If you were rejected did they send you back to your home country or were you allowed to fly anywhere?

His last trip into Thailand was a few months ago and he does have a 10 overstay in his passport from before. He got in with this overstay in his passport on his last trip.

I do have the picture of the stamp but my friend rather it not be posted. It states reason for refusal was because he could not show proof of funds, along with the date it happened and signed by an officer. 
 

He came from a holiday in Japan so it was not an in/out thing.  They said he had stayed too long in Thailand (1.5 years) and he should not be here amongst other things during the whole process.

Just wanted to make people aware that you should have 20,000b on your persons when entering Thailand on a SETV or METV.

My friend failed to bring that amount and failed to show proof of onward ticket and he was not let into Thailand. Offical reason for refused entry was lack of funds for holiday (was stamped in his passport).

Hundreds more like the link in the OP. Not sure why there's still a debate about it, digital nomads in Thailand are fine.

I got in last week.

My passport has

3 -Visa waiver stamps

2 -triple entry tourist visas

1 -double tourist entry visa

In the last 3 months I've used 1 double tourist and one visa waiver. Each time they didn't ask me anything.

I'm not sure, seems like several bloggers in bangkok have been writing about this topic. Never would I use Iglu though, they are the middle man in two way transaction that doesn't require a middle man.

Apparently you missed the part where to take from a community you must also contribute (and don't give me some rubbish about how much spend as Tourist or with VAT)

I do contribute. I have made books and sites that encourage people to travel to Thailand. I am bringing business into this country. Maybe instead of wasting time arguing about how I or other should live our lives, perhaps your time could be better spent buying an expired domain and creating your own start up? Just an idea!

Oh...VAT doesn't count as contributing. And why's that because we are forced to pay it perhaps? What a person spends whether earned or brought in adds to money velocity in which money serves the needs of the people. Giving to the community...the real wealth of the entire planet is held in the hands of a tiny fraction of its inhabitants. The same ones who own the planation from whence you came I'd wager.

I see humans (myself included) as a cancer on this earth, everything we touch turns to crap. Water polluted, food is all GMO, drones, deaths, numerous waters fall of oil. We are like a virus and our goal is to destroy the earth. We bring more harm than good. I will not contribute to the system and that's just me, I don't care what you think. I am all for helping others and being nice and helping my fellow man on the street, but when it comes to the system, no thanks jeff. We are the new generation, this is how we do things now.

I bet this came to you as a surprise - who reads fine print anyways... In insurance company's view you have to be permanent resident of a country, or you are in fact not insured under their travel insurance...

You will find this clause or something similar in every insurance company policy..

There is nothing greedier on this planet than insurance company (they are worse than any government!) and they sure know how to cover their a** and to get you to pay the bill, plus they have an army of lawyers! This clause is just one of them, never take policy without reading and re-reading the fine print.

Not so much, I have a degree in Economics so know how the world works, but still a good find for other digital nomads looking to get insured.

First question World Nomads ask what is your country of permanent residence.

DIRECT FROM WN POLICY: Your country of permanent residence can be defined as the country you would wish to be repatriated to in the event of a medical emergency and where you would be able to then receive long term medical care, if required. You must also be legally defined as a permanent resident (not temporary) of that country and have a residential address that you can refer to within that country.

This same clause is all insurance policies that I have found... but they do keep quiet about it.

Nice to know, they were too pricy for me anyway. Will need to renew in December, guess I'll stick who I am using now. Thanks for the heads up tho!

Which country are you from?

This no-tax/nomad set up is all fun and games until the day you for example have particularly bad traffic accident that requires significant hospital time (quite likely in Thailand), get serious illness or suddenly lose your money/jobs for whatever reason that has nothing to do with you - what do you do then?

Since you think paying taxes is stupid I guess you are on your own then…

I am willing to put my money on that you would be running back home and claim all benefits/help you can think of. If you are not legally living anywhere or dont have company anywhere, you cannot get insurance for you as far as I know – or can you?

I’m not that stupid to think that nothing bad ever happens to me or my business… life’s a bitch sometimes you know.

