If you can't understand what he is getting at then you have not experienced the Issan culture.  I live in far northern Thai and the village is of Issan extraction/culture and what he says about the tools I and all my friends, even one of Chinese heritage, have told me the same experience.   Now the food thing might be a tad overstated, but not by much....

Thank you sir..., for using your special skill......,

     and stating the blindingly obvious.????

  2. Thanks for your entertaining and informative posts. On my next trip to the LOS, I'd like to venture up that way..., probably by bus and rail. I've been to Chiang Mai many times and also down to the south east but never up into the belly of Isaan proper..., so I'll continue to read and learn.
    Thank you.

  3. I've always enjoyed flying in and out of Perth to Bangkok with Thai Airways on their 787 'Dreamliner'.., I thought they were smooth, quiet and had good IFE..., and if I chose my return flight with care I sometimes could purloin a row of seats(arm-rests up, sleepy time)..., however they've comparatively recently changed the aircraft on this TG route to the Airbus A330.

Can anyone who has flown on both planes and this route, give me  some comparisons ?

  4. What about that "fart in a can" gear ? I reckon that might get a result..., although maybe not the result that anyone might want.
Or for that matter a "poo poo cushion" aimed in the general direction and 'blurted' might do the trick..., maybe buy you some time to decamp in a awayward direction .
    Ahhh, I crack myself up....,

  5. No, I don't believe so ..., on probability there is no god...., or if there was/is..., he/she is on really, really..., really..., long service leave...., and when it comes down to it...., what service would that be ?

Well, hush up my typing fingers !

..., obviously, I require and old school interventionist god.

  6. I plan to take train from Bkk to CM..., don't mind paying for 1st class sleeper..., but unsure which one to book...., leaning towards allowing for morning sunrise view before arrival in CM.
    - Any suggestions from previous travellers.
I have heard some 'discrete libations' can be consumed..., in privacy..., in the evening.
    - Just quietly..., anyone have experience of this ?
I do understand the A/C can be cold..., so dress accordingly..., also A/C is reported to be amenable in 1st class.
    - Can anyone confirm or nay this ?

  7. Would love a drop or 2 of rain down here in Oz...., yesterday I had to go down to the creek to chuck a bucket of dust over me to cool down.

It might be "On Nineteen"  coffee shop.      Next to a 7 Eleven and about 25 M before  the Honey Hotel.

Yes it is "On Nineteen" ..., do you know what happened to the original guy who set it up..., I think a guy from Queensland and his wife, a Thai lady ?

All this Loy Krathong thing on Monday night?   That's the night of the giant moon rising, so get your seat along the river marked out.

We'll be up on the roof(I can almost feel a song coming on) in the designated BBQ area..., hope it's not cloudy :wai:

  10. Sometime it seems as if the whole world is becoming more dangerous...., I can't say..., I mean how does one empirically quantify 'more dangerous'..., there's more than just a kettle of red herring right there. On a pro-rata population basis simplicity itself dictates that all countries where population is increasing have an increasing amount 'danger'. Are Americans more at risk that anyone else ?
How does anyone quantify such a thing without a super-duper computer and an algorithm that would bamboozle a quantum mathematician (is there such a thing ?).
I would think it easier to work out why so many Americans are taking 'Trump' seriously ? Are they afraid ?

  11. As you'll probably already have sussed...., Surf wise, the general Phuket area gives you the most options (mainly during monsoonal activity)......, including possible closer access to the surf on Myanmar's northern coastline. The surf options available on that coastline will generally become more well known in time. wai.gif You might be better off heading westwards to the Andaman's for your surf fix.

  12. Many years ago while travelling around Laos, I visited a pretty special place that I now cannot remember the name of and I am wondering if it is still operating. To get there I took a bus drive out of Vientiane to a river..., from where I took a small local boat along the river to this rather rustic 'eco' retreat up on the riverbank. It was just simple bamboo and locally rough sawn timber huts with a larger communal open sided kitchen..., genset power etc etc..., surrounded by light jungle and run by I think a European guy and his Lao wife.
Anyway, does anyone know if it's still operating ? And can you provide me with some info on it or if it's no longer operating, something similar ?
