I saw this young boy laying down on the road, covered with a white blanket yesterday.

The road was one of those Phuket town roads, which are almost always congested and therefore quite slow moving. 

We are supposed to live in a 'paradise island'. Why is everybody in such an hurry constantly?

Only using English as I think it's better to have one common language instead of mixture of multiple languages.

The apologist would say...Scams? What Scams? We have no Scams...just disgruntled old fat tourists making Thailand look bad...

Shouldn't this 9 year old performance behind the steering wheel be a hint for the not so great drivers out there, that driving a car is a child's play.

If I recall it correctly, 90% of drivers think that their driving skills are above the average. In reality it does not really take too much thought to drive a car.

Any learning curve with Linux? No problem installing those browsers on it?

At normal office user level, not really. In fact installing applications, like browsers is probably easier process, compared to Windows or Mac. You have an Application central, where you find, search and install the applications which you wish to use. The same system takes care of the security of the applications - automatically.

You'll start noticing the differences when you get deeper to the system core, but that's the same when comparing Windows to the Mac.

Internet bangking is most likely more secure with Linux. The softwares you have installed, are automatically updated to the most secure or most resent versions (you can actually say if you wish to have only the security updates or updates in general). Unlike other systems, updates are often done in the background so that it does not bug the users who wishes to get his work done.

There are very little malware on Linux systems. When you install new applications, those are coming from well known sources, which are monitored constantly, not from some unknown websites. All the software updates are also coming from the same sources.

You could use Linux Ubuntu/Kubuntu as an operating system as those are free and do security updates automatically.

The basic usage is pretty much same experience as it is with Windows machines.

For browser use something which get regular security upgrades. Chrome, Chromium or Firefox.

How can I give my phone number to these telemarketers? Prepaid cards cost next to nothing and trying various responses to the telemarketers calls sounds like great fun.

FWIW I bought a cheap (2500baht tops) one online from dealextreme.com - it's the same size as a parrot AR drone and can carry a small camera (40 quid from amazon) - Reason I went so cheap was that in the past I used to fly helicopters - which proved to be an extremely expensive hobby - ending in several thousand dollars of spares, late nights and carbon everywhere I decided to make the cost of my new craters a little lower.

HOWEVER - drones are extremely stable and easy to fly - not even crashed mine yet... great hobby.
