  1. To update - not having much luck with this.

I ended up applying in June. It arrived at the headquarters a week later (I tracked it online). Stupidly, I forgot to include my passport photos, but I received an email from someone there mid July (personal email address but asked for the passport photos for the police clearance certificate, so I assume not a scam), and said I could send a digital copy. Since then, I've had no reply. I've emailed that person again, emailed the police department, filled out the contact form on their website multiple times (which says you will receive a reply within 24 hours).... nothing. I don't want to apply again as I already had to go to Bristol to get two sets of fingerprints (about £150 for the pleasure). My HR department are quite rightly chasing me up on this frequently, and it's difficult trying to explain the reality of Thai time when their website says the certificate will be sent within 25 days!

  2. Hi,

Has anyone applied for a police clearance certificate (while in the UK) recently? I've been back in England for two years but I lived in Thailand for ten, and my current job wants a police clearance certificate from my time there.

I've looked at the information on the London Thai embassy website - looks like I need to get my fingerprints done here, and then apply by post? Do they really need TWO originals of the fingerprints? They're expensive! £113 for the first set and £57 for a second..

I remember the years of having to supply two of every single document for my visa, so I'm assuming it's correct, but........ hoping for someone to tell me they only needed one and a photocopy!

    Thanks

Those are absolutely the things I'd be thinking -- until and unless this thing gets resolved or stabilized.  If I was home, I'd stay home. If I was planning intl travel to SE Asia, I'd postpone it right now.

Seems sensible to me. My mother is meant to be flying out here in a couple of weeks, but she’s ~60 and has a terrible immune system to begin with. Until we know more, I don’t much like the risk of her being exposed to this while in transit, or her then being around my one year old.
Happy to look back in the future and think ‘remember that time when we freaked out over nothing’ rather than wishing we’d played it safe.

  4. Does anyone know if this truck has isofix points? I already own one and thought it had, but have been using a kids car seat that is attached by a seatbelt. I'm currently back in the UK and want to pick up a better car seat while I'm here, but haven't actually looked for the points in the car before.

Can anyone confirm for me? Thanks!

  5. Hi everyone.

I'm English and will be marrying my Thai partner in April. I have done some research but just wanted to check if I have the process right by people who have done it already - people on ThaiVisa were very helpful last year when we were applying to get his UK visitor visa, so I have come back for more help!

So as I understand it, this is the process:

    1. I need to go to the British embassy for affirmation document to prove I can marry. I book an appointment, take my 2300 baht and my passport and fill in the template from the gov.uk website.

    2. Go to the MFA to get my document translated and legalised.

    3. Go to the amphur to register marriage.

Do I need to take anything else to the appointment? Proof of work, income, address etc?

Is the MFA the only place I can get my document translated/legalised, or can I return home to Surat Thani and do it here? If I have to do it at the MFA, how long does it take / what is the fee?

Am I then free to take my translated document to any amphur I wish? (So I can go alone to Bangkok, get my documents, then return to Surat and marry here?)

On paper it looks like a simple process, which I'm sure it can't be, so I must have got it wrong somewhere!!

    Thankyou for any help!

  6. Hi everyone,

Just jumping on to this thread to ask a similar question. I am about to start my third year working at the same (and only) school, I am hired through an agency (who are also a language school and have evening and weekend classes) to work at a private school. Does this mean I have never needed a waiver? I have BA English + TESOL (+ three TESOL specialisations that I have done alongside teaching) so I know I don't qualify for the teacher licence. I checked my passport number on the TCT website and it has no information. I have only just started to think about it as I think in another year I want to move to a different area.. if I was to start working in a government school would I then start fresh with the waiver process, i.e. be able to teach at that school for 4 years? I am looking in to possibly doing my MEd either online or with classes part time in BKK at some point, but cannot afford it at the moment, so want to check if I'm still good for 4 years if I move!

    Thanks for any help!

  7. Not ANOTHER extra holiday! Thailand already has more regular holidays than any other country in the World except one. This year several extra holidays were already declared if memory serves me. Student class time has already been greatly reduced; adding more holidays isn't going to help them learn anything when they are in class so infrequently. But, maybe that's the idea.

Most the holidays are in school holiday time anyway (April, October)

  8. This thread has been helpful, just to confirm this is still the case that exiting the country restarts the 90 days?

I should check in by today if I stuck to the original 90 days but I left and re-entered last month.

However last year I left the country and didn't know that it reset the 90, I went to immigration on my original 90 days and they just processed it as normal (even though it would have been a couple of months early).....

  9. This post has been helpful for me too, thanks everyone.

Just to clarify - I'm going to the UK next month and plan on getting a new passport as mine only has a few pages left (and a couple of years), will they let me keep my old passport and then when I arrive in Thailand with my new and old passports, I can enter on my old one (with my nonB visa in it)? Then I just need that letter from the embassy to transfer my visa to my new passport at my local immigration office? It will be my 90 day check in a few days after I return from England..

  10. We recently got my partners visa approved with me as his sponsor - he is currently unemployed and I just earn regular teaching-in-Thailand salary, plus we have a (very) small amount in savings. I thought if there was any reason the visa would be denied it would be our finances. But they deemed it enough for us to go to the UK for a couple of weeks... I would say work hard on your sponsor letter and make sure everything else is perfect, reason to return etc, and just include letter of invitation from family.

  11. Thankyou. My locak K bank won't do it for me as they are not the branch I opened with (I opened at Asok 3 years ago but now live in Suratthani, and we don't arrive in BKK until after they close tomorrow). Which means unless I miss work I will never be at the bank during their opening hours! Boyfriend is currently on his way to SCB to see if they will do for his account.

Already starting to chalk this one up as a test run / experience. Although it's been so stressful I don't think we even want to go to Bangkok together now, never mind England!
