However very interesting article - I have some sympathy that they don't want activities like those described in their towns but bombing your way to a solution isn't the way to go about it !

Actually I've always thought that one day there will be a bali type bombing in a Bangkok 'dodgy' area - don't know why and I sure as hell hope it never happens, just always felt it might!

BKK's location and high profile tourist areas does seem to be an opportunity in waiting for terror.

If the perpetrators of the acts of violence against the populace in the south were Thais then there would not be a problem. They are followers of the religion of 'peace and love', their allegance is first Islam, then ??. They will NEVER be Thais.Militant Islam is a malignant cancer in the world and unless there is some extreme action taken to curtail the spread of this disease, then it will eventually become too widespread and we all will be subject to Sharia law, (is that an oxymoron) Sharia and Law. What to do? Western Governements are too weak , too dependant on Islamic controlled oil, to eradicate the cancer from within their societies. The Thai government would probably be capable of cauterising the festering wound in the South , but the international pressure from more liberal regimes would be such that they would not be able to do what is necessary.

Only the progressive liberals see it like that. Thailand has to stand it's ground or it will end up as pathetic as the capitulating west.

If you think Pattaya is too dangerous you should not go there. There are unwritten rules such as avoid secluded unlit areas and avoid the beach at night, and, don't get so pissed or drugged that you lose control. It's a bad idea. For me, I love Pattaya, and I truly dislike it when I see Farangs ( I am one) misbehaving and being disrespectful to the locals. It's their culture and we tend to take too much for granted. This guy may be genuine, then perhaps he isn't. Not for anyone to judge, but take care. Pattaya can be heaps of fun.

If you aren't going to use your head and keep yourself out of harms way don't go to Pattaya. Iv'e been there plenty of times and haven't been accosted once.
