I went to Nonthaburi Immigration to ascertain whether my previously bought 60 day extension based on having a Thai wife would begin on Nov1 (I got the extension in August and am on a tourist exempt entry after arriving in mid March). It turns out my extension does not begin at the end of the current amnesty, it began in late September, on the previous amnesty expiration date. I was unable to bring the starting date forward to the end of the current amnesty. After asking about whether my extension would begin on Nov 1, I was given another application document for extending my stay and told to return in November. I can't offer more info about the document as the only English words on it are Covid 19 but I assume it was the 60 day Covid document extension of stay 3900 baht doc. I hope this can clear things up for others.

The way the rules are written in the latest announcement they may be able to have the start date of the extension changed to the November 1st.
At any rate I will have to go to Immigration at some point (with some trepidation, I must say), so I will make a posting of the result. Thanks for everyone's help and comments.

Reading the immigration announcement done on October 1st that is volume 2 of the one that went info effect on August 1st I would say your 60 day extension should be changed to start on November 1st according to the new announcement.
I think immigration offices/officers are probably as confused by the new announcement as anybody else would be the way it is written.
I had look at both announcements again before I could give you an answer to your question.
You have until October 31st to ask for the additional 30 days be added to your extension.
Thanks for this UbonJoe. I am certainly hoping this will be the result.

Hi everyone,
I am confused about what types of extensions are having their start date begin on Nov 1. My situation is that I entered Thailand in mid March on a visa exempt entry and have been on amnesty. I went to immigration in late August and received a 60 day extension of stay based on being married to a Thai wife. This extension would have begun on Sept 27 and finish Nov 25. I am wondering if I go to immigration, will this extension be updated to begin on Nov 1 and finish in late Dec? oOr will I just get until Nov 30? Or could it even be invalidated? I called Immigration and ended up walking out the same door of confusion I entered. I was also told they are suspending Non O applications due to covid. Has anyone else had any experience trying to get a 60 day extension obtained before Sept 26 from a visa exempt entry validated to start on Nov 1? My local immigration office is Nonthaburi, so if anyone has experience regarding this office it would be hugely appreciated, however any experiences would be great to know.
Thanks for any replies.

What I would love to know is if previously obtained extensions of stay will now begin on Nov 1 instead of Sept 27? If not I am annoyed that I blew my 60 day extension for a measly 26 days. Not to mention having to open a bank account, transfer money etc for a Non O just to stay in the country until the end of the year, which this new announcement would have allowed me to do had it been delivered sooner. Rant over.

Too late for me. I extended my stay for 60days based on marriage, and am going through the hoops to get a 90 day Non O so my wife can finish some training in preparation to leave the country at the end of the year. Now this farce of a development that makes sure those who extended their stay in a timely fashion are penalized. Maybe in Thailand it pays to wait until the last minute.

The first thing you will have to do is apply for a change of visa status to get a 90 day non immigrant visa (category O) entry. To apply for it the 400k baht only needs to be in the bank on the day you apply.
Requirement for the visa is here. https://bangkokimmigration.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/09/06-edit_NON-O.pdf
Then during the last 30 day of the 90 days you can a apply for a one year extension of stay based upon marriage. That is when the 400k baht has to be in the bank for 2 months.
The visa application and extension will require about the same supporting documents and etc.
This is my general list for them. Marriage Extension Requirements 2.pdf
You will apply at Korat immigration if that is the province you are living in.
Thanks for this. I am in a similar boat but entered on a 30 day visa exempt in March. I have extended my stay for an extra 60 day (until Nov 25) due to being married to a Thai, but information on the Non O visa process was hard to gather at Immigration.

I went to the Nonthaburi Immigration office yesterday seeking clarification on extending a 30 day visa exempt by 60 days based on marriage. I was told to wait until at least April 30 as I will still qualify for the 60 day extension after the current automatic extension expires.

They cannot refuse to issue one without a valid reason. Any type of entry can be extended for 60 day to visit your wife or Thai child.
Thanks for that info.

Hi all,
My current situation involves me needing to extend a 30 day visa exempt in early April. I am married to a Thai and wish to extend my stay by 60 days, then get the Non-O based on marriage visa started in this 60 day period. I have read some accounts of Nonthaburi refusing to extend stay by 60 days based on marriage in the past, and was wondering if anyone has any recent experience in this regard.
Any experiences are much appreciated as I do feel some concern over this.

There is no limit on the number of single entry non-o visas you can get.
If you want more than one entry then you could get a multiple entry non-o visa at some nearby embassies and consulates.
Thanks for the information, cheers

Hi all,
I just have a quick question, how many times can you get a non o visa based on marriage if you don't extend it for a year? Is there a limit per year?
Thanks in advance,

Thanks for all the replies. I have decided to do the border run as I already had a ticket to Vientiane and hotel booked for my now aborted Non O attempt. I have no visa exempt land entries this year. It is good to know that the Laos border is a good place to do it.
Thanks for the advice. Good to know about the possible opportunity to extend for a further 60 days too.

Hi all,
I am currently stuck in an interesting situation and am unsure what my options are. I am in Thailand on a tourist visa that has been extended for 30 days. I am due to leave the country on the 18th of September. Late last week I was offered a job in Korea, and have been frenziedly organizing my E2 work visa for this. However, all things going well, I am required to be in Korea by the 27th to begin my new job. To make matters more interesting, I am worried that when I get the green light to submit my documents to the Korean embassy in Bkk I may well be in Laos to do a visa run. I have briefly considered the idea of paying the overstay but want to avoid this if at all possible. I am also a little concerned at being denied entry back into Thailand should I seek to exit and re-enter on the same day.
My question is: Is there a way I can extend my stay long enough to travel to Korea on the 25th without having to leave Thailand? If it helps I am married to a Thai national with all relevant legal documents. At the time of extension I did not realize I was eligible for a 60 day extension so I kinda shot myself in the foot there with my lack of knowledge. I have two back to back tourist visas, one from my home country and my second from Vientiane. Before I got my Korean job I was planning to get a Non O visa during this exit.
Thanks for any advice.
