Thaksin was/is as corrupt as can be- by his own admission billions of baht was hidden in his servants' names for years.
For what I ask you? Manipulation of stock is the only answer that makes sense
His sister was the PM and is now charged with negligence regarding the rice scheme. She was warned repeatedly about corruption and massive losses within the scheme. She ignored them.
If there are no serious losses or fake G to G she has nothing to lose in defending herself from unfair charges.

When the US talk about democracy I remember Chile and Kissinger's involvement in the overthrow of the elected Marxist government and subsequent murder of Allende, the leader.
What were his words at the time, they even reached Thailand- something like this -' We couldn't afford to stand by and allow a communist party to take power'
He should have been jailed a long time ago, along with the war criminals, Blair and Bush..

Is it too much to hope for the disappearance of the Shinawat family from Thai politics? Years of meglomania, money, money and money, and finally utter stupidity, could they come to an end? It sounds too good to be true.
I believe there is space for a new party, the decent members from Pheua Thai, and there are some, could form their own party, attracting Democrats disaffected with the Apisit clique. A party that truly believes in members and MPs having opinions and rights.

Although I am not farang I feel sorry for all the boys like binjalin ( is he related to the terrorist?) who feel forced to support the Thaksin clan.
Quite rightly they sympathize with the average Thai person who cannot fight against the money and influence of those with power and money.
But can't they see the Shinawatra family is a prime example of the influence of money and patronage?
Please .....Mango Bob, the son of bin laden, and other lost souls.... support good people, not super rich airhead clones forced to take a post by a meglomaniac.
Everything good takes time to develop- human values, democracy, awareness of the good and bad aspects of development and technology, now we need good people to take us forward, those from the grass roots who love their communities and are also educated.
Not rich ignorant families.

This is terrible news, only last week our radiant ex-PM promised Thailand there was no corruption, no negligence on her part as the chairwoman of the rice policy and the scheme.
She's been unemployed since last May, surely she could have found time to produce the figures to defend her case?
The ex chairwoman and ex-PM cannot answer questions about her own party's flagship policy.
No wonder they wouldn't let her debate against Apisit before the last election.
Remember ladies and gentlemen, never judge a book by its cover. The outside may be shiny and glossy, sleek and smelling fresh straight off the printing press but inside there may be just blank pages with an occasional footnote referring to Dubai.

"If [Yingluck] sends hired guns to answer for her, how will that be credible?"
From another perspective that has nothing to do with Yingluck, this is a ludicrous and hypocrital statement.
The NLA only exists because of the military coup. It owes its existence to the end of a gun aimed at the collective head of the Thai people. A majority of NLA membership is composed of military officers and 100% of the NLA was selected and appointed by the Junta leadership. The NLA has NO judicial, ethical, or moral credibility.
From a more realistic perspective that has all to do with the NLA trying to ask Ms. Yingluck a few more questions regarding her defence statement as it would seem she didn't address the issue of how her self-financing RPPS could lose hundreds of billion Baht.
Of course Ms. Yingluck may bring some hired help to pass questions but even then she'll be asked to confirm the answer provided is correct and she agrees with it.
As for legality, well although some seem to think Thailand is a lawless country we do have an Interim Constitution and lots of laws. It would seem Ms. Yingluck has flaunted laws and legality and her 'incensed' former Minister of Finance is a self-confessed teller of 'little' white lies.
But the scheme didn't help poor farmers.Farmers with less than 10 rai will use the rice for personal consumption. It's rich or farmers with plenty of land who benefitted.

He has invested in a housing project with Thaksin's son and the Japanese tea man Mr Tan
Connections may have helped delay any moves against him in the past.

Yingluck has consistently said there was nothing wrong with the rice policy.
Well she has a wonderful chance to go into details tomorrow .
But she won't be there because in truth she knows almost nothing and can only answer questions from a prepared speech.
She won't want to embarrass herself.

Banharn's opinion is worthless, he once said being in the Opposition meant a dry tbroat. Once he's gone so will his utterly self centred party.

