step-kids.

Thank you for your accurate insight.

When did this happen?  Extensions of stay end when the reason for them ends so you could be in lala land immigration wise.  Even leaving without ending extension has been an issue at some locations.  I know BOI has been allowed the old week stay (no longer allowed others without application for new extension) so hope no issues - you might want to advise when work/pay ended for better answers from those in the know.

The company shut down in July. The first thing I did was head to immigration to try and migrate to a new visa. But they said they couldn't help unless the BOI office canceled my current visa. I then asked the BOI about getting it canceled and they required an agent of the company with authorization and the supporting documentation to make the request. When I explained there wasn't anyone with the ability to make this request, they advised me to just ride out the last 5 months of my current extension of stay. I have clearly explained all details of the situation to immigration and they have just acted like their hands are tied due to it being BOI.

But with my permission to stay date and my wifes due date in such close proximity, i want to get this handled as soon as possible.

  3. Thanks in advance to those of you (Probably @Ubonjoe) with a clearer understanding of the Thai immigration Visa process than I.

    Bio Info:
    38 years old
    legally married to Thai (2017)
Wife is 7 months pregnant with my 1st kid

I started working in 2015 under a BOI company and entered under a Non-B visa, followed by a 2 year extension of stay under the BOI visa. My current BOI 2 year extension is due to expire late December.

The company I was working for has closed and all operation have been shut down. No execs, managers, staff or office. Now I knew this day was probably coming so I planned ahead and made sure I had the financial requirements for applying for an extension of stay based on marriage covered.

The main problem I have is that I can not get the BOI division in Chiang Mai or Bangkok to assist me in canceling my current visa.

So I am planning on exiting Thailand without a re-entry to effectively cancel my current extension of stay. Then re-entering via a land crossing and obtaining a 15 day visa exemption. Once back in Chiang Mai I want to file a TM87 and apply for a Non-Imm "O" visa, followed by an extension of stay based on marriage.

    Is this possible?

  4. My company in CM allows the people to use our heavily discounted rate with DHL and other freight carriers. We generally just add a % on to the top just to cover incidentals that always seem to pop up. If you are in CM, let me know and I can try and get you some more information.

    20kg - 30kg using DHL is 4,200 - 5,500 THB approximately

  5. No Luck on the southern location. Awesome little pool, but that's where it stopped. The owner is a pool designer and builder and his pool was very well done. The rest was not even close. We were open to doing some renovating and upgrading, but this places was in the middle of nowhere and a pain in the ass to get to. We have found 2 more options inside the city, and are planning on checking those out. I am only intrigued by one of them, but looking never hurts. If those are failures, I am dragging people up the 1001 towards Meechok to see whats available.

  6. I am going to cruise out that way today with my brothers GF and see if we can find something we like. She is the one who wanted a pool but lately has been more inclined to have a decent area to lounge in the sun and have people over. We do have one appointment around 3pm to check out a 2 bed, 2 bath house with a small private pool just south of old CM. 18k a month and the owners are open to adjusting the rate for improvements we are wanting to do and finance. So hopefully by sometime early next week we should have a handle on where we are going. If the south location is bust, i will definitely be pushing for off the 1001. Thanks for the recommendations and advice.

  7. I should have just bought a motorbike as soon as I landed and started driving around to get my bearings. I've spent days looking through listings and trying to decipher where places are and which districts/areas i should focus on. But then I realize none of the district/areas are specific and cover massive tracts. So now I feel like i am just spinning my wheels wasting time. Only Hendricks and tonic is making this easier.

  8. Is Tanavan Village within Outer Ring Rd?

I only landed in CM last week and without having any practical knowledge of the area had this task dropped in my lap. I personally would rather be more centrally located towards central CM and give up on a pool, but it's still being debated by our group. My 2 other companions are just tired of being crammed into a condo for 6 months after spending the past couple years on Koh Phangan.

  9. I've been contacting real estate agents this week looking for a new home location. I initially submitted a very basic request to the top 12 or so results I found via google. A couple sent back lists of very basic and general results that meet about 60% of what we are looking for. Does anyone have any recommendations, referrals or insight into resources I can tap into to help this along? I recontacted a couple agents and provided a more detailed description of what will meet our needs, but I am not holding my breath. Any ideas or contacts are greatly appreciated.
