Taking a bunch of friends out to dinner on the 18th or 19th, no firm date yet, but definatly planning on the Blues Factory for drinks afterwards.

I will post a propper thead when I get to los and have a firm date.

Kerryd, I've been in the giant catbox known as Iraq for 2 years myself! Can tell war stories over cold beer! the 19th looks good if your not to jet lagged!

  2. Ice cubes, wont be there in Dec. (as of now) have to come back to work, but I will be going to Thailand as much as possible. Looking forward to meeting many of you sometime in the future....I'm allways up for a cold one! :o

  3. I was seriously thinking of changing my name from Howler to "thread Killer"! :D

I can imagine the ex-pats living in Pattaya see enough drunken idiots to turn them off, and close ranks. Completely understandable. I'm a "newbie" and am embarassed by the crap I see people do.

When I said "no harm no foul" it was true, I'm sure if I see any members while I am there, we will share a few pints and even more laughs, even though we wont know who we are drinking with.

I will be out and about, Hope to see some of you.

howler, let's get serious here then.

    <snip>

Ok heard of King Kong on a few different threads now, got me curious, "fly you to the moon" has she seen my avitar? :o

Fly in 2 days...God I need this trip.

    Thanks guys!!!!!!

  5. I have a tattoo on my shoulder that is 23 years old, and it is showing its age. I have done some research on the web and know what it takes and how long it takes. I was wondering if anyone knows of any reputable laser technitians in Pattaya, or possibly BKK? Or better yet, has anyone done this?

  6. I tnink you have been given good advice by several members re the beers to serve (Heineken,Chang ,Tiger and Singha)  IMHO, Thais know how to drink lots of beer but they have limited funds and the brewing industry in this country is controlled by two huge companies.

Thai Beverages (Chang Beer and various brands of liquor passing themselves off as whisky) The owner of Thailand's biggest liquor company,Charoen Sirivadhanbhakdi is also the richest man in the kingdom and a good buddy of President Toxin. Khun Charoen is one of Thailand’s wealthiest individuals and also owns the Imperial Hotel Group. His influence extends deeply into the government as it is said that he is close to Prime Minister Thaksin Shinawatra. Therefore, he pretty much dictates the government’s alcohol taxation policies.

Khun Charoen operates Thailand’s biggest brewery, Beer Thai, and the Sang Som Group, Thailand’s biggest distillery. Thailand is one of the few remaining nations which still favors cheap, hard whisky rather than more moderate beverages.

That  is why working class Thais drink crap whisky with their food rather than beer as it is actually a cheaper drunk for them.

The Boon Rawd brewery which produces Singha and Leo is run by a small family clan

    Mr. Chamnong Bhirombhakdi

    Mr. Vudha Bhirombhakdi

    Mr. Piya Bhirombhakdi

    Mr. Santi Bhirombhakdi

    Mr. Vapee Bhirombhakdi

    Mr.Chutinant Bhirombhakdi

    Mr. Palit Bhirombhakdi

Thus with these two  huge companies controlling the industry there is little chance of getting good imported beers at reasonable prices. This also applies to wine, cider, and goodquality Scotch whiskies and not the chemical imitations sold here. However the likes of these tycoons and other cronies of Toxin can afford to drink all the expensive wine and whisky that they want. Just keep it out of price range of the riff raff.

Thais are not discriminating drinkers. The stronger the better, the quicker they are flat out.

    Sorry about the ramble. :o

Is there anyway around it? They punish anybody trying to bring in imporrted beer? How much more does it cost to import beer?

Interesting points here. One would think with all of the Farangs in BKK that you could form a consortium and together import the favorite brews from around the world. But might not be worth the trouble. We would all love a place to have a drink from our home countries....but TIT

  7. Just curious, plan on showing American football? Going to Pattaya next week and so far dont know if I can catch the games. I'm sure BKK is a different story.

Oh yeah, :D I'll be showing American football, both college and the pros!

Just to clarify, will you also be showing proper sports like:

    - sailing

    - rugby

    - boxing/K1

    - rugby league

    - snowboarding and skiing

or just poofter games like NFL? :D

    For beers please have:

    Kessels (nice and strong)

    Lion Ice

    For other refreshments (not beer)

    - Shandy for the ladies

    - MGD for the ladies

    - Coors (for cleaning the toilet)

    Poofter Games????

