  1. As a working Father now commissioned to look after our three kids 9,7,5 while Mother is away working......Ideas on keeping them interested for the next two months. language is difficult with youngest as no English...Miss their Mum of course and I havnt been here apart from a few days each month as was working. They got bikes, T.V, computer, big garden, beach 200 yards away but it seems there hasn't been any parental control so they are running amok. They have a few friends close by and some family stay with us so have some support....What to do.ideas please

  2. You must prove the need to purchase a weapon to obtain a purchase permit from the Tessabhan, You can not buy from a shop without this. Showing wealth that needs protecting is suitable.

There is an area close to KSR that has many gun shops. Prices for a 9mm sidearm start at around 100K for a CZ model. Beretta, Glock etc are more expensive coming in at around 150K.

Military and police personnel receive 50% discount. Some people have a friend in the services to purchase for them but the downside is it must be kept in their name for a period of 5 years.

On purchasing you need to revisit the Tessabhan to register your weapon and apply for a permit. Cost for permits approx. 7K this allows you to transport the weapon also.

Ammunition isn't cheap, especially from the shops. 9mm Thai Military FMJ can be purchased at military ranges for approx. 800 Baht per 50 rounds.

  3. Look at each local forum going back 10 years and there are always threads " isn't this year quite"

I don't know where you live but if you go out of a day or a night theres a huge loss of tourists THIS year in particular. Thats the point has has no relevance to whatever has been sai in the past. If you actually live here and have done for a few years you would understand the relevance of the OP's post this year. If you don't then you clearly don't live here so why would you care to post in the first place?

Because its a fact that each year the doomsdayers come out on Samui, Phuket and Pattaya forums with the usual isn't it quite comment. Normally happens in November or early December so a little slow this year. I didn't realise that you had to be resident on Samui in order to post in this forum.

  4. What about the rest of the population, as mentioned above? What about the vast number of Thais who cannot afford to retire? It is just looking after number 1 when the PM is asking people to consider others, how did this slip through the net? Is this an example of Thainess to be held up to the country the Asean and the world?

What is the current pension and what will it be anyone know?

Considering the UK have increased the pension age and will continue to do so making many work well into their 70's along with the annual increase changed to the lower CPI from RPI the Thai government seem to be acting in the correct way...especially when many consider here a " Third World Country"

  5. Travelling anywhere in Thailand at this time of year is an awful experience. Buses place plastic chairs in the aisles to accommodate extra seating along with standing paying customers. Traffic is chaos with tremendous tailbacks on both Petchkasem and Sukhumvit going South and out toward Saraburi Northbound. If you can book a ticket in advance would be better. Accommodation of course at resort/popular destinations are usually booked well in advance with very little if anything available on walk in so again book in advance if possible. The train will alleviate the traffic problem to a certain extent but expect a journey similar to the Circle Line at rush hour. Id be inclined to pay extra for a cab solely for the comfort and ease. The usual booking sites Agoda, Booking.com etc will give an idea of what is available in your chosen destinations.

  6. I bet they are just normal end of year "specials" and the junta is trying to take the credit. Just like announcing that the lower petrol price is a "gift" from the government lol. What a bunch of lying criminals!

As for the lower petrol price "gift", worldmarket prices has gone down by almost 50% and the pumpprices only about 10%.

So they are not only lying, but stealing from the people, they were supposed to serve.

    Thainess at its best!!

Petrol in the UK was 1.29 L in September, it certainly isn't only 65 pence now, so no not a Thainess thing at all

  7. Architects plans here are very expensive considering total build costs. Some Tessabahns allow you to copy existing plans they have on file in order for the building permit to be issued. You could look around the area for similar properties as these plans should have already gone through this procedure. Alternativly ask the architect at the Tessabahn if he will draw them for you, this way you will be assured of no problems and permit will be issued. I know a few people have taken this route at a cost of approximately 20,000 inclusive.

  8. That should be enough for language school but I heard difficult to get full time work and work permit at language school.

If you want to work at a regular school then any university degree is ok for the first 6 years, then you would need an education degree to continue teaching with a work permit

Until last week the limit for teaching in regular schools was 4 years. But now they changed it to 6 years before requiring an education degree for a work permit.

    Maybe different outside Bangkok.

Thanks for the quick reply Brian.

  9. This is peak holiday season witheveryone going to and from Malay-Thailand. Make sure you have accommodation booked in Hat Yai especially and return Travel. The border took me almost 6 hours to get through on these days and unable to find ANY accommodation in Hat Yai. Only option was a bus to Surat or Phuket with people standing in aislways. It was the worst trip I ever made. Pre book now or you will regret it
