  1. Yes my aqi device has those numbers, it's showing 69 now with pm2.5 21µg/m3 while my xiaomi air purifier running at full speed all night is just showing one big number that i dont know what it correspond to that is 12.

    - with 140 µg/m3, there seems to be something wrong ..

    - did you check the filter, is it correct installed?

    - to get better results you also need to improve the sealing of your windows and your inside doors,

it will make a big different. with the high outside level of pm2.5, before i hardly got my rooms under 15 µg/m3

if using the sleep mode (very quiet).

    - now in the bedrooms (20 m2) i do get about 7 µg/m3 (pm2.5), and this in the sleep mode from a

sharp air purifier (for 24m2) . and this with outside air about 180 - 220 µg/m3!!

Where exactly do you read those numbers ? Same question to anyone who is satisfied with the xiaomi ? Do you read it on the xiaomi machine ? Because right now mine is showing 11 in my bedroom so great right ? Yes but my aqi calculator device is showing 65.... I believe it to be more accurate.

  3. Of course I set it to maximum speed. There are 3 speed levels : night, auto and dynamic. Night and auto are both worthless. I have to set it 24/7 to dynamic to get results. Can't wait to see the bill at the end of month. So yes i assume my place is too leaky because as soon as i stop it the aqi goes back pretty fast to outside level.

With PM2.5, you have to wonder why more attendees aren't wearing masks.  High 300s indoors today but the Xiaomi Mi 2S I received yesterday is keeping the Family Room decent.

You can really notice the difference when you step out into the kitchen.  Have just ordered another (Lazada, Rabbit Shop, 4299 baht)

I also got the xiaomi mi 2s and i'm strongly unsatisfied with it. Can't get below 140 right now

Ok, I won't. There are so many other diseases I'll be susceptible to dying from than a week's worth of toxic air -- or more, who knows. I'm sure my 20 years of smoking (ended 30 years ago) has already done the damage. Anyway, this weeks smog hasn't even watered my eyes, or caused a cough. Would love to see the mountains again, but they'll eventually reappear.

So, please send your negatives about CM to all those retirement magazines that keep promoting this place.

It actually takes 20 years after quitting smoking for your lungs to fully recover and be as healthy as a never smoker.

I wonder if it's the same thing for those pm2.5 small enough to go deep into lungs' alveoli and the blood vessels ie if you have been living in a city with strong air pollution for a long time, would your body fully recover as well by moving to a city with a green aqi year round ?

  6. Do we know if the air is at least less worse in public places, malls, hospitals... How about gyms ? Can they use big ass air purifiers or at least filters on their aircons or would it be too inefficient ?

Also I produce an insane amount of bogeys EEWWW (odly mostly from right nostril) with sometimes blood in it. Sometimes it's too plugged for me to breath serenely.  I'm wondering if it's normal and simply a consequence of the air pollution or could it be something more ? I'd go see a doctor but I'm guessing right now they must all be over overbooked with more serious stuff and I'm maybe 90% confident it can only be caused by the pollution (i didnt have it a month back when i was in my home country) so i'd probably be wasting both the doctors time and mine.

  7. I'm looking for a gym in chiang mai that offers more than just providing the gym equipment. (English is not my native langage I struggled to make this sentence clearer)

I want to get into weightlifting. I was in my hometown for a short holiday and I found an awesome gym and I hope I can find something similar here in chiang mai if that exist.

So let me explain what I found cool at my hometown gym : I had a key (like a usb key) that I plug into the central machine when I arrive. The machine gives me my training program for the day. The program adapts itself by looking at my previous results and going up in intensity as I progress or going down if I struggle to finish some excercices. Then most weightlifting machines are equipped with a screen. I have to plug my key so my performance can be recorded and that screen has a "guide me" video in case im not sure i'm doing the exercice right with the posture and also a progress bar as I'm doing the exercice (again dont know how to explain in english but you can see it in the screenshot) This thing helped me a lot understand how to lift. Basically exercices are meant to be done slowly to be more efficient, much more slowly that i was doing them. The counting of the reps and the minute pause is awesome as well because I can focus on the exercice without having to count anything. The automated tracking of my progress is a huge time saver.

Yes of course all of this can be learned with a good coach. I tried twice and was very dissapointed twice. Both times went the same way : I arrive there and meet a thai coach who barely speaks english then he makes me lift weight, exercice after exercice after exercice until I literally can't lift a pen and he tells me OK see you tmr... So I leave the place feeling like while I worked very hard, learned nothing and will remain dependant on a coach forever thus having to pay 10k/month for coaching (could be wrong about the price)

This is not what I want. I need coaching to get me started until I know enough to do my own programs etc... I found my hometown gym being good at that and I wonder if i can find something similar in chiang mai. And it's not some kind of luxury gym, the price was 45e/month. Maybe the Maya gym ? I remember going there and laughing at the price (4 or 5k/month) but now I think if it is similar to the one in my hometown I'm willing to pay for that added value.

