This problem is the same as people waiting for the very last day to make an extension of stay to come to the conclusion they are missing a document. A clever person doesn't have only 800K but some more as 820K on his account for in case.....

Don't give IMMI a chance to find something to refuse your request. Be more clever they are ....

I have my 800K in a fixed deposit account . It is not touched all year . On day of applying for extension , I go to bank get account updated --this usually adds a small amount of interest to the account ---then get a letter from bank - usually cost 200b - then off to immigration. This 800k is also my get out of jail money should things go really sour in LOS ---go to bank withdraw money , straight to airport and get out of dodge ( should it ever be needed). Obviously I have a second account for day to day living .

The exemption was from Tennis Australia, and the Govt of Victoria, not from the Federal Immigration, which controls entry and exit of Australia

My post attached the wrong quote ....I was replying to that quote shown ...my response was .......He arrived on a PRIVATE JET ........and then ...exactly what you have stated...........He was given an EXEMPTION TO COMPETE in the tournament ....NOT an exemption to enter Australia.

I find this hard to believe. The airlines would refuse to board people without a valid visa and a negative PCR test,  as anyone who came back to Thailand experienced it. I'm not aware of anyone being able to fly with "letter of support". I'm flying back to Sydney in a few weeks and don't think I can turn up at the airport without a negative PCR test and expect to board.

He arrived on a PRIVATE JET ........who checks documents etc for a private jet ?????

I have seen nothing detailing what the insurance has to cover. I don't think it will be a standard medical insurance policy.

I think it will be more like travel insurance that is only valid for the length of your stay in the country.

Joe, this has probably been asked and answered many times .......if you arrive visa exempt you get a 30 day entry ( for an Australian)...but if you plan to leave after 14 days ( and departure flight ticket is 14 days after arrival)...does the insurance need to be 14 days or 30 days ?????

  5. In Australia many activities were suspended like going to the pub , dancing in nightclubs etc where there may have been 100 or so people ....BUT football and sporting events went ahead with crowds in the 10's of thousands. Recently shops in Melbourne could open but only to sell from the street ...you were NOT allowed inside the shop. NOW , the new rule is that from 13th Nov all workers in hospitality MUST have had a immunisation jab or they CANNOT work . Also , Australians were prohibited from leaving the country ....unless you were a politician, film star or sports person of course.

Such accounts are not allowed - only cash/deposit accounts.

You started thread without even mentioning the account was a time deposit - only that passbook was full - making it appear a normal savings account.

Perhaps you can understand why we may be confused?   Most people seem to be trying to help with the information provided - and most would never have had such a passbook becoming full so will have little experience.  Unfortunately it seems resolution may require your presence and understand that is an issue, especially during this period of time.

The issue started out being simple ........seeking how to re-new a bank passbook without being physically present at the bank. What type of account and its purpose really isnt relevant. Also , if they havent had any experience with a "full passbook"..then there isnt much point in them commenting ....is there????oh well --this is TVF....always has been a place for people with NO actual knowledge giving advice on a problem they dont understand....but thanks to those who have tried to offer useful assistance .........mods , maybe close this thread NOW.

  7. @ Jimn ...........If you were to READ the comments , I still transfer money very simply BUT I want to use the 800K as no good reason for it to just sit there , "retirement visa"has lapsed so no need for the money to be in the account.

.....as sad as it may sound ...for us Australians ....we are not permitted to leave the country unless we are an international sports person, or a movie star or a politician ( these people seem to be able to come and go as they like) ...but for us normal people travel overseas is extremely difficult and prohibitively expensive from Australia. ( singapore airline $3000+ ONE WAY- Thai ailines $10,000+ ONE WAY)

and for those others who cant be bothered to ACTUALLY READ POSTS .......the account is a fixed term deposit account that has been in operation for more than 9 years ( hence book FULL) with regular updates and activity for immigration officers perusal over the years......the account ( as required by immigration ) is in MY NAME ALONE ...but I was able to get the partner's signature put in back in blacklight  with an EITHER TO USE arrangement.

