  1. I have just received my new work permit for next year up until march 31st 2016. My non B visa expires on may 6th 2015 but when i went ti Khon Kaen immigration to extend the visa I was informed that i was on a 30 day tourist visa and had to go to Laos.

I have been working at the same school since January 2014 and went to Laos in February 2014 to obtain my non B and have been doing 90 day reports ever since.

Am i missing something here? Do immigration mean i cannot get an extension unless I go within the 30 day expiry period of the non-B and not sooner.

If this is the case would it be possible to get my extension in Krabi immigration office as i will be on school holiday down there until the beginning of May? The woman at khon Kaen immigration was singularly unhelpful and refused to explain anything apart from repeating 'tourist visa' and 'go to Laos'!

    Many thanks

  2. Thanks Brian p803 for sensible advice. I have a CELTA plus 160 hours of specialized TEFL certificates, a BSc honors degree from Univesity college London and about 25 years experience of training young people and professional organisations.

I do not intend to stay teaching in Thailand for more than another academic year, possibly a maximum of two but would then like to teach elsewhere.

  3. i have already had a non B visa for a year which expires om may 6th 2015 as I have been working at a school since January 2014 (came in on tourist visa and got it converted to non B visa. I am changing schools at the end of the academic year and my current work permit expires on March 31st 215, new iob starts around 12th may 2015. what do i do? do i need to leave country to get another tourist visa and wait for new work permit from new school and then apply for another non B or can I just get an extension of my non b visa from immigration while waiting for new work permit if i take a copy of my contract from the new school?

    Any advice gratefully received

  4. Yes, as Joe mentioned.

However it is sad that Folks do not read what has been written many times in this

Thai visas, residency and work permits

    About this subject.

  5. Domestic violence knows no boundaries it crosses age, class, gender and geographical boundaries. In the UK one in four women will experience D.V.at some time and one woman a week dies as a result of it.This is despite advances made in recent years investing more money in refuges, outreach work and allowing the police to press charges against the perpetrator even if the abused person is too scared to do so due to the repercussions.

It is not only men who are the perpetrators of D.V. although statistics show that 90% of those abused are women in a heterosexual relationship. this may not reflect the true figure as many men are too shame to admit violation due to the stigma.

domestic violence is not only physical violence towards another it also concerns sexual, financial, mental and psychological abuse

Although there have been advances in the UK in recent years to combat DV it remains a growing problem worldwide and will only cease when society wakes u p and starts treating people as humans rather than commodities. I worked for many years in the UK in the field of domestic violence and although it is 'supposedly' a civilised western society it was not until 1973 that the first refuge was opened. I was speaking to a woman in Khon Kaen this week who works in this field and am happy to see it is beginning to be treated with the gravity it deserves. Many of us have experienced domestic violence in our lives and it is also up to us individually to break the 'cascade of dysfunction' and ensure the abused does not become the abuser.

  6. I currently work in a school in north east Thailand and my contract expires on march 31st 2015. however my current non B visa expires on 6th may 2015 but i have a new job at a school in krabi commencing may 16th 2015. what should I do? do I need to leave the country before may 6th to obtain a new non b visa for another year or can this be done at Krabi immigration office/ if I need to leave the country what papers will i need to take with me other than my passport, photos and my contract from my new school?

Also as i will be moving to krabi at the end of march which is the best place to renew my non B visa and can this be done by doing an overland journey or will i have to fly?
