As a farang who has no political history or bias in Thailand, it's pretty clear to me that the country was running under a virtual dictatorship when Mr T was in charge. The 310:0 amnesty vote proved that. It is a shocking testament to Thai society that every single MP in the government was bought. Of course that is because they were all selected at the Dubai interview for that very reason.
If people cannot see that Prayuth is genuinely doing what is right to try and recover the mess Pheu-Thai and the UDD created, they are either stupid and/or (probably 'and') actually want a government which buys their support by actively encouraging corruption, cheating and scamming.
The most amusing part is all those in the Thai media crying foul who kept quiet while Pheu-Thai did the same things 10 times worse. Respect = zero. I particularly see it from Bangkok Post who I thought were quite good when I first came here. It's clear someone high up took Mr T's shilling.
This is either the most biased or most naive post in this thread. Given your first sentence one would assume the most naive. Calling others stupid is a little ironic. Equating opposition to the current situation as unfettered support for Thaksin is, in fact, stupid.
That aside your post is solid.I think the stupidity lies with those who believe that a military ictatorship can be agent of positive and progressive change. What real motivation does this regime of generals and the elite have to make changes when under the current structure, that they have created, they are at the top of the heap?

The General is playing his cards wrong, he should just ignore those folks and remove them from the site, not arrest them and have an "attitude adjustment". He should be playing the good cop role and ignore criticisms and keep his cool. Down his ratings go, really don't understand the mindset of these politicians. How hard is it to act like Yingluck in public?
Seems the 5 have been released without charge. Maybe the good general and his mates got a sniff of what was brewing on campuses across the country this morning and decided not to poke the students at the minute. Maybe it could be a change of approach along the lines of what you are proposing Mike.
It's also been suggested that the generals security was a tad lax during his visit to Khon Kaen. Rumour has it that there were at least a dozen spottings during the day where a person with ill-intent could have caused chaos. Maybe the general and his security staff knew that the peace loving citizens of his host city would only wish him the best of health.

German national attacked in Udon Thani - Udon-News visited the victim in hospital
18.11.2014 - 14:38
Michael S. (25) was sitting outdoors by a lake in Udon Thani on November the 15th at 3 o'clock in the morning, along with a Thai friend and his girlfriend. Three young Thais passed by on a moped and verbally abused the group. No one thought anything of it until they came back 15 minutes later.
2 boys dismounted and approached the group. One had a garden hoe, and he struck Michael several times on the head, with full force.Read more here: http://udon-news.com/en/news/german-national-attacked-in-udon-thani-udon-news-visited-the-victim-in-hospital

give every southener an ak 47 and the problem will solve itself
As for the 3 southern border provinces of Pattani, Yala and Narathiwat, in which the majority of the people are Muslims, a recent census by the Ministry of Interior shows that the inhabitants of these provinces can be grouped by religion as follows :
Total
Muslim
1.4 million
Buddhist
.43 million
Christian
0.01 million

Do you really want to give every one of them an AK47?

Things are being exposed at a rapid rte of fire.
Lets hope that everyone is equal before the law. If she did wrong get her but don't stop there. Go all the way - politicians, public servants and army officers of all rank and status. Open this Pandora's box.

Something, at some stage, is going to be the spark that ignites the fire that unleashes the full force of a citizenry demanding their rights and freedoms be restored.
This could be it!
Or maybe the 600 million baht land sale he made to a company called 69 Property last year, when fully exposed, will be the last straw. These Thai Prime Ministers and their land deals.........

Some interesting insights into what the FCO is thinking in this article: http://www.eadt.co.uk/news/foreign_commonwealth_office_answer_our_10_questions_on_the_hannah_witheridge_case_1_3820462
■ How confident is the FCO that those responsible for the killings will be brought to justice?
We want to see the perpetrators of this crime brought to justice and we have asked the Thai authorities to keep our Embassy in Bangkok closely informed on their investigation.
The British government cannot interfere in Thailand’s judicial proceedings, just as other governments are unable to interfere in our own judicial processes.
That said, we are very concerned by the allegations of corruption and mistreatment of the suspects and it is very important that whoever committed these murders is brought to justice.
We call for the investigation to be conducted in a fair and transparent way, in line with international standards.
Seems the FCO are providing the BIB and government with enough rope and leaving it up to them as to what they do with it.

PM Prayut asks public not to assume all police to be crooked
in Thailand News
Posted
Are you talking about the police or the army. Is there any difference? Maybe that explains the generals statement.
