Don't worry....your bank does "not" use ACH "IAT" format.  No known US bank/credit union uses ACH "IAT" format to "send", repeat, send ACH transfers; they just use the standard ACH "domestic" format.   When contacting your bank some rep may tell you they can process ACH IAT no problem (which is true)..but what they really mean is "receive" IAT format no problem....that does not mean they send using IAT format.  And don't be surprise if your bank rep might give a Deer in the Headlights response when talking ACH "IAT"....the IAT part is what may blind them whether they will admit it or not.

The domestic ACH format is a slimmer format and only meant for funds transfers staying within the U.S.   If your bank used ACH IAT format for sending you would know it when sending a transfer as you would need to enter the recipient name, address, and phone number along with a reason for transfer for each transfer.  Very similar when sending via International Wire (a.k.a., SWIFT).

ACH IAT is nothing new....as TallGuy said it's been around since 2009.  All US financial institutions can "receive" ACH IAT format transfers no problem; it's just for retail accounts they do not "send" in ACH IAT format.  Now, some large financial institutions/banks will offer ACH IAT sending capability for cooperate/business accounts which need to pay for foreign goods/payroll in a foreign country which may interface with the US ACH system.  But generally, banks use Int'l Wire/SWiFT for foreign transfers....and it definitely more profitable to them fee-wise compared to a free/low cost ACH transfer.  Banksters like fees.

If you have been solely relying on using ACH via the Bangkok Bank New York routing number for your bank transfers you best get an alternative sending method lined up.   Bangkok Bank initially established a "line in the sand" cutoff for non-IAT transfers of 1 Apr 2019 but got an extension from the US Treasury to extend that to 30 June 2019 (new date announced by letter...I got one of those letters....but they left their website saying 1 Apr 2019).  Although not stated apparently the extension was due to many social security and other US govt pension recipients having their pension sent via ACH non-IAT format to Bangkok Bank....with the social security recipients apparently being of prime concern....don't want to impact the ol' folks.  This 30 Jun 2019 extension would give the Social Security Agency more time to fully implement its International Direct Deposit (IDD) to Thailand program which did go operational a month or so ago.

And although ACH non-IAT transfers are still getting thru as of the first week of July 2019 that may be purely due to Bangkok Bank New York leaving the door open a little longer to allow any late June initiated non-IAT transfers to get thru since some US banks/credit unions might now actually transmit an ACH transfer until days after the customer initiated it.  Or, maybe Bangkok Bank NY got another short term extension which they have not announced on the website or via letter to customers in order to support some US govt pension payments which are still being paid in non-IAT format which is also allowing non-IAT transfers from banks/credit unions to also get through....go along for the ride.  When Bangkok Bank got their extension to 30 June they did not update their website to 30 June....they just announced it in letters to some customers....I was one of those customers who got the letter saying they would "try to continue thru 30 June 2019."

Yeap...you best have an alternate transfer method lined-up...have a Plan B....don't have all your eggs in one basket.  At some point the Bangkok Bank New York branch is actually going to enforce its line in the sand that it's drawn two times already (1 Apr and 30 Jun 2019)....and maybe has drawn an unannounced third line with an unknown date which they are keeping close-hold.

Thanks for the detailed information... I may need to go back on ATM withdrawal worse case scenario.  I see some posts about transferwise but seem not very solid as of late.  Does anyone have an alternative method to get money into Thailand reasonably?  Seems to become very difficult like many things...

Perhaps you missed the news that's been part of thousands of posts here and numerous threads over the past months to wit....

BKKB NY is going to be ending its ACH transfer route for consumers from the U.S. to Thailand sometime in the near future -- unless you/your bank can send a specially coded transfer called an IAT (International ACH Transaction), something that no known U.S. entity provides to its consumer customers.

The U.S. government sent direct deposit payments thru the NY branch should be able to continue, either entirely or for the most part, unaffected, because the feds and their payroll systems can provide the required extra info. But as a private sender, everyone here is likely to be S.O.L. in the near future.

