100 million bags in a month.  That equates to around TWO bags per hour in each store.

Just shows that every little helps when brought into the big picture!

Actually it's a bit more than that......

102,323,400 bags/31 days / 11,000 stores = 300/day or 12.5 bags/hour, or roughly one bag refused every 5 minutes in every store across thailand.

Sorry CP, but that does not sound realistic ! Perhaps in areas with more environmentally minded Thais and foreigners that "might" be true but i rarely see anybody except me bring their own bag into my local 7/11 in On Nut, and I'm sure in Nakhon Nowhere the refusal rate is minimal.

Of course, anything is better than nothing but I think they are fudging the numbers here.

Or it could just be that they have less customers using less bags .......

Excuse me if someone has already answered this over the past 72 pages, but what of extension renewals over the next 11 months by expats that don't have 12 months of deposit history to show? Will they get a pass on showing a full 12 months of deposits?

You have to show a deposit for every month from now until you do your renewal.

  3. if you mean a concrete vibrator, like this : https://www.dohome.co.th/towa-late-cameo-bridge-35x15-mm-10203562.html then Dohome call them สายจี้สะพาน ( saai jii saphaan ?) and สายจี้ปูน (saai jii puun ) .....I would go with the latter unless anybody has a better answer. But all you have to do is find a picture of one, save it on your phone and ask "mii mai " (do you have ?) as you show it to the staff.

You can buy them in Thai watsadu, global house, Dohome etc.

Seems correct to me. If you retire in Oct 18, you must show adequate income from Nov 18 until you do your extension in 2019. So do your extn in say April 2019, you need to show Nov,Dec,Jan,Feb,March income. After that you need 12 months income every year.

but "retire" seems a very loose term. I'm 49 and not retired in terms of taking a monthly pension so those dates don't make sense

Well if you are only 49 then you do not qualify for a "retirement" visa so chill, it does n't concern you, you don't need to worry about retirement visas or extensions yet .....

Once you do get your non O "retirement " visa you have a choice of the money in the bank method, or doing the international transfers every month.

What is the approximate cost to replace concrete cesspit with plastic septic tank system?

Lived in this house 25 years. First 15 years it took over a year for 2 connecting 4 ring cesspit too fill up. Last few years it fills every two weeks. The water rises above the toilet outlet pipe and toilet doesn't flush properly. Air bubbles.

I have a feeling the ground under the cesspits have just gotten soaked.

a 1000 litre septic can cost 4000 baht and up, plus a couple of days labour, plus some extra piping for the overflow.

People on the klong boats throw things into the river. as well    As mentioned above, unless there are places to throw things away, the residents will continue to do as they have done.  In horror, I watched one woman throw a plastic bag into the klong with great poise and grace.  She had been doing for so long, she created a certain style doing this inexcusable thing.

After visiting the Jim Thompson House a couple of years ago I went down to the canal at the back  (San Saep ?) and there was a woman throwing large bags of garbage into the water from the back of a pickup. She threw in 7 bags while i watched but I'm guessing she started with a full pickup load, as the remaining bags were piled high up against the back of the cab.

I'm still trying to understand how the 'furious aunties' escaped prosecution for damaging the truck?

Perhaps you should try reading the "other paper", you know, the one we are not allowed to quote or link to.

They have been charged and are pleading not guilty, court case is early next year if I remember right.

  8. Diamond and TPI make AAC blocks also.

    Q-con 20cm is a load bearing size I believe.

If you are after technical info try asking onestockhome.com, they have a variety of brands listed here https://www.onestockhome.com/en/categories/bricks

and were quick to answer my questions (in english) ...if the other contact emails don't answer try again in Thai if possible .....sometimes the sight of an English language email sends it straight into the too hard basket !

I suspect you will have trouble finding a builder experienced with the concept of load bearing walls rather than the normal method of concrete columns for structural support and in-fill walls.

    Telstra TV box.

Not sure this is the right place for this post but will ask anyway, has anyone taken a Telstra TV box to Thailand and been able to use it? Essentially it is a Telstra branded ROKU box.

