I was in Vietnam as a soldier when the U.S.  new Military Payment Certificates (MPC) which was not supposed to be black marketed was changed to a new design.

Some of the Vietnamese bar owners had full sea chests of the old design .

I was at a site where a bar owner had 20,000 dollars in the old design MPC and offered anyone who had the new design 20,000 Dollars in the old design to anyone who would give him 10, 000 dollars in the new design one day in advance of it being made legal.

There was no one who could do that as the new design was impossible to get one day before it was legally issued. Security was just to tight  with the new design notes.

So this bar owner just took his 20,000 dollars in the old design MPC and burned it in the street as it was worthless the next day.

If he had those MPC's I assume he received them as payment for services delivered. Why was he not able to exchange them with the US army?

Clean & care ... inner lid. step by step.

That was almost perfect, if only you had the right model

Any way thanks for the link, as it put me in the right direction. It seems that the model I have the inner lid can not be removed.

Google, Google, Google. works every time.

I'm sure I would have figured that out by myself..............if I had such a such a cooker. Unfortunately mine isn't like that with the tine plate just wiggling in the lid.

My bad actually for not posting which rice cooker I have, as I didn't realise that there are so many different types.

    I have a Hitachi RZ-PM10

    Image result for hitachi rz-pm10

  4. Anyone know how to remove the tin plate in the lid of an electric rice cooker?

As it contains the steam hole, I can imagine that between that tin plate and the plastic lid a lot of dirt is collected, but I don't see any way to remove it.

  5. I have such a couple as direct door neighbours. Very nice people, and not the Tom isn't horrible.

Not so long ago I helped them with an issue they had with their pool pump.

After I finished they asked how much they owed me. I answered them that I didn't charge anything for neighbours, but when they insisted I said OK I wanna watch

The week after my doorbell rang, and when I opened the door, there was the Tom and his GF standing with a nice Tag Heuer for me.

Then comes the delivery - Best to pay COD as the company they use - Kelly are absolute shit finding anywhere.

I bought an SSD from Lazada and about 2PM Kelly logistics rings me to ask where my house is. (They are literally less than half a kilometer from my home). We give them directions and I walk out of the driveway to flag the guy down as my road in is a bit obscure. 20 minutes pass and no sign of the idiot.

I gave up. However, 3 hours later the phone rings again and it is Kelly...the bloody idiot driver decided to go and deliver everyone elses order first then backtrack to my home on the way back, would have been nice if he had bothered to tell me that 3 hours ago!

So they are only half a kilometer from your home and you don't even know the name of the idiot company?

Any way, if KERRY depot was that close to my home I would arrange to pick it up there, yes you can, which would save me a lot of time and hassle.

Lazarda  are a third world shit company trying to emulate Amazon....clueless idiots.

Lazada is only an online merchant platform, the packing and shipping is done at the supplier, so blame them for your problems.

The eggs that we buy dont have any date stamp on them at all. OTOH my wife buys them directly from the egg farm or the local markets.

If you want to know if the eggs are OK then put them in a pan of water. If they float they are no good. If they stay on the bottom of the pan they are good.

Bit of a hassle to take a pan of water with you each time you want to go buy eggs in the market, don't you agree?

He better doesn't carry his 2 week budget on him then, because then it would last only 1 day as well.

This issue of monthly spend has come up on TVF a number of times over the years, at one point there was even a poll! Every time we have the debate there are always the extremes, highs and lows but the majority always seem to plump for the 50/60k bracket and most seem to agree that's a sensible level of spending for most households. So of course all of this is circumstantial evidence but based on personal spending habits, I'm inclined to support it as being the closest we're ever likely to get to fact.

So you consider any poll on Thaivisa, especially when it concerns financials or personal skills and background, reliable?

I guess I heard enough then.

I bet a poll about how many were married to a prostitute would give a you an average of below 10%

12000 baht a day is basically a Thai version of Brewster's Millions. You have to (consciously or sub-consciously) choose things because they're expensive. Nobody can actually spend that amount of money shlepping through the day and genuinely doing what they want to do. A group of paratroopers who've spent 3 months in Norway in winter and have gone to Thailand to thaw out* - and who were known to be big drinkers - wouldn't blow through 12,000 baht a day.

[*One of my pals and his chums!]

Many a gogo on walking street imported spirits are 200 Baht these days, bar fine 1000 Baht, and if a decent looking gal add a multiple of that to the bar fine.

I don't think your pals were that big drinkers, or they just spent their nights at the concrete tables of a 7/11, and did some handwork at the end of the night.

Yes it's a small room and I shall try your thermal reflective film, heat comes mostly from the window

for the rest, there is an airflow with two doors and light curtains ; pity to buy an A/C unit , even small ( never seen a small A/C, I must say )

Heat will not come mostly from the window, since the biggest part of the day in Thailand the sun stays high, so the heat will come through your ceiling.

Insulate your ceiling with 6" fiber wool, and your room will be significantly cooler already.

Better 2 x 3" than 1 blanket of 6" also, as you can lay them crossways, and have an additional air barrier between the 2 blankets.

That is for rice in western countries where an expiration date is required to be printed.  The expiration date would never be the date made.  Expect it is likely a year later but do not have access to any such rice to check.

The article has nothing to do with western countries or what the expiry date should be, it clearly stats.

    How Long Does Rice Last?

  14. 2 minutes ago, lopburi3 said:

If you read your source you will see that it refers to "use by date" not production (mfg) date.  There is no use by date required here but if there were it would not be the production date.

Yes it says 6-8 dates past printed date, which means the rice shelf life ended end of April this year.

  15. 32 minutes ago, billd766 said:

Why did you not check the expiry date at the supermarket before you bought it?

If you had, you would not have bought it, and it would have given you an excuse to bash the manager at the supermarket.

Yes I should have checked when I purchased, but I was actually of the assumption that all rice has a shelf life of several years, so I was surprised today to learn that brown rice has such a limited shelf life compared to white. So even if I had noticed the date at prurchase, I probably may have thought nothing about it.

Was it 'in promotion' or was it red-tagged (reduced price) because it was near or past the expiration date?

Consumer protection is in its infancy in LOS (some say it is still-born) so as always, caveat emptor applies.

It was clearly in promotion, yellow price tag, but I believe that food should never be allowed to be sold 6 months beyond expiry date, whatever tag they may stick to it.

  16. 2 weeks ago at a big supermarket chain on Pattaya klang, I bought Germinated brown rice ( also called GABA rice) because it was in promotion.

Today I opened the vacuum sealed package and right away noticed a fouls smell.

On the seal it say mfg 240858, so clearly the rice was 14 months old .

I look it up and brown rice has a shelf life of 6-8 months.

    http://www.eatbydate.com/grains/rice-shelf-life-expiration-date/

So why are big supermarkets in this country still allowed to sell expired goods, and so scam their customers?

Be warned next time you buy rice, because it may well be expired, and they don't give a damn.

Thanks for the replies. Seems a risk bringing the machine in so I wouldn't do that, but there are a fair amount of non thais work in thailand so maybe applying for a work permit may be the way forward.

I don't have the list of prohibited jobs, but I think tattoo's would be on it, as it is something Thais can do themselves.