Thanks... been reading into this one after reading a response earlier... I am awaiting to hear back from my bank if they are going to use or using the IAT format.  If it is like many government programs, they put the cart before the horse and many will be SOL.  However, they may give endless extensions til they figure it all out... I think they want to implement this structure throughout the states... wishful thinking... Will try to figure out an alternative just-n-case of a rainy day.  I started reading into Citibank, but it seems quite expensive for what you get.

    Thanks...

I am a bit confused about what happened to you, I can only say this. I use income method my US gov retirement is direct deposited to a direct deposit account at bangkok bank using the NYC routing. I have to directly pick up these funds at the counter, no atm is associated with this account. These are US gov rules. If I want, I could put the funds in a second bangkok bank accout, but I put them into kbank, because I like kbank. I have never had a problem with immigration. I am here over 3 yrs on a retirement extension.

I can 2nd this method... For years been using this way ever since high fees were added to ATM withdrawals.  This way takes a few working days to runs it's course but works well for me.  Here is the information on bangkok bank: https://www.bangkokbank.com/en/Personal/Other-Services/Transfers/Transferring-Into-Thailand/Transfer-money-from-US-to-Thailand-via-Bangkok-Bank-NewYork-branch

In Basic, this is how it works for me:

    1.  I transfer from my USA Bank to Bangkok Bank New York Branch via (ACH - used in the USA for Bank to Bank transfer)

-Many Banks in USA do not charge a fee for this type of transfer

-NY Bangkok Bank appears as a USA Bank in the eyes of other Banks... (Seems they work as a middle man to Thailand)

    2.  Depending on the dollar amount transferring to Thailand, Bangkok Bank New York charges a transfer fee:

    fee            amount transferred

     free          < 50usd

    3.00usd      50.01 - 100.00usd

    5.00usd      100.01 - 2,000.00usd

    10.00usd     2,000.01 - 50,000usd

    3.  Once it hits Bangkok Bank Thailand, there is a conversion to Baht Fee prior to deposit into your account no greater than 500b a minimum of 200b calculated by .25% of transferred amount.  I was told the conversion rate used is based on USD50 > TT Buying Rates (30.48b at time of this post) https://www.bangkokbank.com/th-TH/Personal/Other-Services/View-Rates/Foreign-Exchange-Rates#

    Example as I understand:

    transfer (2,000usd)

    2,000-5usd (ny fee) =

    (1,995usd) transfered to Thailand

Upon receipt Bangkok Bank Thailand, it is converted to thai baht based on TT Buying Rate.

    1,995 x 30.48 = (60,807.6baht)

    calculate conversion fee:

    60,807.6baht x .25% = (152b) (pushed up to 200b minimum)

    60,807.6 - 200b(conversion fee)=

    60,607.6baht net after transfer...

    -----------------------------

after all fees and conversion, the effective rate of this example is 30.30b to 1 dollar.

This is what I have been using for some time now...  It has been as quick as 1 day up to 5 days in my experience.  I hope this helps!

  4. Wow,

Lot's of reply's... Thanks for the link on the TE site about limo service... Unfortunately, it was not clearly discussed by TE staff at time of membership and last March (when I asked for shuttle to DM). I specifically asked if out of Swampy can use the service, they said "yes"... But language barriers always causes us problems ;) // Like buying a car... Me: Does the car run? Staff: Sure, the car run... I was not expecting to ask: ME: Does the car run excellent with no problems, all maintenance done, fluids are not leaking, etc... after reading the provided sales documents... Staff: ??? //

When I receive documents emailed from TE stating what I get from membership as attached to my OP, then learning different standards from the site linked by Chris2224, it feels a bit like a bait-n-switch... I only wished to been informed before hand to make decision knowing the black-n-white... I sometimes forget in Thailand we are in Grey most of the time... That is why I asked on here after not getting a clear answer from the TE staff yesterday other than "It's Policy", where I ask please, "It's Policy"

    Thanks all...

  5. Hello All,

Has anyone experienced this yet? (The TE Staff told me many have called and has this same problem!) I searched this site and google without seeing it posted.