Oh, come on. This is much much more than "strike one" and you know it. You just can't admit it.Strike one!!! Only 999.999 to go.
I'll admit that I'm surprised ... delightfully so. And, yes, there's much more to be done. But this major bust of upper echelon police officials is a very good move that well demonstrates the new governments words are actually being followed my real action.
Right now I'm sure there are a lot of corrupt cops, politicians, government officials, etc., etc. quaking in their boots and dreading the knock on the door. 555 I love it!
Again, for those trumpeting this as a big effort by the general, perhaps read the Thai chatter online, including from the hiso end of Thai Society....
It appears this is not an anti-corruption strike by the current government at all. But rather the result of a domestic umm reorganisation and the fallout for connected networks...
It may well be reported as part of a "crackdown".... but the chatter suggests that's just a happy coincidence. A bit too much triumphalism from those pro the current government who've had a rough few weeks methinks
Yes, posters need to realize who Pongpat is related to.

An overheard conversation somewhere in Japan:
" Pi Maeow, I've found a way for us to hold meeting and rallies whilst Uncle Tu is premier".
" And what do you propose , my sweet little clone sister?"
" It's quite simple really, my loveable squarehead brother".
" That's what I expected, my geographically challenged sibling, well, what is it?"
" Well you know we had a jolly get together at PiPia's cremation on Sunday and everything was fine with Uncle Tu because it was a cremation"
"Yes?"
"Well that's it! All we have to do from now on to have a meeting is ensure one of our esteemed members has passed on and we can all get together and cheer me after I light the pyre!."
" What an excellent idea my dear, thank you 3 times,......, now who can we persuade first to volunteer?"

Sitting pretty but impotently in the desert, counting the grains of sand as the years go by and he's still no nearer to coming home. All he can do is hope Prayud fails abysmally so come the next election the north and Issan are still loyal to his sad bunch of minions.
It is reality.
This would definitely be considered a "veiled threat"!Prayut is not stupid enough to do such a thing because one day he has to step down and continue living in the country. It is unlikely he would do anything which brings negative consequences onto himself."
I wonder how Prayuth will react to it?
Prayuth has mounted a tiger, if he ever wants to dismount without being devoured, there a certain things that he cannot do.
The General, though he appears not to realise it, is in a truly unenviable position.
Thaksin on the other hand, is sitting pretty.
Don't you red supporters feel ashamed that someone like Chalerm, a perfect example of the Thai patronage system at its worst, is his main supporter?

No one can doubt his intelligence or resolve to move Thailand forwards, especially in comparison to Pheua Thai dinosaurs such as Chalerm and Plodprasop, but he's handicapped by his privileged city boy image and will never be accepted by the farmers upcountry.
His time could come again but I think for now it's time for the Democrats to change leaders and install Dr Surin, however Mark is stubborn and still believes he's the best man for the job. He's become a bit authoritarian himself too, he said the ex Democrat MPs should not stand as candidates for the Reform Council, yet there was no party resolution stating this.

It's a difficult time for Thaksin lovers, galling perhaps.
Here's the General announcing reforms- land and inheritance tax, clampdown on various mafias, anti corruption measures, reforms in the Civil Service, all of which Pheua Thai could have undertaken with their majority but didn't do because they're beholden to their rich owner and his rich friends.
The General may well not succeed 100%, to change the mindset of Thais will take a generation at least. But he has started the ball rolling.
May the dinosaurs of money politics and patronage like Chalerm andThaksin wilt and waste away in the deserts of Dubai.

Doesn't say just when the case was brought to the court but apparently the report is over a year old so the charge could well have been laid before the army took over.
Just what Govt withdrew his passport is also unclear but I don't see how any Govt can withdraw someone's passport in the case of what should be a civil matter, IE a company saying they have been slandered.
However I suppose the company complained to whoever was in Govt at the time that the country name had been blackened and it was taken seriously by some civil servant or politician.
I can think of a host of others on far more serious matters deserving of having their passports taken from them.
Seeking 10 millionB from whom?
How can they, whoever they are, appropriate his passport, when he is not ' convicted' of anything? I think he is a twit to stay here, bur I admire the courage of his convictions. Don't suppose the Democratic Party are losing any sleep over this?
What It has to do with the Dem party I don't know but there is always someone has to be in for a cheap shot.
I believe Chalermachai Sri- on ,the former Secretary General of the Democrat Party is either the owner or on the board of Natural Fruit.