  8. Hi

I'm interested in your opinion about thai doctors in general. Are they as competent as in the west ? Don't they try hard to overtreat their patients ?
I myself and some of my friends have had bad experiences. Here are examples :

    1) Recently I woke up with testicular pain in my right nut so I went to the hospital. I read that in this situation the standard procedure is to 1st eliminate serious stuff like testicular torsion and others. But the nurses simply told me to wait 2h (???) for the infection doctor to arrive. So right away they know it's an infection ? Without even looking ?? They only asked me 2 questions : if I felt pain when peeing and if my pee had an unusual color. I replied no to both questions and that's it. Then the infection doctor came and barely touched me. Not that I enjoy being touched in this area by a men I really dont but wasn't he supposed to at the very least do a palpation ? He didn't. He just took a look and comfirmed yes it's an infection without adding anything more before giving me a treatment. All he said was it COULD be from unprotected sex. I never had unprotected sex. Anyway the treatment is ongoing and the pain dropped but is still here...

    2) A friend of mine had violent throat pain. So bad he couldn't eat anything. He went to the hospital and was told he need throat chirurgical intervention immediately. They were ready to take him to the chirurgical room. My friend begged them to run some more tests. He insisted so much that they accepted. After that they gave him some pills and he started feeling better 1h later... No chirurgical intervention was needed at all.

3)About dental health. I keep hearing dental health is world class here.
I did a total of 3 tooth cleaning since I'm in Thailand. All 3 times it was much longer, much more incomfortable than in my home country and even painful. In my home country a tooth cleaning has never been painful. I had my last one 2 weeks ago I still feel pain in my teeth. I took an appointment with a dentist in my home country for when I will be back there in 6 months and I swore to myself I will never go back to a dentist clinic in Thailand unless I have no choice. I don't know what they do differently but they do differently and it's painful.
Also they keep proposing me orthodontic treatment. Last time I was in my home country I asked my dentist and he said no I don't need an orthodontic treatment unless I care about aesthetic. But he said it would be useless because my tongue put pressure on my teeth so if I don't treat this issue first my teeth will always go back to the same position. Just for the fun of it I decided to try 10 orthodontic doctors in Thailand to see how many of them would have the same answer as my hometown dentist. 7 of them proposed me a treatment right away and started discussing payment plans. 3 of them comfirmed what my hometown dentist said, that an orthodontic treatment would be a waste of time and money for me.

My confidence in thai doctors competence has dropped so low that everytime i go back home I run check ups and do consultations and when I'm in Thailand unless it's an emergency I avoid going to the hospital.

  9. Hello

I don't know anything about farming, absolutely nothing at all. But I'm falling in love with a girl. I have money, she have lands from her parents. She tells me it's very possible to make a decent living from growing stuff and having knowledge about it isnt very important because you can just hire workers for 6k thb/month and they do everything for you LOL I'm not naive. I can only guess she has to at least be exagerating a lot.

My question is if I want to learn everything I need to know about farming, agriculture, just living off the land in general what are my options if I want to do it from here in Thailand ? Is there education available to farangs ? What kind of education ? Like school ? Do you think it's best to just learn by myself and do like my girlfriend tell me just buy and get workers to do the job for me at first ?

  10. How can they be unsafe if I know how to jump I don't get it ? It the water not deep enough ? are those concrete boards about to collapse if I climb up ??

I know the canyon but got bored a little bit by having to swim, climb and walk barefoot on rocks so much for every jump. But defenetly a very nice spot. Do you know if there are other spots similar to the canyon here or near Chiang Mai ?

  11. Hello

Today I went to the stadium swimming pool with the diving boards but they said I can't use them. I told them I'm used to diving boards, I know how to jump, I practised diving from high boards a lot but they didn't want to know, they said with authority NO YOU CAN'T too many accidents... It seems obvious to me that it's dangerous to thai people as most of them don't even learn how to swim but if I tell them I know what I'm doing it doesnt make any difference.

Are you people able to use those boards ?

  12. Hello to the thaivisa community !

Yesterday I was very drunk and went for a massage and when finished I realised I had no money so I left and ran to my motorbike. I have no idea if the girls followed and were able to see my plate. I just remember I parked a bit far away. Should I go back there today apologize and pay ? Could it put me in even more trouble ? I read on internet that stealing is severely punished and that you can go to prison for a dounut apparently... If I end up in trouble will I be able to negociate using money with police officers ? With the girls maybe ?

    Thanks for you help !