I attempted to schedule for Airport Shuttle Services today using Thailand Easy Access (TEA) and was told ONLY for incoming International Flights. I'm taking a Domestic Flight and they refuse to schedule the shuttle stating "it's policy"... Oh course I asked where is the policy (knowing this staffer has not a clue and just beats the drum)... annoyed.gif

This bait-n-switch crap is pissing me off wacko.png as this is the only other benefit I found viable besides the 5 Year PE Visa.1zgarz5.gif

Ok, this is another letdown from TE... All the paperwork received by email/member package and on the website states: 24 trips from hotel/residence to airport and airport to hotel/residence. In the Spring, I tried to schedule Service from my condo to DM finding out they only support going to Swampy... Then I was told if from Swampy, I can schedule services... From the TEA document received (Stating no change since last year):

    http://www.thailandelite.com/downloadable_form_file/downloadable_form_file24.pdf

There is different levels of membership, I went through each of them and found ON the INDIVIDUAL PLAN (20 year) it states shuttle transfer from International Flights not listing a restriction: http://www.thailandelite.com/downloadable_form_file/downloadable_form_file1.pdf

  6. OP, help you understand... a VISA is the key to the door allowing you to pass into the Kingdom... the STAMP/Extend Stay is how long you can stay in the Kingdom.. Another analogy, Think of driving a car, the VISA is the Key letting you unlock and enter the Car and Start it. The STAMP/Extend Stay is the Gasoline/Petro determining how far you can go in the car... wink.png

The VISA & STAMP/Extend Stay work hand-in-hand with each other however different in their purpose and ability to stay in Thailand. When Crossing a border into Thailand, the Immigration Officer will check your VISA (key) is valid/expired/type, based on it being valid and type, he/she will grant you entry into the Kingdom for a period of time "STAMP/Extend Stay". Once in Thailand, going to the Immigration Office, you can be granted a Extension of stay for many reasons "STAMP/Extend Stay"...

REPORTING at Immigration is required whenever your STAMP/Extend Stay is > 90 days.... Two ways to accomplish: 1) Report at Immigration http://www.immigration.go.th/nov2004/en/base.php?page=90days (Bangkok Procedures... Pls use same but your local Immigration Office) 2) Cross the border < 90 days (Which is usually not necessary for Teachers with Work Permits)(And WARNING if your entry is SINGLE, a re-entry permit (1900b) is required or it will invalidate your VISA/Work permit.

Please see your Administration about your status regarding your Visa & STAMP/Extend Stay... Most teachers I see have a Non-O B SINGLE entry Visa. They come to Thailand, Immigration STAMP/Extend Stay 90 days. You report to the school in a timely manner (pre-arranged)... Sometimes they give you a little vacation time prior to starting. Then the school completes the extensive paperwork for the work-permit. Upon submission and completion of the work-permit, Immigration will STAMP/Extend Stay up to 1 year. This is where you 90 day report at Immigration starts because your STAMP/Extend Stay is > 90 days. Again, If you need to leave the Kingdom for travel or other reason on a SINGLE entry, ensure you have a RE-ENTRY Permit (1900b).

Since you have a NON-O B Multiple with work Permit, I am unsure how it works... Some of the more enlightened can help with that one... I suspect your school has not finished the work permit process yet if you are on 1st 90 days...

Lastly OP, I think you referred to a "New Law", maybe for overstay... It was announced last summer but not enforced/approved yet... Maybe early next year: http://www.thaivisa.com/forum/topic/744965-thailand-immigration-confirms-new-overstay-rules-are-now-official/

I hope I was able to help OP...wai2.gif

  7. I had bumpy crossing at Poi Pet last August on my B visa... I don't have any Visa Exempt / OI stamps in my passport but they seemed very perturbed at my Exit / Entry on my B visa... He went to the Supervisor... they conferred 3 meters away going through my passport again 3-4 times... Then the supervisor came to me and said "we cannot allow you through..." My heart skipped a beat...post-4641-1156693976.gif.pagespeed.ce.Jg Then she continues... "If you didn't have a visa..." I wanted to say a few choice words on her delivery, but obviously it would just make unnecessary waves... I finished my crossing and 90 more days...

    post-4641-1156694005.gif.pagespeed.ce.gy

What is interesting in the OP and another poster if the flag on the screen... No longer a rule, but maybe they still use it as a que to scrutinize your passport more... It is surely possible I had the flag too and confused the guy into hesitatingly going to the Supervisor... Agree with UbonJoe--In the OP's case kindly ask for a supervisor because reviewing your entry/exit stamps on Visa Exempt should show your are not the Living/Working Thailand--the type they are trying to block... However, if you were In Thailand most of the year and using Visa Exempt to stay, it's a no-brainer they will block...

