  1. I've taught university-level mathematics both at US universities and here. Sorry, I do not do individual tutoring but have these recommendations:

    1. Be wary of getting a college student as a tutor. They may be able to do the problems but are unlikely to be able to communicate well-enough to explain the underlying concepts and logic. There are exceptions to this of course but be wary.

    2. I highly recommend Khan Academy. This is a good resource at all levels. Even if you get a tutor have your student get familiar with using the KA videos.

3.Try contacting the math teachers at the various International Schools in the area. Some of them may do tutoring or may know and be able to recommend good tutors.

    4. Keep at it! Once the "I just cant do math" attitude hardens it is hard to overcome later. Having a good background in math will pay dividends for your student all of their life. Don't give up.

    Best of luck!

Thanks for the recommendations. I will look into it and do research on the Math teachers. Do you have any recommendations for High School Science?

  2. Have you looked into Khan Academy? From what I've seen, the lessons are good, especially at explaining the basics.

    https://www.khanacademy.org/

Yes, I have looked into Khan Academy and have used it for some basic javascript courses. Need one on attention though and already have enough school work. Just need assistance in explaining how to work on solutions for an 1 hour or 2 a week, maybe more, so don't have any confusion when going through lessons at school.

  3. OP. Please remember that we who have been selected to be in the group "Advanced Members" have earned our wings so to speak. We have worked hard to get where we are on Thaivisa. We are an elite unit, not unlike the Navy Seals or Green Berets. We command an enormous amount of respect due to our membership in that group. Learn from us. If you work hard, perhaps some day you, too, can proudly wear the badge of Advanced Member.

Mesquite, I understand Advanced Members have earned respect and I will respect Advanced Members, but when they give bad advice or "You can't always get what you want", I took that offensive. What I would like to know, as I am a little confused, is how did you take that comment and how did some of the other Advanced Members, in this post, take that comment from an Advanced Member?

  4. What were you told at the banks you talked to?wai.gif

Were you as arrogant with them as you are here. Thai's will not buy that.wai.gif

This subject comes up from time to time did you try a search for it?wai2.gif

he won't make it too long here, where the Thai people are polite. a non-Thai speaker, arrogant, with an attitude like his....some Thai guys will kick his ass in a dark alley.

Oscar2, I am confused, are you talking about me, the PM or northern john?

  5. I'm not sure who you think I am or what kind of assets you think I have or what nationality you think I am, but any negative responses from anyone in this post from Advanced Members, you know who you are, about me quoting an Advanced Member that responds with no positive advice, is arrogant, themselves, and does not understand what the topic was about is definitely not considered an Advanced Member in my eyes or most of the members of ThaiVisa, I'm sure about that. So, before putting down a member who is trying to get help or get helpful advice and not bad advice to further the conversation should not have the title Advanced Member because they are not helping out the community, they are just putting negative responses in the forum so nobody will further the response.

  6. Do you want a tutor for English Math/Science or Thai Math/Science, because they are two completely different "subjects".

The English version is logical and the Thai is just strange.

English Math/Science tutor is what I require, sorry, for not being specific, it doesn't matter what nationality they are as long as they speak fluent English. A college student would be an ideal candidate, but it doesn't have to be, as we can go over their credentials and determine if we can use their services when we contact them. I can be specific on what on what information is needed for me to contact them:

I need the tutor's business name, or just individual first and last name, phone number, and if they have an email address, that would be the best method of communication.

Anybody can personal message me if they have someone that wants to keep their contact's personal information confidential to just me?

Let me know if I need to be more specific and other members of ThaiVisa, please don't hesitate to either reply to this topic or send me a PM of a tutor with the information I requested in this topic.

  7. I got a box 15 years ago with SCB here in Chiang Mai (without problems) and pay 600 Baht every year for it.

But; as I understand, it is a lot more difficult now. You have to deposit "some" millions on a fixed account and/or pay deposit for the box and/or make a Life Insurance with the Bank etc. Sounds very difficult.

That's also why I keep my P.O. Box, even though they increased the yearly fee from 250 Baht to 500 Baht.

When you get it; don't give it up!.

Finally, someone who gave me positive advice. Which SCB in Chiang Mai has safety deposit boxes or do you know if most SCBs in Chiang Mai have them? Can you give me the contact information like address, phone number, and even better an email address of the branch where your box is at? Does this office have fluent English speaking customer service reps, so i can ask them some questions? You can personal message me if you would like to keep your branch location's and info confidential to just me. Looking forward to a response.

Anybody else have anymore positive advice about this topic or anywhere else they know of that have safety deposit boxes as a service in Chiang Mai?

  8. Search the forum...

There is a private place in Bangkok that offers the service as reported in one of the many threads on this topic.

Or...deposit 3-5 million Baht in K-Bank, Thai Pannich, etc. and get a box that way.

I thought I posted to the Chiang Mai forum, why would I want a service offered in Bangkok? Also, there has got to be another way to get a box without having to deposit 3-5 million baht. That just sounds ridiculous! I just want to pay a monthly, quarterly, or yearly fee.

Because there is no such service in C.M. so try in Bangkok.

You can't get what you want. You can pay a one time fee of 10,000 Baht and buy a life insurance policy from Bangkok Bank, then pay 1200 a year for a small box. Otherwise do what the banks want; i.e. deposit 3-5 million Baht for 1-2 years.

Ok, if there is no such service, as you say, elektrified, in Chiang Mai. Then I hope someone else can prove you wrong. As an advanced member of this forum, electrified, you should not be posting quotes like "You can't get what you want". Those are words expressing to the forum members that you don't respect their opinion.

  10. Can someone assist me with these question I have as I have not gotten a clear answer from anyone?

    1. Is there somewhere I can get a safe deposit box where my valuables will be safe and guaranteed from any hazards and has 24/7 security?

    2. If there is such a place, can you give me the contact information?

    3. Also, do you know if I can give anyone I want access to this safe deposit box?

  11. You have to be on extensions of stay for 3 years working with a work permit and paying taxes for those 3 years.

I heard from somewhere that I could just have money in a Thai bank account and that I could apply for residency status. I, also, heard as long as I have a Non-Immigrant O Visa for 3 consecutive years I could apply. Is this true? I didn't know I had to have a work permit. What happens if I am retired and under the age of 55 with a decent fixed income?