@ KannikaP.......upon re-newal of the fixed term they have always just added new lines to the existing book as it is usually re-newed for the same term at the same rate.

it is GREAT to see this forum still ( after 5 years away from it ) filled with "experts"who dont read posts before responding or simply apply their own experience without trying to understand the experience of the OP.

Just because it hasnt happened to YOU , doesnt mean it hasnt happened to others

  8. @ Jay 55...you seem to be one of the FEW here who fully understand the situation . so,I'll re-cap for the others .........It is a fixed term investment account holding my 800K for "retirement visa" purposes. BOTH myself and partner have black light signatures in back of book with an EITHER to use arrangement.

Due to covid, me being outside thailand and therefore missing the date for extension of visa....I decided to USE THE MONEY in the account NOW...and re-start the "retirement visa "process when/if I return to thailand. Why leave 800k sitting there when I NO LONGER NEED IT BE THERE .......of course the bank has all necessary paperwork for me AND MY PARTNER.........but to simply re-issue a new book ( still in MY NAME ALONE)....place my partners signature in blacklight in back and add mine upon my return to Thailand ----well that is just TOO SIMPLE for Thai understanding.

You don't have a debit card you could send her?  Or transfer to her account either from it or from other account until you return?  Banks are not a user friendly experience for many of us here.   I agree above seems to be the only possibility and may have to go over local branch and even that may not work.

Am sending money by transfer thru her own account. Just as "retirement visa" has now lapsed no need to have 800k sitting in account. When able to return I will do so on tourist visa and re-new the whole Non-O visa  malarkey. I appreciate the bank is just "protecting my money" but I was wanting to move it from a term deposit account to a day to day account.

The passbook has both her and my signature  in black light form in back of book with either to use authority. I expected that she could get the book re-newed and I would add my signature when I returned. But .....T. I . T

  10. hi all ,  Havent been in forum since I left Thailand a few years ago. I lived full time(4 years) in Thailand on the so-called retirement visa and had bank account ( with 800K ) as required.  My Thai partner had access to the account ( black light signature) in back of book. Due to COVID , I have been out of the country for 18 mths now . The passbook is full ( even with added pages). With me NOT BEING IN THAILAND , how can I get the passbook re-newed so my partner can continue to use it. Right now they wont let her use the account until the new passbook is issued...which they wont do without me being there in person !!!!!!     NO sarcastic replies needed ......

  11. If your extension was to a certain date .....why would they NOT handle an extension on the day BEFORE that date and even on the final day. I once arrived at Swampy with 6 days left on my permission to stay ( based on retirement).....the IO at the airport seemed a little perplexed but eventually stamped me in and said ...you stay only 6 days ....my reply of YES ...seemed to make him happy . I applied for my new extension  3 days later.

  12. i recently travelled from Aust to Thailand . I have been coming and going with a permission to stay based on retirement for the last 6 years. On THIS occasion , was the first time I was asked for proof of return ticket when I checked in at Australia. I was going to tell them I didnt need it ( as I had been living in Thailand for over 4 years full time) ......but I know to never upset the airline staff. as this was just a fly in fly out visit I DID ave a return flight.........BUT what if I just just returning to Thailand to continue my " retirement".

I have previously travelled with ONLY A ONE WAY TICKET ( but with a " retirement visa") ...never been an issue before .......but as we all know    TIT ........

  13. in regards to the onwards ticket out of thailand .......as the concern is the check in desk at your departure airport ....is it not possible to tell them that you intend to leave Thailand overland and travel thru adjoining countries by road ...and then eventually at some time in the future, you will purchase a ticket "home" ???

  14. i remember 2 years ago when there was a big fuss about this .....on returning to thailand from a trip to Australia I went to my local IMM office to do this....filled in form , waited my turn and was told ...." not need :...address same as on computer."   My understanding is that it is only needed for a permanent change of address.....as stated ...put address on tm 6 ( arrivals card ) ...job done .