Secondly, only by rumor... are they making up their own rules again and claiming 90 days of visa exempt per year... (unlikely...)whistling.gif

Many living here or being here for a long period of time, have come to find TV in a search or by reference... wai2.gif

  8. Just a 30 day extension.

As I had paid the fine, I (wrongly ?) assumed that my 'crime' had been paid for.

In the past, the airport immigration happily accepted my overstay payment with no mentions of this being a 'crime'. Either things have changed or I got the wrong immigration person on arrival.

Your attitude and lack of due diligence gives good reason to be hassled. Easily solved by getting the Proper Visa before leaving your home country... You were very lucky to be allowed into Thailand this time. If you were to commit a Crime multiple times, do you think they just wave you through??? Hope you don't plan on overstaying again!post-4641-1156694005.gif

A fine is money paid usually to superior authority, usually governmental authority, as a punishment for a crime or other offence. The amount of a fine can be determined case by case, but it is often announced in advance.wai2.gif

  9. I have a plug for the Banking... Most Westerners are considered "Non-Residents" and cannot get an interest bearing account in Thailand... TE sent me an email stating that with TE membership, you are able to get the interest at Bangkok Bank smile.png not big but something wink.png

    Currently 0.50% vs 0.00% tongue.png

    http://www.bangkokbank.com/BangkokBank/WebServices/Rates/Pages/DepositRates.aspx

I think the only bank that does not pay interest on accounts opened by foreigners is Krung Thai bank.

All the others have been doing it for years.

Thanks Ubonjoe... I see where my thoughts were flawed... I have never had a work permit in Thailand and maybe be why Bangkok Bank did not give me a Interest Account before. OR like many things here, rules are interpretedblink.png and I need to go fix it asap wink.pngfacepalm.gif

I believe they classify all non-thai as non-residents by default because is fits same as the column but wording is used wrong... Now reading it about 5 times... If you are Just visiting, you are a non-resident... if you are living here = resident... but terms are getting crossed surely... So argh....saai.gif.pagespeed.ce.f25DL0fHCdW09GY8hG

Transactions are recorded in accordance with Bank of Thailand regulations. Please note, this account is not appropriate for daily use as all transactions are manual and can only be made at the Head Office branch on Silom Road, Bangkok." == sure they mistook my status at the branch that is not Head Office 1zgarz5.gif.pagespeed.ce.GJfs_tQOQ-LbP_e

  10. Are you sure they were not advising you to obtain a card size copy of your passport/entry stamp? That is normal advise to avoid carry of passport in home city. Or just make a copy and fold up and put in wallet. Just be sure to have passport available within a reasonable time if required.

    No...

He said $50 and get a Passportcard.....

    ???

That would serve as a ID but would not replace your passport if asked for.

I considered getting one when I renewed my passport last year. Two for one price adding $30 to cost of passport alone.

I was wondering if it would be the same number as the passport but never found an answer.

    Good morning... coffee1.gif

I may have found your answer.... The Numbers are different and likely do not correlate. Maybe not good to use for ID while in Thailand other than First/Last name...

    Passport Card: 8 Digit starting with "C" - C12345678

    Passport Book: 9 Digit number - 123456789

    No...

He said $50 and get a Passportcard.....

    ???

I agree the passport card will not work... You need a regular passport... A ways ago I thought to do the same and ease of carry, but you are correct, no place for visa and stamps... Best advice also to make a photo copy of your Main/Visa/Entry Stamp in a normal passport to carry around daily while in Thailand... Many go to a photo shop and have it made into a small laminated card for about 100b--YMMV... This way you can keep your real passport locked up and protected but readily available is required to show to authorities upon request.

    http://travel.state.gov/content/passports/english/passports/information/card.html

"The U.S. Passport Card can be used to enter the United States from Canada, Mexico, the Caribbean, and Bermuda at land border crossings or sea ports-of-entry and is more convenient and less expensive than a passport book. The passport card cannot be used for international travel by air."