    Cheers

Do you mean permanently, or just while on holiday ? Either way, don't they only work through Telstra broadband ? I know you need a Telstra broadband account to get one. Guess the way to find out would be to try it on a friend's Optus or other connection ?

I quickly realised that it's no more costly and probably a hell of a lot more convenient to just buy bulk packs of Nestle bottles et al. I don't have to worry about filter maintenance. I don't have to think about this that or the other. I know I'm not spending any more than I would have if I did my own filtration.

And by buying thousands of plastic bottles over time you are not worrying about climate change, pollution and litter either. Don't you have somebody in your area that brings the big refillable and reuseable glass bottles ? They bring it to you, so even more convenient, and usually cheaper than buying bottles at the 7/11.

  11. AAC "superblocks" cost between 15 to 20 baht each, at 8.3 blocks per sq.m., so 125-160 baht/sq.m., plus the special "adhesive" (not ordinary mortar!) at 3kg/sq.m, 150baht/50kg bag, so roughly 9 baht/sq.m.....total 135-170 baht per sq.m. depending on brands, current special deals, how bargain savvy you are, etc.

Concrete blocks are 12.5/sq.m, at 8(?) baht each, so around 100 baht/sq.m. but I reckon the mortar will cost more. I forget how much mortar per sq.m ......definitely more than the AAC adhesive though.

So a single skin concrete block wall might be cheaper but hotter, and a double skin will be more expensive. But, no make it BUT, in the long run AAC will save you money on cooling costs, it also has better sound absorbtion. Also AAC blocks can be cut and trimmed to shape where necessary to fit into odd corners etc, so there should be little waste. And they are a lot quicker to lay so you should reduce the labour costs slightly too.

  12. You can get 12v/240v car fridges such as the ARB ones http://www.arb.co.th/products/arb-fridge-freezers/?lang=en&item=35l-arb-fridge-freezer

It won't be cheap but the quality is top notch. ARB have a few stores/dealers around Thailand, think their main Thai one is Pattaya/Chonburi district. The map on their website says they are available in Songkhla (if the info is up to date). Have seen other car fridges available at the BKK Motor Show, did not check if they were dual voltage but they usually are.

I doubt you will find anything except the usual bar fridges in a supermarket though.

  13. A guy I know had a beachfront resort, ok technically his wife did, and once investigated building a small slipway with a jetty and a few moorings, mainly just for him and a boat he wanted to build. At first nobody wanted to talk to them about it, kept passing the buck to other departments but once he had got approval from the local amphur (on the 2nd time around) then everybody wanted to butt in, perhaps because he slipped something under the table to the amphur and others wanted a bit of the action. Marine Dept decided they controlled it because it went below the high water mark, then Nat. parks and/or environment, then Labour and industry got wind a foreigner was financing it so they should control it. Navy thought it might affect national security.......

Naturally everybody had different ideas about what was acceptable or desirable, so in the end he gave up on the idea.

Just warning about what you might encounter .....

I would suggest the first step would be to have a chat with the local amphur's head honcho.

Thankyou for those answers but don't think it will work. I have gone into my banking app and it outlines changing daily limit with SMS code etc. However even if I did that it has a limit of $10k.

I could send cbus a personal cheque (one of several option from cbus) however not sure how westpac would deal with a 300k personal cheque.

This is why I kept my telstra phone and number on roaming, I am assuming you did n't keep an aussie number and phone ?

Westpac will be happy to take your cheque as long as you have the money in the account to cover it, but I would be a bit wary about sending it from Thailand, even by registered mail. Best option, IMHO, is to set up the recurring payments for the max. allowed, that would also give the benefit of "dollar averaging"

Have you bought anything from them ?

How were they at price and time for delivery ?

No, i have not actually bought anything yet, but i did cost them out for a lot of stuff for our future house. Their list price was cheaper than the places like Global house, Thai watsadu etc here in Ubon but with transport added on it was pretty much even, so I might just use them for anything we cannot get in Ubon. I expect delivery to ayyutaya would be much much cheaper though. You can do a dummy order with your delivery address to find out the transport costs, then just cancel the order.
