A word of warning if planning the KL run. There is no issue with a same day return as far as the Malaysian authorities are concerned, BUT

EVEN WITH A MULTIPLE ENTRY TOURIST VISA, immigration at Phuket airport MIGHT deny you entry if you are a long stay tourist doing a same day visa run. It depends on your immigration history and luck.

And this is exactly what happened to me yesterday.  She asked me how long i intended to stay in thailand this time and i told her that i was not sure.  She then asked me for my return flight confirmation to the USA and i told her that i provided that information when i originally applied for my ME visa but did not know that it was required on a subsequent entry.  She also asked me where i was staying and many other things that is required on the original application.  I told her that was required and all is on file with my original application.  Then i kindly reminded her that my evisa grants me the right to enter the country as many times as needed.  I smiled at her and said that she needed to handle this however she wanted to and that i would take it up with the immigration office downtown phuket if were not given the 60 days that was expected.  I was very kind and understanding...

... she gave me 60 days

Any advice on how can do the border run to nong khai and then to udon?

I can take a flight to Laos, but how can i get to nong khai border?  Then after that how can i get to udon thani area after crossing nong khai?

At nong khai do i just walk across or need a vehicle?  Any help be appreciated

is there a reason why you are flying to Loas instead of udon thani?

You do realize you can pay in Baht? I know it might cost more, but I don't understand what seems like an obsession of many posters of paying in Perfect $us bills. No offence intended.

the last i heard it was 1800 baht, no offense taken...

Next nonstop Phuket to Udon Thani is tomorrow 31st at 14:20 with Air Asia .

    Flights are not daily

Guess you won't be able to make it back same day with the return flight.

So many connecting options through DMK or BKK. Cost time and money of course.

    Nonstop up, connecting down?

i see now that they don't run every day but they are still some running non-stop flights thanks...

I would take "must be used by Feb 18 2024" as the last date on which you can enter  based on that visa i.e. its expiration.

I am curious, if you entered on 5 October how is it that you are still here? Usually granted just 60 days on entry. Did you make a border bounce already not mentioned?

I did the bounce mentioned in my original posting

  6. I have a 6 month multi-entry eVisa from the US which i used to enter Thailand on Oct 5 2023.  This visa can be used as many times as needed until around the first of April 2024 correct?

I live in Phuket and normally fly to Udon Thani, take the 200 baht van to nong khai and spend the night close to the freedom bridge. In the morning I walk to thailand immigration and exit the country.  Buy a 30 baht bus ticket to Loas.  At the Loas border i fill out an entry/exit form, provide the officers in window 1 with a passport picture and 2 perfect $20 bills.  About 10 minutes later i am called to window 3 and my picture is taken and i am given my passport and exit paperwork.  I walk around the same building and give my passport and exit paperwork to the officer and receive my exit stamp (sometimes i am asking for 100 baht).  I buy a 30 baht bus ticket back across the bridge, fill out my thailand entry/exit form and am granted another 60 days.  Total time if done early is about an hour.

There are no longer direct flights from Phuket to Udon Thani or at least nothing available as of today.  I am thinking KUL would be my cheapest/best option.  My question is can i arrive and depart the same day?  I am also open to hearing about what everyone else is doing for a simple border bounce.  Thank you!!

I posted recently about my border run to Laos, which took an hour that day. I spoke to an agent on arrival who informed me from Pattaya, no mini van visa runs, ATM. Then arranged flights, as dislike long bus trips, to Udon, with a few nights stay, in the event of a forced night in Vientiane. I got strange responses about, over and back, but kept moving, window to window. Luckily had buses leaving both checkpoints. No waiting. 25 baht over, 35 baht back. Good luck whatever you do.

@Haveasaythat is exactly what i would like to do, could you post a link to your previous post?

Read reports of occuring at Nong Khai friendship bridge.

One option to avoid long van/bus trips would be fly Bangkok to Udon Thani return.

Minivan from airport to Nong Khai over bridge and straight back.

    That's possible.

    BTW it's a border bounce.

A visa run means obtaining a visa and that's an overnight option at the very least.

From Phuket this just might be the best option as well (Non-Stop One-Way to Udon Thani 1550 baht).  Ideas for finding the minivan across the bridge and back?

I'm wondering how you're certain that he's on an METV. Although he doesn't state so, he appears to be asking about obtaining a new visa exempt or permission to stay. Additionally the METV isn't exactly cheap. As to your question, I just completed my 2nd exit/reentry. Nothing easier. First was to Malaysia, second to Vietnam, with no complications. Just make sure to scrutinize your stamp to make sure the next expiry is 60 days.

Curious how you did your Malaysia bounce.  They require an active Thailand Visa my expiry date Jan 9th.  How long did you stay in Malaysia? I would like to arrive on Jan 8th and depart the same day or am i required to stay 1 day or 24 hours? can you color in your bounce for us/me? I also have METV

quirk &  inexpensive fly to Penang, one of my favorite cites in SE Asia, free voa

Why PEN over KUL? I am seeing long return flights from PEN and not from KUL.  Price a little better for KUL as well.  You like the city that much better? keep in mind i have been to neither.

You arrived with a current Visa from Thailand? do you recall what paperwork they are looking for?

    Thanks for your help...

I did a visa run myself with taxi from Hatyai to Wang Prachan last month.

However, Wang Prachan is tiny and only one staff working each window. Last Friday my friend gave up and turned around as there was too many visa runs from Phuket. The immigration at border are charging some people 1,300, others 2,000 and if big queues 3500.

In a few weeks the borders with Malaysia will be impossible to cross as there will be thousands of Russians each day from Phuket.

Even Hatyai now has a growing Russian population. The border crossings to Malaysia are going to be brutal come January

Yes, so it sounds like a great opportunity an agency in Hatyai... i am not into brutal right now haha!

  12. I have a multiple entry TR visa from the US that I will extend 30 days tomorrow.  I normally enter with a retirement visa.  This will be my first border/visa run.

My priority is cheap and quick but failing this, enjoying my time is priority.

Flying out in the morning and back in the evening is best.  Who doesn't like sleeping in their own bed? but not necessary.

Flying out in the afternoon, spending the night and flying back the following morning is also okay.

Ground travel might be okay as long as i am not spending many hours in a crowded bus, van or car.  A train is an interesting idea and i might spend many hours on a train if it proves interesting or a land border crossing is somehow better.

So, let us hear some ideas...

  13. haha! what happened? i leave for a couple days and we have covered the scooter vs motorcycle in just about all variations... glad you all had fun! for the record, i have been driving motorcycles all of my life and my first scooter accident was downhill on a very curvy (fun) road, now i remind myself that i am on a scooter not a motorcycle... haha!