    --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Many have been confused on VISA & Entry/Permit Stamp... I was one of them for a long time until this year facepalm.gif They work hand-in-hand but are two different animals... Here is a simple way to remember:

-A VISA is like a Keycard to a door allowing you access to a House(Thailand). When the VISA expires your Keycard will no longer work--you will be denied access until you get a new one. A VISA only allows Entry into Thailand by passing through Immigration by Land/Air...

-Entry/Permit stamp is how long you are authorized to Stay in the House(Thailand). This stamp in your passport dictates when you are required to leave Thailand. You can "Extend" this by different means but the stamp is your "Permission to Stay" timeline...

I hope this helps the OP...wai2.gif

  12. If your passport is damaged or expired, can pages be transferred (ie Visa Page) to the new passport by our Embassy? I know mine charges ~2,500b to add blank pages... but never thought about if they can add why not transfer... Possible?

    That is not possible.

I really guess that is why Passports are considered GOLD in these parts as it's very difficult to clean up staying without a lot of expense/flying/time... Really fortifies keeping a copy on me all times vs carrying... Thank you...wai2.gif

  13. <script type='text/javascript'>window.mod_pagespeed_start = Number(new Date());</script>

In that case you would carry both Passports when traveling.

If you have a multiple entry visa issued by an embassy or consulate your visa is lost when you loose your passport. All immigration can do is reinstate your last entry/permit to stay stamp to your new passport.

If you had a OA visa you could get a re-entry permit form immigration to keep your current permit to stay valid if you wanted to travel. You do not have to get multiple re-entry permit (3800 baht) unless you plan on making several entries during that period. You could get a single re-entry permit (1000 baht).

    Morning Ubonjoe,coffee1.gif.pagespeed.ce.Ymlsr09gMJARfU4 alt=coffee1.gif width=32 height=24>

Would this apply to other reasons like expired/damaged/new passport(no more pages in old) as well?

Seems if the prior visa use date is great than the Entry/Permit Stamp, it kind of sucks... alt=facepalm.gif>

If you still have your old passport then your visa will remain valid in it and can be used by showing both passports on entry to the country. If the photo page and visa was still legible you could use a damaged passport also.

Great, thank you both... Makes perfect sense...

Moral is don't lose your passport... crying.gif.pagespeed.ce.kh9vLpJQkUs49400

    Example: (does this jive)

Lost Passport > New Passport... go to Thai Immigration:

Double or Triple 60 day Tourist (Becomes) Single Entry/Permit Stay Date Stamp based on Arrival Date

1 year/6 month Education (Becomes) 90 day Entry/Permit Stay Date Stamp based on Arrival Date

Business not activated to 1 year (Becomes) 90 day Entry/Permit Stay Date Stamp based on Arrival Date

PE (Becomes) 1 year Entry/Permit Stay Date Stamp based on Arrival Date

Because Immigration will not make a VISA for your new Passport... Only Entry/Permit STAMP based on above...

  14. If you have a multiple entry visa issued by an embassy or consulate your visa is lost when you loose your passport. All immigration can do is reinstate your last entry/permit to stay stamp to your new passport.

  15. If I understand this correctly, there is no such thing as "Transfer" of your visa to a new Passport be it lost/expired/damaged?

The only thing Immigration will do in the new passport is a "Single" entry based on your last Permission to Stay Date Stamp? (Based on the computer entry when you pass through Immigration last)

If you hold a Visa greater than the duration of the Permission to Stay Date Stamp (> 90 day or > 1 year), what would be the best practice to re-issuing the Visa if possible???blink.png

  16. Everywhere in Asia, if a student fails in a public school, the student is to blame. If a student fails in a private school, the teacher is to blame.

Demanding ethical standards and psychology is a yellow issue, heralding a brain wash curriculum that alienates students from critical thinking and independent thought. Note that Ubon Ratchatani Rajabhat University, Khon Khen University, and especially Thamassart (where the 1970's rebellion and killing fields originated), were NOT invited. Then they made the hand picked muppets into color coded teams, so no one university could be a lightning rod for criticism.

