  1. In many places in the USA, you pay 2-3% of the value of the property you own to something called 'property tax'. So depending on where you live, if you own a $1,000,000 home or condo, you would expect to pay $20,000-$30,000 a year to this specific tax. We also have income taxes which for people making over $250,000 is in the 30% range and we also have state taxes. And then when we buy stuff in stores we have a sales tax, the equivalent of VAT.

I noticed that many farang on this forum are quite distraught about the living conditions and opportunities of rural wife's families. The main conclusion to why these people are doing so poorly is that the rich have a monopoly on wealth, government and corruption and are denying the Isaan and other poor rural peoples an equal opportunity to succeed in life.

That is why I propose that the Thai government should drastically increase taxes across the board, following the United States and Europe's lead. This money should then be used for social programs to help the poor people.

Are you with me on this?

  2. Everytime I wanted to use a mototaxi they would quote an absurd price like 60B for what would probably be 20B in Bangkok. I tried to negotiate and spoke a little bit of Thai, would then walk away go to 7-11 and come back and it was the same story. No choice but to pay triple or walk over and over again, but perhaps you are a better negotiater then me.

On the mainroad, there are alot of buses, pick ups going by though.

  3. What is the deal with these Thais who own shop houses worth 40 million baht+, yet only have a tiny little business downstairs selling food or newspapers?

Why dont they sell the house, and buy in a cheaper nicer area, and use the positive cash flow to create another business or invest in the financial markets? From the looks of them, you get the impression that they are not hanging out in The Emporium. I imagine that they do not sell their home because its been in their family, etc. So their children do not go to University because they have a business selling newspapers, etc.

Very bad money management, no wonder there are such drastic differences between rich and poor in Thailand. A very small minority of the people understand money and business.

"We dont use banks, we just buy gold necklaces and pawn them a month later losing 1/2 the value"

  4. This story and these responses are completely absurd.

How can a 56 year old man knocks up and decides to marry a girl who is 20 years old and expect her to be 100% faithful? :o

He has had a jolly good time living his life, and now he wants to settle down. He has money, she wants money. That is the basis of their relationship.

Of course she is going to have this boyfriend and that boy friend on the side. What the hel_l does he expect? Did he think that she really loves him because she called him "handsum man"?

    Here is a clue guy:

Next time dont buy her a house and car in her name leaving with little or no recourse.

I pity him, but then again, you reap what you sow.

Lets try to see through our gigantice egos in the land of "handsum man" and take our heads out of our asses.

  5. It seems very unlikely that this crime was random.

First off all, he was driving on his moto when they told him to stop? <deleted>? Did they pull up next to him like in Mission Impossible III?

If he sped off, wouldnt his girl friend have fallen off the bike, gotten injuried?

Where is their motive to shoot him in the head with the intention of killing him?

The chances of this being random seem very unlikely. Pattaya may be a dangerous place, but it isnt that dangerous. All of these stories you read involve someone being killed by people they knew, so why expect this one is any different?

  6. If a farang makes almost 200,000 baht a month and I only make 5,00 baht a month why should I feel guilty about over charging him? The amount of money I over charge for him isnt going to make him cry or ruin his life?

You can come up with all the rationalizations you want, or you can just stop being hypocrites and admit what you are doing is stealing.

  7. More faulty logic and self delusion.

Again, they did not force you to buy their DVDs. If you feel they are over priced and CHOOSE to buy them, then that was your choice.

You DO NOT have the right to STEAL because you feel something is over priced.

    You make me sick.

  8. Its amazing how many of the people on here hate the idea of being short changed in a bar, yet have no problem purchasing copyrighted material on the street.

The reason why is it so cheap, is because its stealing.

So why do you do it? Or rather, why do you get made when someone steals your wallet or overcharges you?

    Hypocrites!

  9. one of my neighbors is nigerian. i saw him bring a live pig into his flat with a few friends. what followed i am pretty sure was some sort of animal sacrifice/african voodo. i could hear them murdering the poor thing.

my gf also told me that some of these guys are here to try and take over the souls of thais for the afterlife. there was an article on this type of practice. it has to do with buddhism. khmers are also voodooists.
