Many offices ask for proof of residence like he was asked for. I don't recall it being asked for at Jomtien before but I suspect it is not that unusual.

Ok but why can someone go in and get a proof of residence with a cable bill and they are asking for copy of owner's passport (he is not the owner), land document, condo letter, rental agreements etc.?

So get the proof of residence certificate (100 baht) and submit it with one's "retirement" extension paperwork.

100B, thats quite low - here in CM (opp. Promenada) a corrupt officer want 500B unless you want to wait 1 month. We decided to wait since we were not in a hurry. When we picked it up, the corrupt officer told us they would not give any more Cert. Res. and we would have to go to BKK to get it at my Embassy. The officer has of course been reported to NACC that will follow up on him

Yes, any government's priorities should be aimed at their own people first. Despite what the perpetual whiners go on about. life here for farang is already far more comfortable than it is for a lot of nationals. And most of those farang who seem so miserable here would probably be worse off if they stayed in the countries from which they fled.

No farang government spends a great deal of time worrying about accommodating foreigners. If anything their interest in foreigners is concerned with keeping them out unless they're bringing money and/or needed skills.

Maybe if farang governments worked on improving life back in Farang Utopia there wouldn't be so many unemployable, unqualified, economic refugees here.

In my country once foreigners are allowed in then over some years time they end up with the exact same rules and benefits as i have...

Some examples,insurance,passports,landowning,education,justice.social security all no difference.

Example a Thai lady would marry a guy from my country then she gets all these benefits just as if she was born in my country.Now that is not the same here if i marry a thai girl then still my rights are completely limited here in thailand..

So the difference is the behavior of governments in dealing with foreigners.

Agree ... same in my homecountry and there is no dual prices or racist prices to foreigners. Foreigners - if residents - have free access to hospitals, schools, property and they are not always the guilty part if involved in a traffic accident.

The police dont shake them down either or try to fine them for something they didnt do.

What if you live in an hotel- will they accept a receipt from the hotel. It's not a requirement of retirement in Thailand to live in one place, far as I know.

Thai police really cannot win, can they? They were responding to a report of a murder, if they sauntered to the scene of the incident people like you would have a go at them for that also.

I do agree that a lot of Western European countries are in the top 10, with Germany and France/Belgium way too low.

Most people in other parts of the world, including the US, have no idea how great it is to grow up in societies with low crime rates, clean environment, social securities, more freedom of expression and speech (no Patriot Act) etc. The Americans call it 'nanny states', I would like to call it happy societies.

I must admit that I lived in one of the top 10 countries on that list in the 70's/80's and 90's, so I can not really judge about the quality of life nowadays.

Too bad these European countries are committing suicide by changing their population from christians to ..... you know! but I guess the welfare system is too much of a carrot for some foreigners that dosent belong in the western World ...
