My besty is married to a Japanese woman for over 25 years. They are financialy well off.2 young kids.He let her get away with all this "my culture is different " <deleted> in the early days ,to explain her weird behaviour. And at the beginning it was kinda cute.Over the years she became more controlling and unreasonable. Now she has transformed into a real life Godzilla who doesnt stop nagging and making his life an unbelievable misery from dawn till dusk.He has zero sex life as they havent even slept together in years. He cannot get out of the relationship coz he will lose most of his assets and he is terrified of coming home to find she has taken the kids to Japan to live.
I worry for his mental health at times.
Hope you have a better outcome.

Get someone to put your junk in storage, leave your money in Thailand. Rent another room remotely, move your junk to that room, leave your money in Thailand. Thanks for stating the bleeding obvious mate.
Those options that are really non-sensical , difficult or impossible to do from overseas when I have no idea of a possible return date.
You seem to miss the point.....that I am locked out of Thailand and requesting sensible advice on when people in my situation may be able to return.

I am overseas and cannot return to my home in Thailand. The lack of information is so frustrating....Does the government want retirees to leave Thailand permanently and look at other countries to live in?
I cant get a timeline from anyone or the Embasy on Non O Visa retirees returning.
Surely we could be given the same consideration as Married Visa status to return to Thailand.
Myself and many others must be in the same situation. My Retirement Visa expires in a few weeks. Lease on my condo will expire in a month. I am locked out of Thailand with no information on a possible return date.
After 10 years of living in Thailand the only option I see for now, is to abandon my personal items and transfer my money out of Thailand.
Really hoping the Gov't will give us retirees a timeline so we can make a plan to return.

There must be hundreds of long term Retirees like me stranded abroad. We contribute a large amount of money to the Thai economy.
Does anyone know when the Thai border will be open for Retirement Visa holders who are stranded overseas to return to Thailand?
In my case my Thai Retirement Visa will expire within a month and i cannot return but hoping long term Visa holders can return soon.
Interested to hear how many others are in the same situation.
Can I request Ubon Joe to give me your take on the status of Retirement Visa holders trying to return to Thailand.
I dont see any reference to this group in any government announcements.

Any reliable information available for those stranded outside Thailand with a current Non O Retirement Visa?
In my case my current Non O Visa will expire on July.
So I'm really hopeful that Thailand is open before then , so as to avoid a nightmaree visa renewal at the local consulate.

Here it gets a little tricky we have Pattaya City Hospital which is a pretty new hospital but to be honest it's more like a clinic most procedures other than very common stuff cannot be done there they send you to another place. Banglamung Hospital can do things most things but it's the hospital that all the Thais go to and anyone that doesn't have any kind of insurance or money goes and the wait's are horrific. I registered with Queen Savang Vadhana this was chosen by our HR lady where I was working it's 20 km outside of Pattaya but it's excellent. I had my hips replaced here and they did an outstanding job very organized.

I don't think you'll have any trouble in rayong I have friends that live here in Pattaya that I have recommended go to that office and they have not rejected them. As a matter of fact they've been far more helpful to them then the other office in Sriracha who insisted they couldn't get the benefits any longer because they were foreigners which was totally untrue.
Yes in 1 QuikTrip you'll be able to apply for reimbursement of your Social Security that you paid into the system and from the same bank account which you want them to pay that money into you can have them take out your voluntary payments that will continue your medical. I think you will find this to be very fast and easy in rayong.

Awesome...thanks for the prompt reply and update.....Rayong it is...just a note that when I made the same inquiry at Silom office in BKK I got fed the same BS response that falang cannot have medical cover.I started to debate the point with the staff member but gave up in frustration

I went through this just a short time ago. I finished working cancelled my work permit went down to Social Security in Lam chabang to collect my Social Security payout that I have paid in as well as set up paying my contribution to continue my medical insurance. Getting them to approve my money to be sent to my bank account was no problem but they then told me I could not continue my medical without having a yellow book with my name in it. I had never heard of this before and was told by a friend this was not the case. He told me to go to the rayong Social Security office. I did and was in and out within 15 minutes having set up my voluntary deductions to continue my medical insurance at the government Hospital. I have since Been Told that in Lam chabang they are very uncooperative which I found to be very true. I wonder how many people give up not knowing that the information they're getting from them as false. In any event it was a matter of filling out three forms which were all in Thai I had a friend with me that filled them out. You submit them to staff and then the following 15th of the month they started to deduct the 432 Baht from my bank account.
Good info...hereforgood......I am in exactly the same situation.....i am planning on going to the Rayong office (to do the voluntary payments registration) as it sounds much easier to deal with.....only concern I have is the fact that as I now reside in Pattaya they may not process my application there and refer me back to Lam Chabang office.
Also note you say you were able to refund your previous payments and keep medical cover on a voluntary payments basis?.......I thought you had to cancel your fund membership to access the lump sum payments

1 month ago I relocated from a rented condo in Bangkok to a new address in a rented condo in Pattaya.I filed a new TM30 after arriving at Pattaya. No problem.....
However no mention was made of any requirement to lodge a TM 28 change of address form. So , should I have and do I now need to lodge the TM 28?

