  1. I would recommend Norton Antivirus any day over AVG. AVG is much slower and generally more a clunkier application. Norton Antivirus has excellent technical backing and their support infrastructure is second to none. AVG is a good product though if you are looking for a free application, but simply no comparision to Norton Antivirus.

Have you used AVG recently? It used to be as you say but has matured greatly and is very smooth now. I don't know about SA use but for the home user I don't believe it can be beat.

Avest I did have a problem with but that was a year or so ago so it may have been corrected (mail checking caused an added IP listing that SMPT server would not accept).

I have been using Norton for a long time, but had a few bad experiances with it. The appliaction it self got corrupted, it did load the taskbar icon, but it was disabled and i couldn't enable it and run scan. All in all, after uninstallation, which was a nightmare, where i was loged in the box as admin, and the uninstaller kept on poping up messeges that i should log as admin becase i do not have privilages. Initially i was going to reinstall it but this had put me off completelly. Now i am happely using bitdefender (fw + av) and cant complain at all. Symantec have a good business strategy, it comes preinstalled with 3m subscription on many brands, once 3 monts are gone, if you not a computer guru you simply won't be able to uninstall it so you are stuck with us. And they do live from the great times when the "brand name" was established. There are many bettre products with less famous names and sale practics.

  2. I am starting to like Suse, but totally overwhelmed by the sheer number of small apps with inexplicable names that seem to come with it.

I seem to have 3 apps to perform each function in the menu...just wondering what other people consider to be Killer Apps (for whatever purpose)...and why you like it. Just want a lean and mean box :o

    What can't you live without?

    Thanks

Try lates debain, so far one of the best linux distr i come around

  3. At the moment I am more trying to get a picture of what the costs will be to employ a really good person rather than actually doing the employing now..

I have a contracted company but they are dragging thier feet and comminication is breaking down.. Considering my options.

You could start with about 14,000 for a non-experienced "programmer". Usually the good univ. graduates ask for at least this much even if they only did one course of PHP. A good, experienced programmer should cost you at least 25,000 a month, but if they're really good you won't be able to keep them for long with this salary. You may take 30K as a reasonable figure. Many programmers like the freelance option - work hard for a few weeks, then sabai sabai until the next project...

Another point is that a good programmer is rarely a good designer and vice versa.

Where can i look/advertise to find a Thai freelance PHP programer. I am freelance myself and i need to outsource some work.