Students talking about education reform? A good idea, if a representational cross section of students had been invited, which they were not. A few good ideas, and some very bad ideas wrapped up in the tissue paper gathered from the imaginary moral high ground suggesting that brain washing is an avenue to academic advancement.

    Straight from Trotsky.

Notice not one governmental reform idea, not one re-conciliatory issue, and not one charter recommendation from the bunch. I believe the forum was very restricted in what areas they could comment upon. Not a single comment about making education more accessible to the poor. Not one comment about students accountability through exit examinations (that would have been a real test of students' ethics). And not one comment that is even remotely relevant to a Constitution.

They picked their parrots well. I hope they gave them some tasty biscuits.

Honesty from what I've seen, the school system, students are set to fail in knowledge and life. Most schools are ran by the students not the teachers... Some teachers are motivated to teach and inspire the students often if not always pushed down and controlled by the students and parents through the school bosses...

Accountability and Duty to empower the teachers to teach and hold students to a standard has deteriorated to such a point that there is no surprise why many problems in their society today. A cascading effect spiraling down every day it continues.

Example of this typical type of student: post-4641-1156694572.gif.pagespeed.ce.33

"My teacher is too strict and failing me because I cannot pass the exam after the 5th time taking it when I want because I cannot study or try to learn. It must be the teachers fault because I am so bored from school and rather hang out with friends and play games. So, I tell the Boss of Teacher about not nice to me and cannot teach me....so.... the teacher is forced to give me a passing grade or help me cheat the exam... Hmm if that doesn't work (90% works), I will tell my parents the same "teacher too strict and not teach me well"... Then my parents will complain to the Boss of Teacher and will surely pass... In the end, I learn nothing and more about manipulating the system using the "know someone" tactic and learn absolutely nothing that can surely pass on to adulthood...

This type of example is very typical and tattooed into their education system... A lot of teachers are like employees of the students because they scare the students will complain to their Boss(es). I've seen this tactic and action first hand with Thai and Western Teachers... Students have the power in the Thai System for Education... There is not quick fix but time, effort, and real reform...

  17. I've brought this one up before but it seems to be lingering onward...

I went to CW to activate my new Visa this week... Before going to CW I noticed no Departure Card in my passport, nor any staple/hole on my entry stamp page... I searched high and low but after my 25+ hour flight, I may have not noticed it not being attached to my passport in October... This is the only conclusion based my paper-pack-rat style...

CW quizzed me a little and I said no idea where it is... After a bit, they activated my Visa and gave me a new 1 year Entry Stamp. However, they put the serial # of the MIA Departure Card under my old Entry Stamp(Oct).

They did not give me a new departure card. Will this continue to be a problem until I exit / enter the Kingdom again and have a new one issued? I read on the Immigration Bureau site it is required for 90 day reports...wai2.gif

  18. Please help me with this one... I just received my new Visa with a fresh 1 entry stamp @ CW this week. They quiz me a bit on my missing departure card. They wrote in the serial # on my previous entry into the Kingdom stating I should not have a problem when exiting for travel.

1st they said I will still need to report before 5 January 2015 (90 day mark in Kingdom).facepalm.gif

Then they checked again and came back stating report 90 days from this week with a little card in my passport stating same.blink.png

Did they do something in the computer to reset my 90 day report clock? I am a bit confused at this point.

I don't want non-compliance and problems in the future... Please advise...wai2.gif

For 90 day reports "I'm a Nub for this one", @ CW is there a VIP desk for PE? Is there other places in Bangkok to Report 90 day? Best way....

    Thank you...

I will tell you my experience with the PE visa. When I collected mine end of July they put a piece of paper in my passport stating my 90 was due end of October. I asked that I had already been in Thailand 2 months so should be due end of August but they told me the 1 year stamp I got at CW with my PE visa resets this. I did my 90 day end of October no problems even though I had been in the country 5 months by that time. I hope this answers you question.

It does, thank you... I've always been a leave before 90 days guy before... be it a border run or travel...

  19. Please help me with this one... I just received my new Visa with a fresh 1 entry stamp @ CW this week. They quizzed me a bit on my missing departure card. Then they wrote the serial # of the card on my previous entry into the Kingdom stating I should not have a problem when exiting for travel. It is in the computer system ;)