Many learn this lesson too late when the s**t already hit the fan... I have seen it too many times in Thailand.

I have my own travel insruance that covers me for everything. And I don't see what is wrong with claiming benfits back home. When I worked back home, they took income tax from my salary and I didnt have a choice in the matter. I wasent even consulted. If I am allowed to claim benfits ( I don't think I am), I will happily do so. Who would'nt? It's free money.

Life is a game my friend, it's all about how you play it. You are a nice person I assume but the system is a harsh beast that takes no prisonsers. We must do what we can in this life. God speed!

Did you read through this thread before commenting?

Who is complaining about the police or immigration?

Who is operating outside of the bounds of Thai law?

To break it down:

1 - The immigration police raided a co-working space under the suspicion that the people there were working FOR the co-working space.

2 - The people in the co-working space were taken for questioning.

3 - Once it was determined that they were not employed by the co-working space, the people who were questioned were released without charge.

Points to take from this:

• Nobody is complaining about police or immigration conduct. Beyond a couple of people claiming it is a waste of resource - which, to be fair, it turned out to be.
• The people in the co-working space were not considered to be operating outside the bounds of Thai law.

Why are you rolling out the 'if you don't like it go elsewhere' comment and defending the police from non existent criticism? They were released without any charges - generally that means the person questioned did nothing wrong.

I think this somes it up nicely.

And does this also pertain to your views regarding the laws of Thailand? That also happen to be officially written.

I don't belive in taxes, thus I don't pay them. If my own country wants remove my citizenship, I would not care. Just because something is written down on a piece of paper doesnt mean I SHOULD do it. I do what I think is just and right, and will follow the path it takes me. But we are going a bit off topic, so feel free to continue this in PM. Otherwise I will try to keep it more on topic to the news thread. *thumbs up*

If you're breaking the law and stupid enough to do it out in the open you probably deserve the punishment. Digital nomads - whatever the hell that is - often say how they can do their job anywhere. Well why would anyone provoke the authorities by all getting together in the same place to make a mockery of the laws?

Because Thailand does not care for digital nomads working here, that's why there are so many co-working spaces in CM and Bangkok. If you start working digitally yourself, you will see things from the other perspective and get a deeper insight on how little they actually care. It's like riding a bike for the first time, you are so scared that you will fall and get hurt (this is your opinion on working here as a nomad), but when you actually do it, you know there's very little to worry about. So much so, that people are working in co-working spaces.

At the moment you are not seeing the full picture, you are just making assumptions based on hear say and what YOU THINK is right, which is fine. We have now had two stories stating that it is OKAY for digital nomads to work here in Thailand on various visas.

Nobody was punished today either, they were free to go and allowed to do whatever work they were doing. Nobody is making a 'mockery' of the laws. To say digital nomads are making a mockery, is like saying ever Thai and western person who ever visited a go go bar or brothel is making a mockery of the laws too.

This may be true for those with no real connection to a place or person. I too enjoyed the transient lifestyle for a while.

However if you're like me and in between nomading and marriage, then the idea of disappearing for 3 months each year just isn't an option and getting married simply for a visa isn't ideal in a relationship sense also.

I don't mean to sound critical of you, I actually support what you say completely, however it doesn't apply to everyone who is a "digital nomad'.

On another note, while I do love Thailand and can understand its lure for people, I do often wonder why so many people wish to spend 4,5,6,10 years straight in a country they have no family/relationship/business connection to? Is your home country really that bad? Is Thailand so amazing? Or is it just the exchange rate?

I don't like the idea of working a 9-5 or the idea of giving a large % of my salarty in taxes, that are used to fund wars or pay for PMs to have 3-4 homes on tax payers money. I also think the system back home is a joke, but it's a joke everywhere. I am forced to pay a % of my salary and I am left with just enough to eat and cover costs. While huge corpations like Starbucks and Vodafone who millions get away with it.

I don't agree with it so I left. My home country has many awesome things, but I it's too much of a matrix and the yonger generation know this, it's why they are getting out. I personally picked Thailand because it's easy to sleep with girls and it's cheap.