    Prfer sailing do ya? :o

  8. Didnt France also try to enforce a ban on Muslim female students from wearing thier traditional head wrap, only to back down in the end.

I don't recall them backing down. Muslim schoolgirls cannot wear a headcovering to school in France.

I have a French Muslim (non-religious, non-practicing) brother-in-law. He came to the US due to the discrimination against Muslims in France. (Unfortunately, he's a pilot, and was applying for his green card just about 9/11. Things were uncomfortable for a while) In France he was unable to get a job, that kind of thing. It reminds me very much of the racial discrimination in the US.

I'm sorry to hear that :o

  9. um.....err.......John.....I'm starting to worry about you! :D

Please, dont let me get too drunk! :D  :D

Don't think there's any force on earth that will stop you getting too drunk :D

Dont worry Howler, I'm ok.....really, trust me :burp::o

But come on you gotta admit the the one in black outside Tony's is better looking than the winner of Miss International Queen. No ???

Agreed, definately better looking, but we've all seen better looking ones just strolling down walking street.... now you've got me doing it!!! :D

I know your OK John, I've met your missus, just having a little fun :D

As far as drinking...you havent seen anything yet! And I'm taking you with me this time

    :D:D

  10. I am opening a sports bar in BKK, hopefuly by May/June 2006 and I was wondering whtat everybody favorite drink is.  I want to have a collection of favorite brews from around the world-particular to certain places-U.S., Germany, Austrlaia, New Zealand, Japan, ect.

Sports Bar...Beer...Finally something on this forum I have some knoweldge about :D

Although I hate Hienekin in the states, its actually pretty good in LOS. But usually stick to Bud Light when back home. Cant find it anywhere in Pattaya :o

Just curious, plan on showing American football? Going to Pattaya next week and so far dont know if I can catch the games. I'm sure BKK is a different story.

    post-2109-1130848232_thumb.jpg

I must admit the one in black on the left wasn't half bad  :o  well at least compared to the winner  of Miss International Queen..the winner there should have been the  half American half Thai girl  she was fluent in both Thai and English and much better looking than Mini Mart  :D

um.....err.......John.....I'm starting to worry about you! :D

Please, dont let me get too drunk! :D:D

  13. Hey Jesse, All the Canuks I know say 'Eh" at the end of thier sentances. I've never met one that procedes everything with.... "Ha". You might want to drop that. Maybe go for the whole pirate thing, you know "Arhhg". (tongue firmly in cheek)

Anyway, spent a year in S. Korea at your age, and absolutely loved it, even though I was technically married at the time! :o Took me over 20 years to start exploring again. Have fun even if it is only 3 months, I have to warn you though Thailand gets in your blood....you will be back...if you leave!

Really work on that whole "ha" thing.

  14. France to Let Rioters Govern Themselves -- Satire

After seven nights of riots by youth in predominantly-Muslim sections of Paris, French Prime Minister Dominique de Villepin (who is a man) announced today that police would pull out of areas where dozens of cars burn each night to “let the freedom-fighting insurgents govern themselves.”

“Just like the United States should not force democracy upon Muslims in Iraq,” said Mr. de Villepin, “we should not impose our own provincial thinking about the so-called ‘rule of law’ on Muslim immigrants who have established a homeland in Paris. We’re withdrawing our occupation forces immediately.”

The Prime Minister, who, when he was Foreign Minister, vigorously opposed the U.S.-led war against Saddam Hussein’s Iraq, today enthusiastically endorsed self-determination for “these peaceful religious people in our midst. :D

I saw this article in another newspaper, with the bit about it beeing the Muslim areas deleted. Oddly enough in the Mid East edition Stars And Stripes (and everyone accuses the US of propaganda). Didnt France also try to enforce a ban on Muslim female students from wearing thier traditional head wrap, only to back down in the end. I hate to use the term "rifle droppers" when refering to the French...but what else can you say. They have absolutely no back bone. France has the largest concentration of Muslims in Europe. This is going to be a real problem (I allready think it is) for France and all of Europe if something isnt done.

Did you hear that the French gov. has raised the terror threat from "Run and Hide" to "Surrender and Colaberate" ?! :o