why should he be worried, he did what his boss paid him to do and made up and filed bogus charges, probably already spent his bonus for doing it anyway. What a weasel of a man this piece of excrement really is.
If the charges were "bogus" the OAG wouldn't have presented them to the court and the court would not have accepted them. Whatever you think of the man, the evidence exists, and as he says, it is now, or should be, up to the Supreme Court's Criminal Division for Political Office Holders to deal with the case. This is where the NACC truly shows it's colours.
The OAG decided not to prosecute Thaksin for inciting riots and unrest on the grounds he was not in Thailand!
Ludicrous, he's never heard of skype, telephones or email then.
so neutral!

This will be a powderkeg. They muist submit their asserts for public disclosure otherwise they will lose all credibility.

I believe that when the elections take place next year the military will form a party, including Sudarat and Newin. They will try to attract politicians from both Pheua Thai and the Democrats, but I think they will have more success with Pheua Thai.
The constitution will undoubtedly weaken political parties, perhaps include provisions such as it's unnecessary to belong to a political party for any length of time, thus encouraging MP buying, ie back to the past.
This will lead to opposition from the established parties, the Democrats and Pheua Thai, but in the end both will jockey for power with the new party set up by the military.
Good luck to General Prayud with reforms, he has Thailand's interests at heart and he is a good man, but I do hope he learns to soften his language and gestures, otherwise he will face opposition all round.

'Thaksin orders...' 5555,he's the past, even though Thai people have a tendency to love authoritarianism, a 'strong leader', it's time to move on, history is against the patronising tone of Thaksin.
Many of the the working class are working in Korea, Singapore, Israel, many or their relatives are married to or know foreigners, 'the phu yai knows best, can help fix your problems', the patronage system... it's fading, even though someone with as much money as Thaksin thinks he can still 'control the game'.
The twin grandchildren is a desperate attempt to portray the human touch, 'hey, we're all the same rich and poor, we love our families' but it won't work.
Red shirts, please find decent local community leaders, not scum like Arisaman.
Can you do it?

Sorry to miss your subtlety fabs but to call the cases against Thaksin a 'witchhunt' is truly laughable. That's ironic too, right?
No it's not laughable. It's completely accurate. That's not to say that Thaksin wasn't guilty of some or all the relatively minor various offences he was charged with,However we know from Wikileaks and other sources that the establishment was desperate to tie some offence on him (leaving aside of course the human rights offences it was also implicated in).If it makes it easier for you to grasp, Khun Abhisit was no doubt guilty of offences he was charged with (actually much more serious than those of Thaksin) but I have little doubt there was something of a witchhunt against him.In short it's perfectly possible to be guilty of an offence and simultaneously be the victim of a witchhunt.Anwar in Malaysia is another example
Sorry jayboy, I don't regard some of the offences Thaksin has been charged with or accused of as minor, namely policy corruption, changing of laws to benefit his own companies, massive concealment of shares in others' names- what for if not to indulge in stock manipulation? Deals with Burma to benefit his companies, loans approved to bankrupt companies.
All aside from the human rights abuses, 2,500 dead from the drug war, warnings to governors to reach targets or else.
His crimes stretch a mile long so he ran unlike Apisit and Suthep.
Meanwhile, back to Sonthi.
It's obvious you have not read the stuff that they don't want you to read.
Sigh! Some things cannot be written about on open forums in Thailand, but they do not detract from the alleged and proven crimes of the great dictator, Thaksin.

I think she'll be back, for now. Her case will take at least a year before the final verdict, in the meantime a lot could happen. Plus she has most of her assets here as far as I know.
Still, where's this bridge Rametindallas? Not at Sangkhlaburi by any chance?!

Wat Thammakai and the SSC and both worried now. No longer protected by Shinawats, all the dodgy dealings of millions of baht between the co-operative and the temple, the land purchases and private accounts are at risk of being exposed, along with the extremely suspicious rulings of the SSC.
Well done Khun Paiboon and Phra Buddha Isara.
Forward with reform of the temples and all their crooked dealings!