Nothing has been confirmed about it being required for extensions of stay based upon retirement. At this time it is only for those applying for a OA long stay visa at a embassy.
I don't think you have anything to worry about.
Until the requirements come out officially it is not possible to answer that question.
Thanks ubonjoe.... my understanding was that the medical cover was required for Non Immigrant O -Retirement visa.
So just to confirm what you say,......that medical cover is not a requirement?

You can apply up to 45 days early. So that is about June 6th.
Thanks ubonjoe.
Can you advise on the medical insurance requirement.
Given my Non O retirement visa was issued on 23rd April ,Is medical insurance a requirement when applying for the extension?
I have a Thai Social Security Office heath care card , but im not sure if that is acceptable in voiding the need for medical insurance.

I have my 90 day Non-O-Retirement which was issued on 23rd April 2019 and admitted until 21 July 2019.
Can anyone confirm what is the EARIEST date i can apply for the 1 year extention?
I intend to apply at Chiang Wattanna.
Thanks

With a foreign Will, no. Foreign Wills cannot cover assets in Thailand. With a Thai Will the nationality of the beneficiary is irrelevant as the Executor can distribute cash assets as soon as probate is granted and the banks distribute the cash to the Executor
So, as a foreigner a Thai Will is required for my overseas benificiaries to access the funds in my Thai bank upon my death?
Thanks for the advice and you are quite likely correct. However, is there a formal reference that would verify that?
I am curious to know if most expats actually have a Thai Will?
What happens to a foreigners assets without a Thai Will?
I have never considered making one, but perhaps i need to do so.

I have directed this question around the holding of cash assets ( not property /land or business dealings).
Many foreigners (self included) have substantial cash assets deposited for various amounts of time in Thai banks, for visa requirements and other purposes.
In my case , i have a legal Will in which all my assets are passed to my beneficiaries who reside in my home country. I have no Thai wife or girlfriend.
In the event of a foreigners death ( with no Thai benificaries) what happens to the cash assets held in a Thai bank?
I cannot imagine that it would be easy for a foreign benificary to walk into a Thai bank and make a claim on these assets. Even with a legal foreign Will in hand.
I know this is a long shot ,but im interested to know if the banks actually have a process or pro forma, where a foreigners cash assets apon death, can be transferred to a pre determined nominated benificary residing outside Thailand ?
What is the legal process required for a foreign benificary to claim cash held in Thailand. Is a Thai Will required to bequeath ,cash assets held in Thailand , to a foreign benificiary?
Also i think the overseas transfering of any funds would also be very problematic for any benificary. How would they ,could they ,do this?

The 90-Day Non-IMM O is your "Retirement Visa" about 60 days into it, you should apply for an Extension to Stay which extend you permission to stay by 1 year
Do note this is not a 1 year Visa, you must get a re-entry permit (Single 1,000, Multi 3,500) if you leave the country & want to come back during the year
Edit to add: the 90-Day is a Single entry visa which will already have been marked as used, so again if you want to leave & re-enter Thailand before it's extended, you must get a Re-Entry permit - This will only last for the remainder of the 90 days, when you get your extension, you need another re-entry permit which will last for the lifetime of the permission to stay (Multi Re-Entry) or Single use...
Yes..... thanks .....as you have described is also my understanding .

In this case I believe the OP is not applying for a retirement extension, but converting an entry to a non-Imm-O, 90 day entry.
Thats correct jacko45k.....For clarrity..........I applied for the Non Immigrant 90 day visa on a TM 87 form. I was changing from a permitted 30 day stay (obtained at the airport on arrival/entry ) to a Non Immigrant 90 day visa.
The reason i gave on my Non Immigrant visa application was for "retirement" purposes. So i will apply for the Retirement visa once i am issued with the 90 day Non Immigrant , at the required submission timeframe.

Not needed to apply for an extension of stay based upon retirement.
Update...........Two Division 1 immigration officers visited my condo....some sort of document was duly signed by the condo management.....photos of my passport/bank passbook/ photos of me at the condo lobby , inside and outside my condo and together with the officers and the management ..then wai's and smiles all round...... bye bye....
The officer informed me this process is now a one off requirement for new 90 day Non Immigrant visa applications for Retirement. This will only done for the first year.
30 minutes later and done now, and hopefully she is correct
Just posting my experience in applying for the 90 day Non Immigrant (Retirement) for others in a similair situation.

About 2-3 years ago in Surin/Buriram province we were all, registered, subjected to a home visit. Irrespective of what extension one had. We were also to provide two witnesses to provide proof of us living there and being of good character.
The OP isn't being picked on personally. Only fault I find in his story is that he paid the fine for the landlord not providing the TM 30. Not his problem and should have refused. Did the OP get a receipt for the fine?
Thats not a typo...yes i was fined.....
This was my second day long visit to apply for a visa. After the previous visits application not being processed. That was due to required documentaion NOT being on the checklist ( a TM 30 and a map).
It was just easier to bite my tongue, apologize for the landlords error ,pay the fine and get on with the application there and then.
The alternative was another visa run out of Thailand and then start the process all over again

Thailand reports 216 new COVID-19 cases - 1 additional death
in Thailand News
Posted
So 3000 more cases in just over 2 weeks, meaning Covid cases almost doubled in that period.
Real question is how many tests were done to identify those new cases?
Case numbers are fudged and meaningless without the testing numbers for the corresponding period
